8. I feed my pet dry food. Is dry pet food safe?
Menu Foods only manufactures wet pet food in cans and foil pouches. Dry pet food is not part of the Menu Foods recall.
9. I’m just not sure if my dog or cat had any of the food that is being recalled. They act fine and don’t appear to have any symptoms. Should I be worried?
As always, remain alert for any changes in your pet’s health.
10. Are there other ways my pet might get sick and show similar symptoms?
Yes – antifreeze ingestion, certain rodenticides and some medications. Certain lilies have been shown to cause kidney failure if consumed by cats. Grapes have been reported to cause kidney failure in dogs and may affect cats. Physical damage from trauma and cancerous conditions can also cause kidney damage.
11. Has Menu Foods begun contacting consumers about claims?
The professional team hired by Menu began contacting consumers on Thursday March 23, 2007. This team worked through the weekend in an effort to get to as many people as possible. In order to assist in our efforts to contact these concerned pet owners as quickly as possible we ask that those who have already reached us to refrain from repeat calls.

December 19, 2008 Being a good Samaritan in California just got a little riskier.
The California Supreme Court ruled Thursday that a young woman who pulled a co-worker from a crashed vehicle isn't immune from civil liability because the care she rendered wasn't medical.
The divided high court appeared to signal that rescue efforts are the responsibility of trained professionals. It was also thought to be the first ruling by the court that someone who intervened in an accident in good faith could be sued.
Lisa Torti of Northridge allegedly worsened the injuries suffered by Alexandra Van Horn by yanking her "like a rag doll" from the wrecked car on Topanga Canyon Boulevard.
Torti now faces possible liability for injuries suffered by Van Horn, a fellow department store cosmetician who was rendered a paraplegic in the accident that ended a night of Halloween revelry in 2004.
But in a sharp dissent, three of the seven justices said that by making a distinction between medical care and emergency response, the court was placing "an arbitrary and unreasonable limitation" on protections for those trying to help.
In 1980, the Legislature enacted the Health and Safety Code, which provides that "no person who in good faith, and not for compensation, renders emergency care at the scene of an emergency shall be liable for any civil damages resulting from any act or omission."
Although that passage does not use the word "medical" in describing the protected emergency care, it was included in the section of the code that deals with emergency medical services. By placing it there, lawmakers intended to shield "only those persons who in good faith render emergency medical care at the scene of a medical emergency," Justice Carlos R. Moreno wrote for the majority.
The high court cited no previous cases involving good Samaritan actions deemed unprotected by the state code, suggesting the challenge of Torti's rescue effort was the first to narrow the scope of the law.
The three dissenting justices argued, however, that the aim of the legislation was clearly "to encourage persons not to pass by those in need of emergency help, but to show compassion and render the necessary aid."
Justice Marvin R. Baxter said the ruling was "illogical" because it recognizes legal immunity for nonprofessionals administering medical care while denying it for potentially life-saving actions like saving a person from drowning or carrying an injured hiker to safety.
"One who dives into swirling waters to retrieve a drowning swimmer can be sued for incidental injury he or she causes while bringing the victim to shore, but is immune for harm he or she produces while thereafter trying to revive the victim," Baxter wrote for the dissenters. "Here, the result is that defendant Torti has no immunity for her bravery in pulling her injured friend from a crashed vehicle, even if she reasonably believed it might be about to explode."
Both opinions have merit, "but I think the majority has better arguments," said Michael Shapiro, professor of constitutional and bioethics law at USC.
Shapiro said the majority was correct in interpreting that the Legislature meant to shield doctors and other healthcare professionals from being sued for injuries they cause despite acting with "reasonable care," as the law requires.
Noting that he would be reluctant himself to step in to aid a crash victim with potential spinal injuries, Shapiro said the court's message was that emergency care "should be left to medical professionals."
Torti's liability has yet to be determined in court, and if the Legislature is unhappy with any judgment arising from the immunity denial, it can revise the code, he concluded.
Torti, Van Horn and three other co-workers from a San Fernando Valley department store had gone out to a bar on Halloween for a night of drinking and dancing, departing in two cars at 1:30 a.m., the justices noted as background.
Van Horn was a front-seat passenger in a vehicle driven by Anthony Glen Watson, whom she also sued, and Torti rode in the second car. After Watson's car crashed into a light pole at about 45 mph, the rear car pulled off the road and driver Dion Ofoegbu and Torti rushed to help Watson's two passengers escape the wreckage.
Torti testified in a deposition that she saw smoke and liquid coming from Watson's vehicle and feared the car was about to catch fire. None of the others reported seeing signs of an imminent explosion, and Van Horn said in her deposition that Torti grabbed her arm and yanked her out "like a rag doll."

