Question: When a membrane is hyperpolarised what stimulus causes an action potential? Textbooks etc only say that a 'stronger than usual' stimulus is required to overcome the hyperpolarisation. What would an example of this "stronger than usual" stimulus be? Also would this be whilst the previous sensation is felt? Or afterwards?
Thanks!
Answer: it depends on what type of cell
different cells have receptor sites
for instance, a muscle cell (sarcolemma or myocyte) would hace receptor sites for the neurotransmitter acetylcholine
as with other nerve cells, it would run on the "all or none" principle
An action potential (or nerve impulse) is a transient alteration of the transmembrane voltage (or membrane potential) across an excitable membrane in an excitable cell (such as a neuron or myocyte) generated by the activity of voltage-gated ion channels embedded in the membrane. The best known action potentials are pulse-like waves of voltage that travel along the axons of neurons.
"All-or-none" principle
The amplitude of an action potential is independent of the amount of current which produced it. In other words, larger currents do not create larger action potentials. Therefore action potentials are said to be all-or-none (or boolean), since they either occur fully or they do not occur at all. Instead, the frequency of action potentials is what encodes for the intensity of a stimulus. This is in contrast to receptor potentials, whose amplitudes are dependent on the intensity of a stimulus
in other words, until enough of the neurtransmitter has built up to reach the action potential "threshold" the neuron will not fire
Question: Federal "causes of action" - where can I find a list? I need the exact titles that describe my causes of action, but can't seem to find a list that shows titles used in federal court (IL).
For example, "predatory lending" is not a cause of action - "fraudulent appraisal is not a cause of action, "breach of duty of good faith" is not a cause of action, "withholding important information" is not a cause of action, etc.
The best an attorney could tell me is that there are only a few recognized causes of action in federal courts.
But, what are they?
thanks for any info
Answer: First of all, in federal court they are referred to as "Claims for Relief," not causes of action. Second, there's no list. Normally, claims for relief are named by the specific federal law alleged to be violated--e.g., 24 U.S.C. Section XXXX; Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act; etc.
Question: Can I make a living from starting a Political Action Commitee for a cause I beleive in? Can you make a living from your PAC?

Question: Has anyone ever sued a company over wrongful retaliation termination and won? I was terminated from my job and I KNOW it was retaliation for what my boss believed to be too much time off. I had the time accured for the time I took away from the office, and the time off was backed by doctor's verifications for every instance. I am frustrated and full of resentment and don't know if I have it in me to proceed with litigation. Has anyone every actually won in pursuing this type of cause/action, either for a severance package or further?
Answer: what you have explained does NOT meet the definition of retaliation.......
if you are absent from work regardless of the reasons why or how much accrued time you have the employer may discipline you (the only exceptions are absences that are covered by FMLA or similar state program)...
in the US unless you have a contract that is breached or you are terminated based on a discriminatory reason, taking part in a protected activity or retaliation there is NO such thing as "wrongful termination"....
see this site for information on discrimination:
http://www.eeoc.gov
retaliation is illegal only when it is due to the employee reporting the employer to a regulatory agency
protected activities vary greatly by state BUT they can include political activity, drug rehab, jury duty, court appearances, discussing wages..... in some states none of these are protected while in others all of them are.......
the number one reason for terminations, "with cause", in the US is absenteeism.
Question: Will the invasion of Gaza cause global jew-hatred ? Any body with a little sense of humanity will object to the massacre of civilians by air, sea and ground Israeli forces. Will such cruel action cause anti-jew feelings around the world?
Answer: Yes. In fact, it could cause a revolt in a variety of Arab nations whose ruling elite is under the thumb of U.S. imperialism. The brutal attack upon the people of Gaza is a very reckless move by the Americans and Israelis.
Question: Will Delayed SAT scores cause me to miss early action college deadline? I have applied to several colleges under the early action option. The deadline is November First (this Sunday). My transcripts and Applications are at every school I applied to. However, I didn't know that the SAT scores had to be sent in via College Board instead of just from my highschool. I sent them out this morning but I don't know if I will be accepted under the Early Action deadline if they don't arrive on time. Not all of them are sent electrionically but I really don't want to have to wait for Regular Decision notification. Any help?
Answer: If the scores don't arrive on time, you'll have missed the early action deadline. However, you can certainly contact the schools, explain the situation, and see if they're willing to be flexible on this. It's worth the conversation.
Question: How old were you when you became aware that you could bring a civil action for any cause whatsoever? I ask this because I haven't always been aware of this, and while I know that not all causes are worth being taken to court (or have a chance to win), this could have been helpful to me in other times...
In times, I was convinced that the law already stipulated which causes could be taken to court (and those were relatively restricted cases).
Answer: Well you can *try* to sue for anything...but if you don't have a valid claim, the defendant will get your case kicked out on a motion to dismiss.
Question: What cause of action do I have? I was planning a charity run for more than a year and midway through it was disrupted by a third party's negligence that is provable. Can that business be held liable for the cost of the run leading up to the event and all the work that went into it (for which there are tangible damages)?
For example, since there was a runner who donated his time to run. Can we attach a dollar figure for that training? How about the food, shoes, etc.?
Hi, Thanks for the answer. The company illegally towed the support vehicle and then illegally sold it. Aside from their liability with regard to the vehicle, I cannot sue them for the cost of putting on the event? Can I add it to the punitive damages and explain to the jury why they should award a higher judgement?
Answer: There is no cause for action for negligent interference with a business expectancy.
Sorry.
Question: Theres a child abduction emergency going on and im confused.? what is a child abduction emergency for? they said that the warning is out untill 9:17 and right now its 8:57 here.... how do they know when it will end?
what is a child abduction emergency?! its the first time it happened to us because we just moved here a year ago... sunday was the first flood i have ever seen in my life, we're in cook county, IL. IM CONFUSED! please help me!
Answer: A "child abduction emergency" is declared when a child has recently been abducted (or recently been seen in a particular area) and there is reason to think the abductor intends to harm the child. Such emergencies are declared in order to mobilize local law enforcement and get citizen's to keep their eyes opened.
They know when it's going to end because of a combination of factors:
1) If the abductor is moving, say in a car, they only expect them to be in a particular area for a particular amount of time.
2) After a certain amount of time, the abductor will get where he's going, so there's no point in looking for him on the streets forever.
Generally, law enforcement agencies have guidelines for when to declare such an emergency and how long to declare it for.
For example, if a car that's suspected to hold a child and a stranger who abducted them is seen in a county, such an emergency may be declared in that county for one hour, if it's a small county.
You might think more is better, but experience shows that if you try to declare too many emergencies or emergencies for too long, people start to ignore them.
(For example, our country has a terror alert level. Do you remember when they used to report it every day or so? Do you have any idea where it is now? Me neither.)
Question: What is a good tittle for a child abduction project? i am in Robinson DECA and i need a title for my project! please help im any way you can

