Artificial Insemination
The impregnation of a woman by one of several possible artificial reproductive technologies, commonly known as ARTs.
Question: Artificial Insemination? I'm 34 and planning to get pregnant through artificial insemination. I'm currently researching sperm banks and am wondering if any women here have used one. I would appreciate knowing what banks you liked/didn't like and why. Also, how long did it take you to conceive? Thanks!
Answer: You will have more success with this by learning your personal ovulation pattern. Information on the sites below on how to locate your 8 days of fertility. Best, G
Question: Artificial insemination? I am going today for an attempt at artificial insemination. What should I expect (except to hopefully become pregnant). Is it painful? Will I be told to take it easy the remainder of the day/week? If there is anyone who has had this done, what are my chances the first attempt at it?
Answer: Not painfull at all, I tried a couple of them but unfortunately didn't work...You will be asked to drink lots of fluids so your bladder will be full and push the uterus down a bit, then they will pump the Siemens inside you and you'll be asked to lay down for 15 min, then you can go diving if you want..!!Best of luck sweetie:)
Question: artificial insemination? I was wondering if anyone out there has tried to do the procedure artificial insemination themselves. I'm going to try it. It has been 21/2 years ttc and a husband tat has had a reversal. No problems with me and okay numbers for my husband. I wanted to try this before we go start paying for advice.
Thanks for anyone's suggestions.
Answer: You're wasting your time. You won't get a better result with artificial insemination than you would by having sex. Him ejaculating in you is the same as you putting the sperm in there turkey-baster method, and its a lot more fun getting the sperm there with sex than with a syringe.
Question: How does the artificial insemination process work because I am so ignorant of this process because I thought? that when the man puts his sperm in a bottle, that that bottle is then manually inserted into the woman. please don't laugh because i'm not trying to be silly but honestly i am so unfamiliar about this process, and i've always heard of artificial insemination.
Answer: The man is asked to collect a sperm sample, which is then washed. The sperm wash separates the sperm from the semenal fluid and basically creates a concentrated sample of sperm and increases the motility. The doctor's office will then also run a sperm analysis so they can tell you the sperm count and morphology and motility rates.
The woman will then get the insemination, where she lays on an exam table. A speculum is used and a catheter is inserted into her cervix. A medical professional, most likely a nurse who specializes in doing inseminations, will then insert the sperm sample with a syringe. The procedure feels similar to a pap smear and isn't painful, and it only takes a few minutes. Many doctor's offices will then ask the woman to remain laying down for 15-20 minutes after the insemination. After that, the woman can return to normal activities. Good luck!
Question: How do we start the artificial insemination process through a sperm donor? My boyfriend is sterile and we would like to try to have a baby through artificial insemination by a sperm donor. I know some of the costs but I just don't know where to start.
What should we do first?
Answer: I won't mention 'talk to your doctor' because everyone else has covered that well. But just as important - research your medical insurance. I conceived my children through artificial insemination and everything was covered by my medical insurance except buying the sperm (and those related costs). So in addition to checking with your doctor, which is the first step, check with your insurance to see what is covered. Good luck!
Question: What are the requirements for artificial insemination? (artificial insemination is also called IUI) I'm wondering how old you have to be? How much does it cost? What can I expect from the treatment? Thanks a bunch!
Answer: You have to be of legal consenting age. At the clinic i work at, we require (because the state requires this) that you and your partner be tested for infectious diseases (i.e. hep b & c, syphillis, chlamydia, ghonarrhia, HIV, bacteria...) before an IUI can be performed.
As far as treatment goes, after you are tested and possibly treated for infectious disease, you will monitor your cycle until you have your "surge" of ovulation hormone (also known as lutenizing hormone or LH). your surge indicates LH has increased to the point to make you ovulate about 24 hours later. You have your IUI on the day of ovulation, using a sterile plastic catheter. The sperm would be collected from your partner and washed to remove all the dead and abnormal shaped sperm a couple of hours before your IUI, or if you are using donor sperm, the sperm is thawed and prepped. You take a pregnancy test 14 days after your IUI to see if it is successful.
even IUI isn't perfectly successful every time.
Question: What information should I know about artificial insemination before my partner and I explore options? My partner and I are thinking of starting a family in the next few years, and we will be using artificial insemination. What information should I know? How much will it cost? How successful is it? What are the risks? ANY information would be greatly appreciate.
Answer: All of your questions can be answered at http://www.artificial-insemination-for-l… the site is written by a women who is currently undergoing artificial insemination.
