Identified Adoptions
In this type of adoption, the birth mother has selected the family that she wishes to adopt her child. This may have been accomplished by the birth mother reviewing information about only a few couples, or many couples. The birth mother may or may not actually meet the adoptive parents that she identifies as the parents to adopt her child.
Question: Are there grants available for Identified adoptions? My wife and I are in the early processes of Adopting a child. Obviously we've never done this before and are turning to the Yahoo community for insight.
I've heard the term Identified adoption used to describe what we are in the process of doing so if that is wrong, please let me know.
Does anyone know of organizations that offer financial assistance for adoptions?
Thanks!
Answer: The abba fund!
The young woman...and your family are in my prayers.
Question: I need help starting an identified adoption.? I am in a very strange situation. My best friend of 6 years is 21 years old and has two children by 2 different men she is now 8 months pregnant with her third child (by another man). Since she found out she was pregnant she knew she didn't want the baby she was going to have an abortion but she didn't. She is a very strange person she does everything backward and just weird.
So about a month ago we decided that the best thing would be for me to adopt the baby. And honestly it is the best thing she has $250 a month that she lives on she has no job and she is in college. I pretty much have myself together. I have two jobs I do live with my parents but I was planning on moving out next month anyway. Since the day I have found out that I was hopefully going to be able to adopt this baby I have been in baby mode. I've been stocking up on diapers and formula and this child had enough clothes to last him until he is 2.
I know I am young and that's probably what your mostly thinking about but Im ready I have been dreaming of the day I can have my own child since I was a little girl. My entire adult life I've been dreaming of this I've had baby magazine sent to me since I was 16. I understand that when I have a child my life will change and everything will be about him. I understand so I'm really not hoping to get people saying im too young and im not ready because I believe that is my choice.
So what I really got on here to ask advice on is how to start an identified adoption. I want to know exactly what I have to do where do I start? lawyer? Adoption agency?
Please help me as soon as you can Kemper is due on December 5th I don't have long.
She is with the daddy he wanted her to have the abortion he is totally on board and he wants me to have the child. And says he will do anything he can to help us with this.
Her oldest is 3 years old and I have been helping raise her 2 children since the day they were both born, since the delivery room. I cut both of their umbilical cords :D
Answer: Do you have the money to pay for an adoption? You need a home study that costs $700-$2,000 depending on your state. You will need an agency for this part. Expect attorney costs of at least $2,500. Agency for the home study is first and you are really out of time for that. You can probably find somone to do an expiditied one but expect to pay at least $300 more. Contact attornies for both you and her right away as well. They need to get started ASAP. You will have 2-3 post placement visits at a few hundred a piece as well.
Question: How do you personally parent your adopted child differently? I know a mom is a mom, but I have come to the belief that there are many things I have to do differently for the sake of my children when parenting my adopted children. I was wondering if anyone else would care to share:
What are some of the differences that you, as adoptive parents see when parenting a child not biologically born of you?
What are some of the differences that adult adoptees would like to see (or saw growing up) out of their adoptive parents?
please also identify if the adoption was with older children or infant and if there are racial differences between you and your child.
Merci!
Answer: If the books "Lost and Found", "Primal Wound" and "Twenty Things Adoptive Children Wished Their Adoptive Parents Knew" would have been available when I was a child, I think I would have been a more emotionally secure individual.
I was born in 1965, so child psychology was in it's infancy, and studies/research on the psychological effects adoption had on children were just starting to come to light, so I cannot "blame" my parents for how they raised me.
I think MOST a p's know the effects adoption can have on kids, and play an active role in helping them come to tersm with it. For that, I am extremely happy.
I was adopted as an infant. My parents were the same race, but were a different ethnic background. They did not know my background, either.
I think the most important thing is to recognize their loss. Let them know it's ok to be sad and to miss their first family...no matter what the circumstances were surrounding their relinquishment/adoption.
If they show an aptitude for something like athletics, or music, art, etc, acknowledge it. There's nothing wrong with saying, "Hey- you're really good at drawing, I wonder if other people in your first family are good at that too?" That really helps, esp is their a p's have no artistic ability at all.
I do think there's a fine line with this, though. I have seen where ap's go waaaay overboard with this. "Oh, you like peanuts, I bet your f dad liked peanuts, too." It may just be because the kid likes peanuts, lol. I dont think ap's should constantly bring it up, but they should at times acknowledge that their child is different.
