Immigration And Naturalization Service
This federal agency is operated under the United States Department of Justice, and has the responsibility of overseeing the immigration of all foreign-born individuals into the United States, whether they are adults or children. Before a foreign adoption can take place, permission must first be obtained from the INS for the foreign child to be able to lawfully enter the United States for the purpose of being adopted. After this approval has been given and the child has been adopted and brought to the United States under a visa and/or a green card issued by the INS, the adoptive parents can then apply to the INS for the child to become a United States Citizen, just as if the child had been born to the adoptive parents as their biological child.

Answer: It depends on the job.
You should start by knowing that there's no INS anymore. The new office is called U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services - USCIS- and it's no longer part of the Department of Justice but part of the Department of Homeland Security.
These are the jobs they're offering at the moment:

Question: Child Adoption & Immigration - Does The US Immigration & Naturalization Service Get Involved Here? If you've adopted a child in a foreign country and are bringing her home to the US, does the INS get involved in this process?
Answer: What used to be the Immigration & Naturalization Service (INS) is now the US Citizenship & Immigration Services (USCIS) -- part of the Department of Homeland Security.
Your adopted child is a citizen of a foreign country and technically, is immigrating to the US. So if you are a US citizen then you'll need to comply with INS rules for bringing her to the country. It is part of the child's naturalization process.
Question: Does the INS(Immigration and Naturalization Service) inspect the house of a married couple? I hear rumors that they check upon people's houses as random as 11:00 p.m. at night to see if a couple is living together, and that if denied entry into the house they deny the application for citizenship that one of the spouses is trying to acquire.
Is this true, a myth, or an old practice that isn't done anymore?
I'm also curious about it because my lawyer had told me that they do not do this at all. So I'm wondering if he doesn't know what he's talking about
Answer: It depends on the couple, they never came to my house or my sister..who married my husbands' younger brother, but I had some frinds at work who did get paid a few visits.
It wasn't at 11 at night, but it was in the evening after dinner. And they had another early morning visit. I work at Disney World and there are some International cast members at Epcot looking to get married and stay here. So that could be why they were checked up on.
I have several friends who have married middle eastern men who have never been bothered by INS.

To accomplish this, we "adjudicate" (decide upon) the petitions and applications of potential immigrants.