Question: How long after artificial insemination do you cramp? I had TDI (artificial insemination) done four days ago and I still feel slight cramping in my abdomen. I think its a good sign seeing as though the doctor says cramping only lasts two days. Just anxious to know is it something there or is it from the actual procedure?
Therapeutic Donor Insemination (TDI)
Answer: ive never heard of TDI
artificial insemination is IVF.
it could be both but their def. could be something there[the egg must of stuck!]. =]
keep me posted! good luck and baby dust!
Question: Can you use artificial insemination to choose the sex of a child? My wife wants to get pregnant with a girl, but the majority of my sperm are male. (I think 65%) I remember I once went to a sperm bank to make money donating sperm, and they told me most of my sperm are male. Anyway is it possible to use the same process as artificial insemination to choose the sex of the baby?
Answer: The ONLY way to guarantee the gender is to do IVF with gender selection. Anything else is a roll of the dice.
Good luck.
Question: How can I convince my hubby for Artificial insemination? I tried clomid for 2 months. I have had 3 folicles eachtime but no luck.
No the doc is now sugesting artificial insemination but my hubby does not want to do it.
How can I convince him to do AI? I really want to get pregnant.
Answer: My "Hubby" thought I had to have sex with another guy...make sure he knows that in to how it happens. Ask him why he is against it and make sure you consider his feelings along with him considering yours.
p.s. i use the word hubby!
Question: How do you get started with the Artificial Insemination process? I'm a 18 year old single teen and I want to have a baby. I DO NOT want a boyfriend! With Artificial Insemination is there a change you may get pregnant with twins or more?
Answer: OK so I shouldn't be telling you this but you can buy sterile cheap artificial insemination kits off e bay and other sites ect then you just need to find a sperm donor with this I would get the donor to have a sti and HIV check all that sort of thing . Then it can be done in the comfort of your own home don't let other people tell you your too young its your decision the risk is yours too take .
Question: What do you think of Single Women having artificial insemination? I am in a relationship, but the person I'm with doesn't want to have kids for another year or two. I have always had that mother instinct, and always wanted to have a child. I have been doing research on artificial insemination, and alot of single women are doing this because their partners don't want kids, or they are ready while their partners aren't, or also of infertility. I just wanted to get some opinions from others about this.
Answer: OMG I could have written this exact question in 2007.
I think it is perfectly fine for a single woman to do this, as long as she has a plan. And a plan B.
I was in a relationship with a guy who admitted to me that he didn't want to do the "house and kids thing". I respected that honesty, and so we became just friends.
I had a strong desire for children at age 30, so I called a fertility center and they helped me get pregnant with twins from an anonymous donor from a sperm bank. Due in September 2010. :) Although I didn't have any fertility issues, it is safer and easier to go through a fertility center. At least let them point you in the right direction.
Before you do this, make sure the commitment part of your relationship is over. These kids will be YOURS, not your partner's.
I have no regrets about it.
Questions: Are you staying this current relationship? If so, your partner needs to be informed about this. You cannot get pregnant by anonymous sperm and try to force parenthood on your partner.
Also, how old are you? If you are younger than like 27, then wait and see where your life takes you.
Why doesn't your partner want kids for a year or two? Is he/she finishing up college or something? If so, this is a valid reason to wait. On the other hand, If they are a bum who doesn't want responsibility, then forget them.
Question: How do you feel about artificial insemination? I am my husbands second wife. While he was with his first wife he got a vasectomy, so he's unable to have biological children. I've always planned on having kids though so we're looking at our options now. i've thought about adoption and that could be a future possibility, but I'd also really like to have the experience of carrying and delivering a baby. So i'm thinking seriously about artificial insemination and wondering if anyone knows anything about it and how you feel towards it?
my husband is completely open to the idea
Answer: Why don't you look into a reversal I had a lady that I worked with her husband had one cause they had decided they didn't want kids at all well one day she woke up and was like I think I really want one and he had his reversed and they were able to have one son...because of scar tissue they couldn't conceive again...but look into all your options...
Question: What do you think about artificial insemination? Im 23 and not currently dating but ive been thinking about having a baby in a few years. Im not ready for one just now but in the near future i would like to have a baby. Since im not dating i was thinking about artificial insemination. What are your guys opioions on it? does it work? how much does it cost? Right now i live at home with my parents and my mom keeps bugging me about when will she be a grandmother. i dont know what to do. i have experience with my friends babys and i find i really enjoy them.
Answer: My mother used to bug me about when she'd get some grand kids, and I used to say "I can get you a grandchild, but wouldn't you prefer I was married first?" ha ha.