Never use the "you're a chosen child" line. I think regulars here know how insulting that is to a child, and for the most part do not use it, but for newbies who may be reading...we were NOT chosen. We were the next child on the list. To say we were "chosen" by our a families implies that we were "unchosen" by our first families.
Never use the term "destiny" with adoption. "You were destined to be our child.." Our destinies were screwed the day we were born. Adoptees do not like the destiny word, because for many of us, our "destiny" is now full of pain.
Dont feel bad when we decide to search. Finding our first family has NOTHING to do with our love for our a parents. It has to do with us.
Question: Do I need to identify the birth father to go through with an adoption? I'm 20 weeks pregnant with a child conceived from rape and I'm considering adoption as a possible alternative to raising this child. I didn't report the rape because I didn't want the added stress, along with being pregnant. Do I need to let the father know I'm pregnant and that I intend on giving the child up for adoption in order to process an adoption? What are my options in this situation?
Answer: "Do I need to let the father know I'm pregnant and that I intend on giving the child up for adoption in order to process an adoption?"
You dont "need" too let him know anything. I'm only suggesting that because you were raped. Although I believe in father rights just as much as anyone else, in a situation like this I can see how much power he can or could have over you and the child just by knowing.
If you do tell him then he must give consent as the courts will believe he in the father. Depending on which country and state your from the following may give some insight to what is seen as a legal parent.
• A person whose name is on the child’s birth certificate
• A man who was cohabitating with the mother at the time of the birth
• A man who had been cohabitating with the mother at the time of conception
• A man named in a Family Court Order as the father
• A man sworn to be the father in a statutory declaration
• A man whose paternity has been proved by medical testing.
if you are serious about putting this child up for adoption then look into Dispensation of Consent.
Question: how do i go about getting my adoption records open? I am trying to find my birth parents/siblings. I dont know how to go about getting identifying information to find them. It was a closed adoption in the state of ohio.

Question: Did anyone have a dream that perhaps helped identify their babies gender? A few weeks ago I dreamt I had a baby girl, but in my dream she wasn't mine. It seemed as though I had given her to another member of my family. (At the time I was considering adoption)
Then last night I dreamt I was having a miscarrige.
Right now I'm about 4.5 months preggo. I haven't checked the gender yet. I'm just wondering did any one else have dreams like these?
Did anyone else have a dream that identified the baby gender?
Answer: I've dreamed about a baby boy... I have dreamed about twins... But last night I dreamed I was shopping for baby girl shoes.. I think it's a girl.. I can't wait to find out.
Question: Where can I buy a universal microchip scanner? Our FL rescue group microchips all dogs before their adoptions, but we need another UNIVERSAL microchip SCANNER to identify found & sheltered dogs so they can be returned home or don't get chipped again. The scanner must be able to read AVID and HOME AGAIN microchips.
Answer: here you go> http://www.digitalangelcorp.com/dac_pets…
Question: Our 3 week old rescue (unidentified breed) is 2.4 pounds, how big will she get? She weighed .8 pounds the day we found her (apparently at 2 days old), weighed 1.4 pounds a week later and now is at 2.4 pounds. We've never rescued a newborn and we want to start identifying possible adoption candidates, could adult weight be estimated at this age with no breed info? Thanks.
I posted the weights to see if they might resemble the growth rate of any particular breed. It is obviously not necessary for you to answer this question if your answers is "I don't know".
Answer: Actually, the 'rule' is doubling the weight at 12 weeks, not 4 - 5 months, and that's a very rough estimate. You've got another 5 weeks before she's old enough to be placed, so you'll be able to tell better when the time comes. Read up on early socialization of puppies. Singletons tend to become aggressive as adults, and proper socialization at this stage is crucial. Good luck
Question: Are you a member to more than one side of adoption? For example, are you an adoptee and also a natural parent? Or are you an adoptive parent and also a social worker or other adoption agency rep.? (Any combination.)
If so, with which side do you most closely identify? Has it changed over time? Do you ever feel conflicts about that? Thank you.
Answer: I am an adoptee as well as a natural parent. I identify most with the adoptee side of my life but I am far more emotional towards the nmom side. I have had 30 years to digest being adopted but only 10 to come to terms with the pain I have felt and caused as a relinquishing mother.
My adad is also an ndad. He said that until his reunion with his daughter he didn't think about it much but now he thinks far more about being a relinquishing father than an adopter.
