Immediate Family
A term that is generally used to refer to the smallest unit of a family that an individual lives with, which usually includes a father, a mother and siblings.
Question: Immediate Family? I know that your parents, brothers, and sisters are your "immediate family". But what about grandparents or great-grandparents - are they also considered "immediate family"?
Just wondering and thanks in advance to anyone who answers my question.
Answer: No, not really. "Immediate family" is generally meant the household you grew up in. I suppose if your grandparents raised you, this would be considered "immediate" in situations like "immediate family only invited." But in cases like medical history, when they ask about your immediate family, they mean your parents and siblings.
Question: immediate family? Me & my sister in law fell out & today i received a solicitors letter from her telling me not to contact her or her immediate family, would that include her mum & dad my inlaws
Answer: just have your husband to invite the inlaws over to see you.
I would think that since this is their daughter that they will side with her so dont be too upset if they wont show.....
As long as your husband supports you then there is not much you can do about that.
If your husband does not support you, you might want to make a decision to be the bigger person and just apologize to the sister in an effort to keep the peace.
This is probably not the best thing to do but it is the most mature and it is the one that will be the easiest on your husband,
sorry you are in the situation.
Even if you apologize it does not mean that you have to be around her you just tell her that you are sorry because of the fact that you dont want your husband to be in a bad situation where he has to choose between the two of you (you of course know who he would pick) but you dont want him to have to make that choice
Question: Who is considered immediate family by Georgia driving law? I live in georgia and im 16. I was just wondering who is considered in my "immediate family" b/c we have a foreign exchange student. Is she?
Answer: No, she's not. But, your great great great grandma is....
Question: What happens mentally and psychologically when an immediate family member? I'd like to know what happens when an immediate family member passes away. I lost my mom 3 years ago and im 18
Answer: You experience an incredible sense of loss causing grief. Grief is a normal response to profound loss. When you loose a parent, you often feel vulnerable because one of your chief protectors and advisors is gone. Some suffer from depression. Some just feel lost for awhile. When you finally get to the point that you now want to make them proud of you, you move on into life.
Question: What's the difference between 'intermediate family' and 'immediate family'? I'm looking to find the difference in the two descriptions of family - 'intermediate' and 'immediate'. Does anybody know the technical difference?
Answer: When studying groups or "families" of things, the results are sometimes divided into three categories: the lowest extreme family, the highest extreme family and the intermediate family. Here's an example from a study of schizophrenics
"Results
A well-performing, an impaired, and an intermediate family cluster emerged from the analysis."
The legal definition for "immediate" family varies from state to state but here's a typical one:
"Immediate family refers to a person’s parents, spouse, children, and siblings and will also include the parent’s spouse. Usually step children and adopted children and their spouses are included under the purview of immediate family."
I've noticed that "intermediate family" is frequently misused in place of "immediate family" as if they had the same meaning.
Question: Would an immediate family member, who is a California resident, help my applications to UC schools? My father has been recently stationed in California and declared residency there. He's being stationed there for 5 years. My mother and I are currently live in Hawaii, and I'm gonna be a high school senior this upcoming school year. Since my father is a California resident, would that help support my application to UC schools such as Berkeley or UCLA? Or is immediate-family member residential status not factored into their application process?
Answer: Your residency status is generally determined by where you and your guardian are physically living. Even tho your father is stationed in CA, because you do not live with him, you are not likely to be classified as a CA resident.
Question: How do I get legal residency with no immediate family? I am a Bahamian wishing to enlist into the US Marines. I am currently living in The Bahamas. I have no immediate family that are US citizens or legal residents. Is there anyway that I can gain legal residency to join the US Marines?
Answer: No. Visa info here: http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/…
Question: If a landlord evicts you for an immediate family member yet rents it out to the public what can you do? The landlord evicts you, for an immediate family member to move in. Yet after we move out, he puts the house up for rent, not moving the family member in. We had someone inquire about the house to see if it was ours, and it was. Is there anything I can do to the landlord, for evicting on false actions.
The lease was up, and it was a month-to-month renting agreement. But Im just wondering if he evicted me under false pretences, since he said on the eviction notice that he wanted his son to move in, and we had to leave in 30 days. I understand that, that part is legal. The house is a duplex, and the landlord moved in upstairs, and I smoke cigarettes which he did not like(but nothing on the lease ever said anything about a non-smoking residence) So he came up with the excuse to evict us for an immediate family member. He was always harassing us, and making up new rules everyday(No walking with shoes in the main hall, no using the water outlet outside, yet we pay for the water) I was hoping there was something we could do about it, concidering he lied to get us out. Even if the family member changed his mind, which i highly doubt he did, because the son told me to my face that he was needing a new home and would be moving in. In my honest opinion it was a lie to evict me and no reason.
Answer: You can't be evicted for relatives, only if the owner wants to reside on their property themselves.
I would take this back up with the judge that signed the eviction, it was incorrect to start with.
Question: Laws that protect immediate family member from being a accessory? I was just wondering if anyone can give me information, is if there are states that insulate immediate family members from punishment. When they aid a criminal after the crime had been committed. I remember a case Ulvinen V State. (Minnesota) which I believe it was the case but not finding any information on it.
Answer: Ulvinen vs. State was an appeal by the mother of a murderer of her own sentence for First Degree Murder for "aiding and abetting." The sentence of guilt was reversed based on the inadmissibility of hearsay regarding statements allegedly made by the victim, who obviously could not testify in court because she was dead.
The Court stated that: " These statements, which were extremely prejudicial, were likely to lead the jury to conclude that the deceased was afraid of her mother-in-law and therefore appellant probably disliked her enough to kill her. The admission of these statements was prejudicial error which would normally require a new trial. However, our decision that the evidence is insufficient to support a verdict of first degree murder requires instead that we reverse without remanding for a new trial."
The Court did mention that "She is insulated by statute from guilt as an accomplice after-the-fact for such conduct because of her relation as a parent of the offender. See Minn.Stat. § 609.495, subd. 2 (1980)"
I examined this statute and could not find any such provision. Perhaps it has changed in the last 30 years.
Parental immunity doctrine refers to a principle that children cannot sue their parents, and that parents cannot sue their children, for tort claims. I cannot find any information of laws that would grant a parent immunity from a charge of aiding and abetting a child's criminal activity.
The statement made by the Court in Ulvinen is, however, troubling, and indicates that there must be something out there somewhere.