Answer: Yeah, the California Supreme Court really dropped the ball on this one. Like the one dissenting justice noted, a passerby could save a person from a burning house and be liable for injuries inflicted in getting the victim to the sidewalk. However, that passerby would not be liable for any injuries while giving the victim CPR on the sidewalk.
It doesn't make sense. Oh well. This is one of those issues that the legislature will almost surely revisit to re-draft the law.
And while the decision of the Court is baffling - at best - you can't really blame them. When you have laws that are poorly written to start with, you get terrible decisions from the court.

We expect that your laboratory will produce a karyotype which involves pairing the 46 human chromosomes into an ordered picture from largest to smallest. The largest chromosomes are #1, the second #2, and so forth, to the 22nd pair. The 23rd pair of chromosomes – the sex chromosomes – are always listed as the last pair of chromosomes. We are including a photograph of the fetus’s chromosomes and expect that you will pair and number them in the appropriate order according to our strict medical standards (use glue to ensure that the chromosomes do not accidentally become lost).
Mrs. Doe is especially interested in knowing if the fetus has one of the following chromosomal abnormalities. These genetic abnormalities are due to problems during meiosis in the formation of the egg or sperm, resulting in a missing chromosome, an extra chromosome, or a break in a specific chromosome. well what do the chromosomes even look like? Any way take the chromosomes you got and sort all 46-47 of them on the floor or on a table from longest to shortest. When you are done, pair them next to each other 2x2... so you should have approximately 23 piles of paired chromosomes with perhaps one by his lonesome
if your professor/lab instructor was gracious, then they gave you the chromosomes on a piece of paper in order and you just have to number them, in this case number them all 1-22 and the chromosomes that are over to themselves will be your sex chromosomes label them XX for girl or XY for female (I will tell you how to determine sex a little later)
Now you have to check and see for syndromes, because you are being put into the role of someone who karyotypes chromosomes and determines whether or not the baby will come out normal or not
I'm pretty confident that the fetus you are karyotping has a disorder (otherwise whats the point of doing the lab) so you should definitely have 45, 47, or a break in a chromosomes!!!

Question: Is it acceptable for my husband excessively text a female friend? Should there be boundaries established? I would like to hear responses from women who do not have insecurity or jealousy issues. I would like to hear from women who are confident and secure in themselves...I feel that this way i will get a more rational response. No offense to those who are jealous and insecure, i just feel the responses will be more emotional.
My husband has been texting a female friend from his job excessively. By excessive i mean all day, throughout the day, every day. Not one day has gone by that they dont text since they've been friends (they've known each other for a long time because they were hired together about 5 years ago, but they've only been actual friends and have been texting since my husband moved to the same company district as hers--which has been since this August). I dont know if anyone else would define it as excessive, but to my standards I believe it is excessive.
It has become an issue with me because i believe that as a married couple, there are unwritten rules and appropriately established boundaries that should be followed when interacting with someone of the opposite sex. I have addressed this issue with my husband and have explained that it is inappropriate to text her on a constant and daily basis. every now and then is fine, but he cant go a day without texting her. He sees it as me being jealous and insecure. In addition I don't know his female friend very well, she is married and has her own children, i have met her and we have done couple's activities with her and her husband a few times. But my whole issue is boundaries and i feel that it is his responsibility to clearly draw the line and established appropriate boundaries with her when it comes to texting.
Lastly, me and my husband had a huge blowout just a couple of days ago because i had his phone and she text him (this was in the morning). I looked at the text and it was a page, she paged him with her number...when i confronted him he acted like he didnt know. instinctively i knew that the page was a code for something else...I finally got the truth out of him and he said she pages him in the morning and at night as a way to say good morning and goodnight...she does this everyday. Is this appropriate? am i being irrational and crazy to ask him to limit his texting within appropriate bounds? Why does his female friend feel the need to text page him every morning and every night? What i think about is what is missing in her life that she has to get my husbands attention?