Question: Should gay & Lesbians be able to adopt in every state in the USA? There are 129,000 children available for adoption in the USA. Most will be released into society by an overwhelmed foster care system without ever having known the love of any parent at all. The Christian right wing doesn't want gays to adopt for religious reasons. There are 5 Million people in the USA who identify as Right Wing Religious people. They are not adopting these kids. Somebody has to help these kids. Florida doesn't allow gays to adopt, even if they are drug free with clean criminal records and have the means to care for these kids. Who is right and why?
Answer: There is no evidence to suggest that being raised by gay parents "affects" a child; not mentally, not physically, and not sexually. There is no good reason to keep two loving, stable parents from raising a child, especially when life in the foster system is pretty much GUARANTEED to screw a kid up (I'd take my chances with a gay couple anyday!). And, it is a fact that homosexual couples tend to be more stable and earn more money, thus being able to take better care of the kid than some Catholic family with six kids.
And I completely agree with King when he said that there is too much emphasis on who can adopt and not nearly enough on who can breed.
Question: What does the heterosexual parents think? I'm just curious what are the views of heterosexual parents towards homosexual adoption say like, do you think that having a tradition nuclear family is best for the child? when it comes to parenting do you think it is easier for heterosexual parents? Do you think a child's ability to identify gender roles is important?
Answer: Gender roles play a part but it's a small one and it doesn't need to come from a parent. It can come from a family member or a close family friend. I think love, nurturing, stability, showing the child what it means to be a good person and teaching them to become a successful, productive adult are the most important thing when raising a child. I also think there are many ways that one can have a "family;" in this day and age especially. There are children of divorce, children of single mothers or those being raised just by their father, children being raised by the grandparents or even siblings, and as you mention, those adopted by homosexual parents. And so long as they have the best interest of the child at heart, then they are "parents" in the true sense of the word and they deserve their family. Who are we to say they are not deserving? I don't think it's right to deny or withhold adoption to anyone who is very willing and able to care for a child and who longs to have a family. As for being easier, I don't think anyone has it easy being a parent no matter who they are. Parenting is the hardest job anyone could ever have. It can also be the most rewarding. But I don't think one group of people would have it easier over another group of people simply because of the sexual orientation or any other reason for that matter.
Question: Is there really a difference between racism and xenophobia? I often see Israel taken to task on this board for its alleged "racism". Yet, the people who are the quickest to level that charge and the ones most vociferous in expressing it all seem to come from countries with ancient and very entrenched traditions of xenophobia -- i.e. prejudice against ethnic and religious minorities, as well as a feeling of vast superiority to other societies and cultures. Countries that invariably condition citizenship and adoption on ethnicity or at least religion, create various classes of citizenship, indicate people's ethnicity or religion in their identifying documents, etc. Countries where children are taught that their society is the fount of all that is good and enlightened in the world, and all others are merely "consumers".
Do proud representatives of deeply xenophobic societies have the moral ground to criticize what they perceive to be racism in another country?

"When Greeks and non-Greeks fight, then, we'll describe this as warfare, and claim that they are natural enemies and that the term 'war' should refer to this type of hostility. But when Greeks get involved in this kind of thing with other Greeks, we'll claim that they are natural friends, and that in a situation like this Greece is diseased and in conflict, and we'll maintain that the term 'conflict' should refer to this type of hostility." -- Plato, REPUBLIC, at 470c-d (Robin Waterfield's translation)
Fighting the trolls: Several things:
I have been to over 30 countries. I have been to Greece and Italy (twice), and I have actually LIVED, at one time or another, in 4 very different countries. I am fluent in 3 languages and have a reasonably good command of a fourth. You? Alas, I've never been to China, so you got me on that one, pardner. On the other hand, I'm confident I've been to countries you've never seen, so it kinda evens out.
Your definition of xenophobia is disingenuously narrow. You are translating the source words literally, yet everyone knows, xenophobia refers to HATRED of foreigners. Of course, we can get into a whole argument of what constitutes "hatred". Is a desire to kill required to term it hatred, whereas, for example, telling people something along the lines of "without us you wouldn't have an alphabet" passes for innocuous national pride? The important thing, of course, is to apply the same standard to EVERY nation -- don't you think?
Fightingthetrolls:
Of course, my references to Plato are relevant. (And by the way -- I AM educated, and I AM familiar with Plato. Sorry if that rubs you the wrong way. I certainly didn't get my education with the goal of pissing you off. It's not about you, so relax.) The quote at the end of my original post distills the essence of xenophobia, like it or not. My other reference to Plato refers to a common aspect of xenophobia. What you describe as innocuous national pride is often expressed in ridiculous statements like, "We invented __________". Who's "we"? Xenophobes routinely ascribe to themselves, personally, the achievements of other people on the basis of their ethnicity. But I'm sure if I said instead "Being Jewish doesn't make you Einstein" it wouldn't offend you so much -- now, would it?