Question: Is the "victim" allowed to contact immediate family members of the defendant after a no contact restraining? The victim is contacting a sibling of the defendants via e-mail after the restraining order has been put into effect. Does the no-contact extend to immediate family? Can this affect the defendant in any violation of the restraining order? The sibling knows not to answer back to any of the e-mails. Is the "victim" violating her side of the order by provoking responses from the defendant family?
Answer: The restraining order does not prohibit the victim from contacting anyone. It prohibits the defendant from having direct or indirect contact with the victim. If the victim contacts the defendant's sibling there is no violation as long as the defendant obeys the restraining order. The restraining order is for the defendant. It is not binding on the victim.

I have a brother in prison in California and a uncle who is a correction officer in California and I guess theirs a law against him seeing any immediate family of Inmates but their not in the same prison so I dont understand Why I cant see my own uncle so is there a law against him seeing me

Question: If a Jew converts to Christianity is the immediate family supposed to sit shiva for 7 days? How do Jews mourn the *spiritual death* of immediate family members who convert to another religion? Is there such a thing as Jewish *excommunication*
Answer: We need to clarify: a Jew who converts to ANY other religion, becomes an Apostate, and EX Jew.
In the majority of cases, there is no 'shiva', and should not be. Maybe in very Orthodox families something like this happens, but I don't think it's common. I hope it isn't, anyway.
The Jewish equivalent to excommunication is 'cherem'. Again, I don't think this happens very often, if at all.
There are *some* people in this forum who wrongly state that a Jew remains 'jewish' EVEN after becoming a Hindu/Christian/Muslim. This is simply ***not* true.
The idea that a person has 'jewish blood' and can never quite leave Judaism was populated by Hitler. Only those people who, in effect, agree with that Nazi definition of 'jewish' hold the insane belief that a person who becomes a practising Christian/Hindu etc can still also be 'jewish'.

Question: How many of you have diabetes, or have an immediate family member with diabetes? Reports show that diabetes is on the increase, much do to our diets. I am curious as to how many of you have it in your family. I have two immediate family members that have it. My dad's was diagnosed in his 70s and one of my brothers, in his 40s. Do you agree with the reports, of less than healthy eating habits, as the culprit, or do you believe it is totally a genetic condition, or both?
Answer: I tend to think it is both, but I also think it has a lot to do with some people being far more food sensitive & their bodies are unable to tolerate the basic foods that are "believed" to be good to have a healthy body & mind. Processed foods overload a persons system. If people would go back to eating fresh fruits & vegetables & stop eating processed packages foods, I think the diabetes problem would lessen. I have held mine "at bay" for years by completely changing my eating habits & turning my back on the fast foods that most people consume without question of content of the food. So far, so good. It isn't an easy juggling act & I must east (nibble) every 2-3 hours).
I think the rise in diabetes is due to the ingredients that the food manufacturers are putting into their products. HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP is a major trouble maker for the human body. Mixed with excessive fats & low fiber products that are high in Sodium & that's a recipe for the body to slow itself to a grinding halt trying to break down those foods for elimination. It's no wonder that everyone is having a colonoscopy to see what all that "crap" has done to their insides as it sits there for days on end.
All people need to do is get back to the basics of the foods they put into their bodies & stop buying all these processed packaged foods...especailly if diabetes runs in your family bloodlines. And for goodness sakes, stay AWAY from the artificial substitudes that mimic the taste of the culprit products, like sugar & salt...both are triggers for fooling the brain through the tongue.
