Residential Treatment
A therapeutic intervention processes for individuals who cannot or do not function satisfactorily in their own home environments. For children and adolescents, residential treatment tends to be the last resort when a child is in danger of hurting himself or others.

Question: Is there any residential mental health treatment centers in or near texas? I am looking for a residential treatment center for MENTAL HEALTH. Something long term for a year or longer. For adult males only. I have searched and searched and i cant find anything. I need a professional to help me. He has bipolar and scitzophrenia. Thank You.
Answer: I used to be a Deputy Sheriff here in Texas, and one of the things I did was to transport mental health patients to different facilities. Most of them were state facilities, but I recall one that I believe is a residential facility. The atmosphere was so much better than most, and the patients entered into this place freely and voluntarily. On occasion, when I would take somebody to Terrell or Rusk, they would talk of how they preferred Glen Oaks in Greenville TX.. Maybe they had been there before, or just heard of it, I don't know. I've even had people tell me they wouldn't cooperate with me unless I took them to Glen Oaks. And some didn't, and they sure fought hard. I really hated doing that. I remember the place well. It is right off of I-30. I do not remember if they took forced committals or not. I don't think they do, but that is up to the stipulations and the court judgment along with the place of business. You could contact them to find out. It would probably be worth it. they are owned by a company that may have more facilities closer to you, according to where you live. Any facility like this is going to be less pleasant than home, and there will be certain types of lock-downs and privileges monitored. However, Glen Oaks does allow a certain amount of smoking, which is a big issue with most patients as most of them smoke. they allow visitation and bringing clothes to loved ones. I've visited all of them from just east of Dallas, to Texarkana, to Tyler, to Rusk. Glen Oaks seemed to be the best. I do not remember the names, but I also remember some more relaxed atmospheres and voluntary committals in Sherman, maybe Atlanta, and Tyler, but Glen oaks is your best bet. MHMR may know of some, and probably do, but they usually deal with state facilities that I saw. More often than not, dealing with MHMR patients was problematic with violence.
Question: How can I find help paying for a residential treatment program for my developmentally disabled son? I am new to this, but am wondering if any of you have adult children in residential treatment programs for people with developmental disabilities? How do you go about funding something like this? Is social security there to help with what I can't cover out of pocket? Any advice or experiences would be very helpful, and thank you.
Answer: look in your yellow pages under gov. look for dept. of disabilities. if your son was diagnosed before the age of 21 the state well pick up the whole bill. as well as fund anything else he needs.
if you son has social sercurity then you know about red tape and hanging in there sometimes it is very easy and sometimes you have to patient.
Question: How can I find Funding to get my son in Residential Treatment? My stepson has Child Bipolar Disorder and my wife and I are unable to pay or qualify for help for residential treatment. We are hoping to find additional resources in order to do what is best for our family and our son/stepson.
Answer: Check out your local library. Through meds and behavioral changes, it can be controlled. It will take patience and understanding on your part. The web also has a lot of stuff on it. If you would like email me for more info.

Question: Why is it that most kids in out of state residential treatment? Are from California? Most kids who end up in a residential treatment center like in Utah are kids who are from California. Why is this?
Answer: It could be because California is such a large state. We also have major drug problems in the more populous areas. But I am curious as to what others have to say as well.
Question: what is a residential treatment programme? I have recently asked a question on here on behalf of my daughter's mental health. One of the people who answered said that they thought I should put my daughter put into a residential treatment programme. What is this? Is it the same as a psychiatric hospital, and would they be available in the UK?
Answer: My son is in residential treatment programs often for asperger's syndrome. I'm in the US. The places he has been in have been varied, some were like hospitals, some were like boarding schools with large campuses, several buildings and dorms. A usual stay is a year... they will tell you less time, but it will be a year more than likely. I don't see why they wouldn't have them in the UK, but I could be wrong. I wish you the best of luck.