Fightingthetrolls:
Finally, you ask how I would determine if a society is xenophobic. I think I explained that in my original post, and this is just an area where we'll have to agree to disagree. According to you, xenophobia describes only fear, therefore a nationalist beating an immigrant with a baseball bat isn't a xenophobe according to you -- he's not AFRAID. So call it whatever you want and let's rephrase -- if you don't oppose policies or practices in your own society that discriminate between people on the basis of race or ethnicity, do you have the moral ground to decry such policies as pursued by another society? If you have ever expected gratitude from a member of another ethnic group for some invention or contribution made by a member of YOUR ethnic group, are you prepared to reciprocate such gratitude? If you declare your country the best in the world, will you be okay with someone saying the same thing about THEIR country? Or are you going to cringe?
Answer: My thoughts are aways with the Poor Palestinians that have to face the filth and the racism the immigrants brought with them.
Do you know that israle is the only country that requires a "race" certificate" proving that your race is jew? At least if your mother is jew.
I feel so happy that God made me Norwegian!
And my parents of course, lulz!
bye bye
Question: I wanted to find out what else i can do to find my birth parents, beside posting stuff on the web? I already have my non identifying information and have posted some stuff on the web but is there anything else I can do? It was a closed adoption so I am limited on what I can do.
Answer: Sometimes it's where on the web that you post as well.
Have you registered with isrr.net?
have you reigstered with g's adoption registry (they have a group of search angels and their find rate is incredible)
have you registered with registry.adoption.com
If you list what state you are in, I can give many more details.
Question: how do you acsess adoption court records, not just identifying info but the cort and social services reports.? Trying to prove that I had undiagnosed Fetal Alcohol Syndrome at birth, which has caused lifelong problems. My mother was an admitted heavy drinker. Would like to have copies of court documents that refer to her drinking.
Answer: Those records are sealed and doubtful you will eve be able to get your hands on them. I asked for clarification yrs back and was told that wasn't possible. IF you were in counseling back when you were a child or youth that counselor might have your record and you might get lucky there.
I do hope you get that information. Now we urge foster parents to have assessments done before adoption if they are planning to adopt.Good luck.
Question: Which is a better morality, and which political party do each likely come from? Party one identifies high personal standards of conduct and makes every attempt to attain and maintain those standards, but sometimes falls short.
Party one encourages adoption of standards and ethics, but really does not ever attempt to force it on anyone else.
Party two says there really should be no standards of personal conduct, all behaviors should be viewed without judgment.
Party two hates any suggestion of a higher value system, gets insulted that anyone would suggest one value system is better than another, and delights when someone fails to consistently attain high personal standards of conduct.
Make your best guess.
grrrr...does, not do.
I never identified that party as democrats, cryin...but if that's your guess, you may be in line for 10 points.
not that far left, gnu...just left.
gnu...excellent
gnu, the truth is, both parties have general belief systems, and to keep the base as large as possible, both belief systems are compromised at times. My parents are democrats, and they aren't evil, nor without morals. But they don't have much in common with the radical feminists you describe.
Answer: If we're talking about the US, both political parties try to impose standards of ethics on others (it just depends which ethical standards they emphasize), both parties have lots of hypocrites and a few sincerely ethical people among their leaders, neither party, on the whole, says there should be no standards, though the people who do deny any such standards are most likely found on the far left.
If we're playing a guessing game, I'll guess that you wish to claim that party one is the Republican party and party two is the Democratic party, mainly because the sort of rhetoric you're using is more typical for Republicans.
That's not to say I agree with your characterizations.
Reply: no, "far left", and only a portion of them. For example, the claims of many left-wing causes turn on ethical standards, e.g. the responsibility of employers to care for their workers, the responsibility to assure equal opportunity for women and minorities, the responsibility to maintain the health of the environment for future generations, the responsibility to provide for the health of the poor and uninsured. All of these involve ethical claims. They aren't ethical claims concerning private sexual morality, but they are ethical. And if you wanted to limit discussion to private sexual morality, it is frequently feminists on the left, who push for greater recognition of the wrongs of domestic violence and sexual harassment.
I don't mean to suggest Republicans don't have their ethics too. The Republican ethics tend to emphasize preserving the traditional family structure as the foundation of society, the ethics of allowing individuals to control their earnings and choose for themselves how to spend them, the ethics of protecting the private sphere from encroachments of government.
