The condition or fact of being the child of a particular parent, as in the judicial determination of the maternity or paternity of a child.

Question: For any family lawyers out there with experience in child support cases. What is a "Notice of Filiation"? I've recently filed, he didn't show up to court, so they ruled anyway because paternity had been established and he made no effort to cooperate with financial info. I have sole legal and physical custody, with an order for child support. He's never seen her (his choice) and she's 16 mos, I would let him. Is this something he did, or just what automatically happens?

Answer: This is a notice that paternity has been established and that now a legal relationship exists between a child and a parent.