Question: What to pack for residential treatment? *PLEASE READ THIS SO I GET HELPFUL ANSWERS*
Okay so I'm going to a residential treatment for behavior and mental health, I've been their before but can't remember what I brought. I'm going to be there for 3-6 months. So can someone make me a small list? I just need an idea of what to bring. I can't have glass, radios, computers, ect. but I can have like books, sketchbooks, pencils, cd players WITHOUT radio, ect. So feel free to make a miscellaneous list too. :) Thank you!
Answer: At a residential treatment center, you can bring your own body wash, shampoo etc... BUT you cannot bring any with alcohol in the first 3 ingredients. They will confiscate it because those products are banned. But they will provide it for you. Also, some provide electric razors that you can use once a week... Of course, this may vary center to center. But I guess you probably know that sense you've been there before...
But you'll definitely need a stress reliever, lol, because their will be a lot of people there to piss you off, lol.
You are going to need to bring things that you would not mind being stolen, ruined, etc. I know you probably protect your stuff, but you know how things go... things just happen out of our control sometimes.
If you are an adolesent, make sure that you have the people closest to you on your calling list, or they won't let you contact them. Don't bring anything incriminating, etc. or they will tell you that you have some issues that you don't have... you know how they like to "diagnose" you with things all the time... valid or not.
What is allowed on the unit various according to what age group you are in... For instance, adolescents are much more restricted than adults.
Medications/prescriptions, writing pads without metal, clothing/shoes without strings, undergarments without metal (if you're a female), books, hobbies that can't be used as a weapon, cd's (in case they allow you to use radio/cd player in living area (though they are not allowed in the rooms).... They will likely give you a strip search and drug test upon entry into the center.... Bring anything you like, mostly, because whatever you can't have, they will keep in your contraband until you leave, and they may even let you use somethings under supervision of a staff member.
Clothes for exercise... You mostly need to bring what you would use, obviously something you or someone else can't hurt themselves/someone else with. *They are weird about that.*
I am pretty experienced in this area, so if you have any more questions email me or IM me.

Hope I can and have helped!

Question: Should I be scared of going into residential treatment? I'm going into residential treatment because of my emotional problems. I'm really scared and nervous, do i have a reason to be???
Answer: This is a big step. Congratulations for doing what you need to do to feel better. You will have the constant support of others. You will not have to be alone. There will always be someone to talk to. I hope you will find it easy to adjust. Best Wishes for the future.
Question: What kinds of things can you bring to a residential treatment facility for mental health? I know you can't bring things like belts and earrings to acute crisis hospitals. How does a residential hospital differ?
Can I have my cellphone in there? Or, like, a game device like a DS? I'm just curious. I know each hospital has different policies, but what do they usually accept?
Answer: The only way to know for sure is to ask the hospital. It's a safe bet that you won't be allowed to bring your cell phone, as they prefer to limit your contact with the outside world (for therapeutic reasons; it's not just a power trip). A game device might be allowed, but again, the only way to know is to ask.
Generally, they don't like things that could be used as a weapon against yourself or others. This includes anything sharp, or that could be made sharp (like a glass photo frame - just break it and you've got a handy weapon), anything you could theoretically hang yourself with, or any heavy bludgeoning instruments.
The cell phone thing is, as I mentioned, designed to limit your outside contact (for the same reason, you probably won't be able to bring in blackberries or anything that you can log onto the internet with). Time-spending devices like video games and iPods are usually allowed, but sometimes you will only have limited access to them (they'll keep them locked in an office and you can use them two or three hours a day).

Question: How to tell my friends that I am going to be going to a residential treatment place for anorexia? They don't even know that I am anorexic.
I am 12 years old, and in one week I have to go live in another state to get treatment for my anorexia.
I am thinking about texting them after my last day of school there. I really don't want to have to say it to them in person. I know they wouldn't understand, and it would just be awkward. What should the text say? Or should I write them a letter?
Answer: I'd write a letter - it will be harder for them to reply immediately afterwards so they won't have the opportunity to blurt out their first response which may or may not be appropriate.
I would just stick to the basics of how long you expect you'll be gone, whether or not you'll be able to contact them while away or not, and let them know that even though you may not have been able to talk to them about anorexia before hand that you'll be willing to answer questions (when you get back).
If you're finding it too difficult, you could always ask your parents to talk to their parents after you've left.
Good luck with recovery!
Question: Should i be scared of going into residential treatment? I'm going into residential treatment because of my emotion problems and disorders and I'm really scared and nervous that I'm not going to get better. should i be scared???
Answer: Its natural to feel scared or anxious about going into the treatment centre. However, this is a major step towards your recovery and you should try and feel positive about this. Being in there will be emotionally hard work, but try your hardest to get better and you'll be out of there as soon as possible. To recover you have to really want to recover.
I wish you the very best of luck.
