Question: unclaimed funds? I have received a paper from a friend stating, 2008 cuyahoga county unclaimed funds account with my name listed as
rawls alfonzo 3342 E. 134th st which is my old address.
I would appreciate if you could find any validity to this news paper.
Answer: Go to the following web site and click on the link for your state. It should have a way to search if there are unclaimed funds in your name. Many have a way to make the claim online.
http://www.unclaimed.org/
Question: How to receive unclaimed funds from a past job? I just got a notice from a job I had two years ago that I have unclaimed funds. I did not cash the check or put it in my bank account because I misplaced the check and when I found it it was void because of the date.
If I fill out the form and return it, will I receive a new check for this money?
I live in Ohio. The form I got is called an OUF-8 Notice of Unclaimed Funds.
Answer: Yes, you will receive a new check.
Don't lose it, deposit it ASAP (before you do lose it again).
Question: How to collect unclaimed funds after a death? My great grandmother passed in 1984, she had 4 children (3 surviving her). My grandmother is now the only one living. There was no known will. There are 3 accounts listed in unclaimed funds. How does my grandmother claim these? She tried once and was told she needed probate records, but as I said there was no known will. The funds are all in Cuyahoga County, Ohio.
Answer: Even though there was no will, there should still be probate records. Absent a will, a probate court must determine who gets the assets. The paper issued by the court indicating the beneficiary of the assets is what is required to claim the other assets.
Question: What are unclaimed funds and how do they work? My friend was told he had unclaimed funds but I have no idea of what they are.
Answer: If an account hasn't had any new activity for many years, then the account is considered dormant and the funds may be funds that someone has forgotten about, and therefore these funds are considred unclaimed funds. If an insurance company can't give someone an inheritance because they can't track the beneficiary down, then this is another example of unclaimed funds. There are web sites that will tell you for free if you have any unclaimed funds.
Question: How can I claim outstanding unclaimed funds without paying a fee? I got a letter from a 'locator of unclaimed funds' saying that they had located a very large amount of money for a business i am a part of.
I checked all the government websites for unclaimed property but to no avail. Is this a scam? It is a very large amount over 20k. what should I do? I am hesitant to call this guy.
Answer: Yeah it's definitely a scam. The only possibility that it isn't is if you believe that you have over 20K of unclaimed funds for some reason...
But even that doesn't make sense because he's claiming to have located a 'large amount of money for a business i am a part of.'
The 'located' money would go to the business, not directly to you.
He'll probably want you to send him a fee to collect this 'located' money.
Question: How can I collect unclaimed funds "held in trust for an heir to the estate of" my uncle? I received a letter from "Nationwide Asset Recovery Services" stating that they specialize in locating missing heirs and money. They stated that their research has disclosed unclaimed funds are being held in trust for an heir to the estate of my uncle, and they if they were to uncover the funds, I could collect 2/3 and they would keep 1/3. I have the feeling that if I knew how, I could access 100% of the money? Yet, I have no idea where these funds may be.
Answer: This is a scam. Do not reply. If you really think that there are unclaimed funds available to you, contact the controller's office for the state that you live in. For example, if you live in New York State, the website is:
http://www.osc.state.ny.us/ouf/index.htm

Question: How do I find unclaimed funds? I bought 249 shares of Berkshire Realty from Mellon corporation in 1991. I haven't received any statements from them for years. Any ideas on how to locate my shares?
Answer: A few things may help! It is possible the company in which you invested went bust, or was merged into another company. Sometimes in the process shareholders get lost in the shuffle because of errors by the transfer agents. Here goes:
If it is a corporation incorporated in the U.S., and if you have the stock certificate, on the face of the certificate you will see the words "Incorporated under the Laws of the State of ... ". You will write a letter to the Secretary of State office in the state in which it was incorporated and include a copy (not original) of the certificate, and ask them to tell you if the corporation exists in the same name or any successor form of registration.
If you do not have the stock certificate, you should have the original confirmation slip from the broker when you bought the stock. On the slip look for the CUSIP number of the security. Every type of security for the corporation would have a unique CUSIP number. You can check with the SEC web site to see if that cusip number exists or has been changed and get the address of the corporation that way.
If you moved to another state, after buying the shares, and the corporation did not know, your shares or the value thereof would be transferred to the unclaimed property division of the Secretary of State office of the state which was your last known residence. Prove your identity and that office would turn the property over to you.
Hope this helps!
Question: How long does it take for the state to send you Unclaimed Funds left from deceased relatives? Has anyone actually collected on this?
Answer: Yes. Once the check is cut it can take up to 30 days, but is usually doesn't. Once it hits the payment center and is processed the check takes only a couple of days. If you can track when the check made it to the payment center (which you can usually do with a phone call) you can pretty much figure out when your check should be there).
Peace & Love :)
Question: Where do I find my unclaimed funds? Im from Texas - I was contacted by a third party company saying they have my unclaimed $348.09 and refused to tell me where to find it. So, I called Austin, TX to find out if they have anything listed by my name and they said they dont have anything listed. How did they find it even its not on listed? Scam?
Thanks!
The third party company wants 50% of it before telling me where to find it.
Answer: This sounds like crap to me. There is a website run by the state of Texas where you can see if you have any unclaimed property. You are the only person that can claim this property (or if you were dead an heir could claim it) so this company is bogus. Here is the website: http://www.window.state.tx.us/up/ Good luck - hope you have some $$ waiting!
Question: How do I find unclaimed funds in my name from a federal case? This was from a class action law suit. I have looked in my state www.missingmoney.com and it doesn't show up. Thanks!
GET EM GONE- thanks, was to that website but can't get any more info from that.
Answer: The lawyers that represented the class should know. Do you have copies of any documents you signed when you joined the class? Do you know which court it was in and the name(s) of the defendant(s)? if you have more information, maybe I could be of more help.
Question: Unclaimed or dormant funds. How do I find them? a realitive has been told that she has some unclaimed funds from a long dead realitive and a dormant fund with her name on it. But she cant find the funds. the person who told her was fired for telling her she had these funds was a bank employ. My realative is very very poor and that money could get her a decent home. How does she find it if no one will tell her where to get it.
Answer: Check with the Treasurer's office in the state in which your relative died. State Treasurers maintain records on unclaimed funds from persons living and dead. Most of them allow you to search online for a particular person's name to see if there is anything there. Then, you request paperwork to file with the Treasurer's office to prove your identity and how you are entitled to the money.
Happy fishing!
Question: How do I get information about unclaimed funds or property in Canada ?

Question: What happens to unclaimed funds on PayPal? I recently won an item on ebay and paid through paypal. The user I won it from is now no longer a registered ebay user and won't return my e-mails, but they also have not claimed the money from PayPal. Will PayPal eventually give me my money back if the person never claims it? Or what is the best way to resolve this?
Answer: I believe it's 30 days then PayPal returns the money to sender.
I would log-in to PayPal and file a dispute claim. I wouldn't let them claim the money at the last minute.
That is of course if they haven't delivered :)