Question: As an adult I find that neither parent is biological parent, not adopted either could it be a child abduction?
Actually they were terrible parents.
Answer: There are seemingly endless possiblities to what could have happened.
Do your "parents" have a copy of a birth certificate? Have you contacted your old schools to find out what kind of documentation they might have?
What is your earliest memory and are they in it? Are they seriously not telling you anything? If all else fails, you could try a hypnotherapist. You may have a suppressed memory from your young childhood that you are having difficulty recovering.
I'm sorry. I wish I had the answer for you. I hope I have mentioned at least one thing that could take you down a different road to discovery.
Question: What cities have the highest child abduction rates?
Answer: Caracas, Mexico in general as well as Uganda and Sudan.
Question: Whose fault is it in Child Abduction Cases? Parents or the Predators??
Answer: The predators. As a parent I want to keep my daughter safe and away from anything that will harm her. I also want her to grow up free and be confident, to feel free to walk around and play with her friends.
I hold the worry that some freak may be just around the corner, I bought her walky talkies so if she was out of sight we could be in contact if ever.
Funny though they never worked at feeding time when I used to call her in!
Question: What is your all-time favourite child abduction?
Answer: Rhea absconding with Zeus to protect him from being eaten by his father, Cronos.
EDIT: To the outraged gals above and below me, this is the mythology section. Child abduction was a common theme among the Greeks, Celtics, Norse, and others. We're not talking about literal events here.
Question: Has child abduction gone up since the eighties? I need statistics that show according to the population.
Answer: If you remove parental custody cases that are, by no means, true abductions from the statistics, the number of incidents has been fairly steady over the last 50 years. Of course, there is no incentive for those who have created a cottage industry out of portraying this as 'every child is at risk' and the media that feeds on the overreaction of a society that has replaced reason with soppy emotionalism to broadcast this reality.

Question: Do ad's help child abduction/poor countries/animal abuse? Is there any way to tell if there is an advertisement whether it be on TV or billboard and such, effect child abduction/poor countries/animal abuse? I'm doing a debate and I can't find anything statistic wise. Thank you in advance :)
Answer: You really need to contact the organizations sponsored in the ads.
For instance years ago I used to work on World-vision telethons.
It was common knowledge that the average viewer watched about ten minutes of any telethon, so when we edited together the heart-wrenching stories we were as graphic and dramatic as possible.
We knew that we needed to reach through the TV screen and grab the viewer by their emotional collar in order to get instant donations.
I hope this info helps you.
Question: Is there a child murder or abduction case that you care a lot about? The Jon Bene Ramsey case has reminded me of an abduction that took place in my home town when I was young. A four-year old boy named Michael Dunahee dissappeared and has never been found. If he is still alive, which is possible, he would be a teenager. Of all the cases involving missing or murdered children in the world this is the one that I most wish were solved.
Is there a similar case in your community that you care a lot about?
Answer: my step dad's brother was kidnapped and never heard from again
that was a long time agao...like in the 70's
and there was a case in cambridge mass where a little boy was kidnapped, raped, and killed by 2 gay guys.....that was awful, and my brother knew the kid i think
Question: Other than child abduction, what is behind the unusual international search for Madelaine McCann? rec'd email showing oddity in 1 eye being sent world-wide, I don't remember any case involving such a broad search, why were children left alone?, are parents wealthly?, what is their employment status?, it seems a mistake, somehow, to bring attention to her eye.
Answer: money money money..... the parents are trying to buy their way out of their guilt
Question: Why are Child Abduction Stories Now All Linked to the McCann Case? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kPNcHGaUgp4
Read this story, and can anyone tell me what is similar to the McCann Case, as the Daily Mail seem to think?
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/worldnews/article-1143865/Girl-5-snatched-Florida-home-chilling-new-McCann-case.html
And yes it is a current event, this story is less than 3 hours old
Nephtali
Thats the ONLY link!!!!!
Apart from.......................................
Answer: The trouble with the press is when they don't have much to report they make something up. If there is nothing in common between the two, it is because there isn't. Except the sad fact of a child missing. Journalists whip up fear in people, until everyone thinks there are child abducters under every stone and behind every tree.