We're not talking about support for or opposition to ethics, but rather of different ethics being emphasized.
Um, is it "radical feminist" to oppose sexual harassment and domestic violence? Surely not! I oppose those things and I've been accused of being "anti-feminist".
Question: Is there a diplomatic and peaceful way to resolve immigration? After years of failed attempts to control illegal immigration, has any of our national leaders considered diplomacy with Mexico by helping and encouraging our neighboring country to build their own economic that will benefit their citizens.
I suspect money and profit is the ultimate/only goal for our national leaders who owe many many promises for the “donations” and incentive packages they receive, but has any considered the expense of patrolling our nation & crime, providing social services ect versus what it would cost to work with Mexico’s leaders to build companies there that they profit from and will make job security for their own? And on this end, have stiff penalties for those who hire and house the illegal immigrants? A child born here is an American citizen, can we change the law somehow that those children must be relinquished for adoption by American citizens?
Do any of our leaders (paid well and receiving incredible life long benefits at tax payers expense) aggressively seek to work with Mexico’s leaders (charisma and genuine concern opens doors) to identify why citizens leave to gain poverty status in America? And what can be done on that end to resolve those issues. Maybe something as simple as owning land incentives would work. American’s migrate where ever they can own land reasonably and provide for themselves.
Maybe if we invest in Mexico now, over the next ten years we could see a peaceful and productive solution to the current illegal immigration problems.
qman: That, by far, was not peaceful and it was not beneficial to both sides.
Answer: With sufficient education, most immigrants could determine beforehand that they do not want to be U.S. citizens.
Question: How can i find my biological father? I was adopted when i was 3 weeks old. My mother wanted a closed adoption, and didn't want me to have any of her personal identifying information. which included my fathers name and location. I have been trying to contact my mother all my life, with no answer. So i feel like i should move on to find my father because maybe he is trying to find me. But i don't even have his name. How can i go about this without any information...All i know is my moms first name, my birthdate, and where i was born. Please Help, any information would be great...
Answer: I am A 43 year old adopted male. I just located the adoption agency. The way to petition the court to break the seal is easier than you may think. All you need do is have some genetically inherited trait. I am a celiac wheat gluten intolerant. This is an inherited genetic function that is auto immune and can be deadly. This more is more than enough to open the seal. They will ask you if this is medical in nature or do you want contact . Now the court fee, in Washington D.C., was told to me yesterday, is 80 bucks. The adoption agency wants 500 dollars to break the seal and the courts approval. It isn't as hard as the others say. The dysfunctions that require the seal broken are easy . If you have no diabetics, or epilepsy , or kidney problems , but even bad allergies can crack the seal so , do not be discouraged and do not get your hopes up or you are running into a fall. I will also tell you that my dysfunction is now proven through genetics and is in 43 % of the general population. The 100% accurate HLA DQ1 through HLA DQ9 genetic modifier test can be bought and done easily online for 149 dollars. The lab Is Named Entero labs in Texas. There you have it!
Question: If you adopt a child, is there a record of adoption having taken place available to the public, but without? any identifying information?
Is there like an index or something kept, that you adopted a child, but not who?
Like if you were researching for genealological reasons, could you tell if a child was adopted or not?
Answer: If you were doing genealogical research, you would know because the record would be sealed in the birth book at the county level and only available through the state vital statistics. The record itself is not sent to the state. They don't cut it out of the birth book. They simply conceal it and send the information to the state for revision. You would know by looking at the county level.
ETA: What state has the entire birth index sealed? When someone is doing real genealogy, they get primary records for the individuals on their tree. If person A was born in county B of state C on 1 Jan 1970, but county B has no public record of the birth in the book for Jan 1970, either the birth information is incorrect, or the record is sealed. It's not rocket science.

Answer: At the risk of sounding like a cynic and being branded a "bitter and angry bmother" I would simply say that I have seen less hysteria on the Discovery Channel during a Shark Week feeding frenzy! It is impossible to escape it, since it is everywhere! I am sick to death of the exploitation. I know it is a horrible place right now and the conditions are almost beyond the scope of imagining, but why is it that during every disaster, the great hope is to "help the desperate" by helping ourselves to their children? Answer: Aren't you the same guy that lied a few days ago and said he found a Doberman.. Went thru this whole ordeal about finding the owners, wanting a name, and it turned out that you had stolen the photo from a website online?? Hmmm... Oddly you seem like that boy who cried wolf.. Now I don't believe you anymore..