I think AI is expensive. Up to $16,000 is what my friend was told. I'd tell your mom (and you) to relax about it. Take some time to enjoy life. You have the rest of your life to be a mom and be tied down to somebody else. Now is your time to figure out who (and what) you want to be when you grow up. Too many kids these days don't have fathers, so take your time and find the right man, before you worry about having a baby.
Question: When ARTIFICIAL INSEMINATION happens, can the baby be born with genes from 3 DIFFERENT people? I know for women that can't have babies there's always the option of having an artificial insemination. When the sperm and the egg are artificially joined together to be put on a woman's uterus can the genes of third person be added to the insemination? Will the baby have at least any if not a lot of the third person's genes??
Answer: No, because one egg is fertilized by one sperm. The egg and the sperm are the gene donors. Therefore where the third man is involved, he would not donate any genes.
Question: Opinions on single women using artificial insemination to have children? I'm currently planning a pregnancy through artificial insemination and I've noticed some people seem to have a real problem with this. I'm curious about people's opinions on artificial insemination and single women using this procedure to become mother. What do you think about it?
- Not looking for anyone to change my mind or anything, just help me understand why some people seem bothered by the idea. Thanks for the opinions-
Answer: take some advice from someone that has been there done that. Go For It . it is the best thing you will ever do. I don't care what people think. I actually had a lot of support and people who found out down the track (mine are 9.5 yrs now) were in support. Many said they would have done it if they had been single much longer. No one has given me any nasty comments (at least not to my face lol) and honestly I don't care if people don't agree. I just kissed my twins goodnight and was told " I love you forever and ever and ever to the end of the universe and back and for infinity infinities" I also get told regularly "your the best mum ever". I can tell you it is those times that anyone elses bad opinions will be wiped from your mind. Good Luck.
My kids I should say are well adjusted and very loved. My son has male role models in life through his activities he does and his grandfather. Yes they are missing part of their heritage, and yes they have siblings out there that we don't know of. But when the time comes that they want to search for that 1/2 I will be right there supporting them
Question: What do you think of a virgin having a baby through artificial insemination? I'm a 35 year old professional woman with a Master's degree. I always planned to get married and for my own reasons chose not to have sex until then but now I'm not really interested in marriage anymore but I do want a child. I'm considering having a baby through artificial insemination. Although I will make my own decision, I'm curious what others might think of my choice.
Answer: If you feel emotionally/financially/physically ready to have a child you should. Your sexual history has nothing to do with it.
You might be surprised to know that there are other people who face a similar situation. For cultural/personal/religious reasons people do put off sex until marriage but sometimes Mr. Right does not come along in time..and the infamous biological clock starts becoming more threatening. So your dilemma is understandable.
If you have concerns, discuss them with your Ob/Gyn. Other wise good luck to you...and please don't give up on marriage..you might meet someone when you are least expecting it!
Question: Why do some people get upset about single women having babies through artificial insemination? I've noticed that some people get all upset about single women having babies through artificial insemination. Why is that?
Answer: i worry about all that because firstly, the child will not have a father, and secondly, does the woman have the financial means to support the child?
if she has the money, fair enough - i think i would have a baby in that circumstance too. i grew up without a father, and i would cry, but mainly because i actually DID have one and he was an a**hole to me...
if the household where i was had money, i think my life would have been good.
so in short.. i have mixed feelings. just make sure you can give it what it needs if you have one, hon!
Question: What are the advantages and disadvantages of artificial insemination? Would it be better to have artificial insemination rather than just doing it the normal way(sex)? And any other things about the topic.
By better I meant which would more likely get you impregnated and more likely have less problems.
Answer: My Husband and I TTC for over 3 years the natural way with no luck. Our first try at IUI worked and I'm now 21weeks pregnant. So for us IUI meant we had the baby we longed for and couldn't get without treatment.
The benefit of IUI is that the best sperm is placed in the best place. The sperm is treated the dead and abnormal ones are cleared away and it is then placed directly in the womb. With normal intercourse alot of the sperm doesn't make it as far because of all the obstacles it has to pass.
The fact that our baby was conceived by IUI would make us no more likely or unlikely to encounter problems. It is a small procedure and once it's done the body does the rest as it would normally.
Question: Have any single women here had a baby through artificial insemination? I'm currently planning a pregnancy through artificial insemination, using donor sperm. I am single but have a close support system of friends who are willing to help out.
I wondering what your experiences were with the insemination process. Thanks!
I mention that I'm single because the experience is different for a single woman versus a couple. I'm interested in other single mothers' experiences.
Answer: I'm sorry I haven't, I wish I could help you. I just wanted to say the first two people are ignorant and need to find something better to do with their life. I know it must be tough doing what you are doing, congrats and good luck!