Answer: In any relationship, there need to be boundaries. I don't think you're nuts or being irrational. This issue is important to you, therefore it should be important to him. Instead, he's manipulating the situation by making it your problem by belittling you and taking the focus off of what he's doing. I wonder what her husband thinks of all the texting. Just out of curiosity, how are they together when you've seen them together? In my own personal opinion, it sounds excessive. You didn't tell him to stop texting all together. It sounds like you're trying to be fair about it all. You're a stable, adult who deserves the utmost respect.
Question: What do you think of this supporter of illegals demands to city he demands special treatment? Gaudencio Fernandez recently put some demands on city officials and then didn't show up for a demonstration he said he had scheduled for the Fourth of July.
Fernandez, who regularly runs up against city ordinances with the signs he places at his property at 9500 Liberty Street in Old Town, recently told city officials that he was going to stage a march through town on Independence Day.
In a letter dated June 29 and received at the city clerk's office on June 30, Fernandez said he planned for 600 to 900 people to join the march between noon and 3 p.m.
City ordinance requires that groups gathering in town provide a security plan for the event. The city suggests that groups purchase insurance since the city won't be held responsible if someone gets hurt.
Fernandez stated in the letter that he would have 20 people to provide security, but that his group didn't have the money to hire a professional security agency or buy insurance for the event.
"We demand the city of Manassas provide the security needed for this event to guaranty (sic) our safety and safety of others. It is the responsibility of the city of Manassas,
Va. to guarantee our freedom of speech and safety throwout(sic) this event," Fernandez wrote in the letter. "The purpose of this march is to express our guaranteed constitutional rights as Native Americans, and we are looking for our opinions to be heard."
In another letter dated the same day, Fernandez stated that he would also need a permit for a sound system so he could show the movie "9500 Liberty Street" at his property during an event that was to last between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m.
He said he also had music and speeches planned for the day.
"We will conform with the standards permitted by code on noise regulations," Fernandez wrote in the letter.
Manassas Police Chief, Douglas W. Keen, responded to Fernandez's June 30 letters on July 1, saying that the city would waive the $100 fee to review Fernandez's security plan.
Keen's letter went on to say that marching between noon and 3 p.m. wasn't feasible because of previously scheduled Independence Day celebrations, including evening fireworks, in Old Town Manassas.
Keen authorized the march between 8:30 a.m. and noon along Center Street, Grant Avenue, Liberty Street, Liberia Avenue and Centreville and Wellington roads.
In answer to a previous request dated May 16, Keen offered Fernandez opportunities to hold his march between 3 and 7 p.m. on July 3 or July 5.
Keen did not grant Fernandez's request for a sound system, saying that was at the discretion of the City Council.
Keen wrote to Fernandez that the council would meet only once before the requested demonstration date and that left no time for city staff or council members to review the request.
"Your permit request does not provide sufficient information for staff to recommend approval, nor does it propose any conditions to minimize the public detriment caused by such exceptions," Keen wrote in the letter.
Keen also denied Fernandez's petition because there wouldn't be parking for 600 to 900 people given the crowds expected for the Fourth of July celebrations.
In the end, Fernandez and the demonstrators never showed up, said City Manager Lawrence D. Hughes.
The cost to have police officers man the intersections where the demonstrators would march hadn't yet been calculated, Hughes said.
"We spent a lot of time and had a lot of extra resources committed to being prepared and then nothing happened," Hughes said. "We spent a lot of time preparing for what he said he was going to do."
Fernandez said he couldn't reorganize the march during the hours Keen allowed.
"Mainly I was unable to comply with all of those requirements," Fernandez said.

Manassas officials intend to take legal action this week against the property owners of the Liberty Street sign supporting immigrants.
The owners, Delia Alvarez and Gaudencio Fernandez, received a letter from the city dated May 15 warning that they had 10 days to bring the sign and surrounding land into compliance with city codes and ordinances or Manassas officials would respond.
The owners failed to act.
Two violations are cited in the letter: one regarding the absence of a building permit and the other about trash on the property.
Manassas City Manager Lawrence D. Hughes said Tuesday that paperwork is being prepared and that the city intends to file the violation with General District Court by the end of the week. This will put Manassas in a second immigration-related suit. City officials are in litigation over a suit that the District-based Equal Rights Center filed about the city's efforts to combat crowding.
The legal journey the city is about to embark on concerns the 12-by-40-foot sign that denounces the way Manassas and Prince William County officials have treated immigrants in the community. The sign is on the only remaining wall of a mostly demolished house and has been up since September. Hughes said the owner was not breaking any codes when the sign was erected, and the issue was a matter of free speech. The sign, however, broke city codes when Fernandez "fortified" it without a building permit last fall, by constructing braces to keep the wall vertical.
The city's letter states that Fernandez received a "notice of violation" Nov. 6. Fernandez was told then -- and again recently -- that he needed a building permit to alter the structure or a demolition permit to take the wall down.
"The problem is you either have a building permit or you don't," Hughes said. "He had been advised to get a permit, and he didn't."
This month, Manassas residents questioned why the city has given Fernandez so much time to comply. Hughes said the city was being cautious and studying the balance of free speech and code violations.

Spiking of hair is not permitted. Bangs may not cover the eyebrows. It is to be considered a very neat and professional haircut.

No jewelry may be worn. However, religious medals or crosses on chains are permitted. Only girls may wear earrings - stud style, one per ear.
Gym Uniforms
All students in Grades 1 - 8 must wear school gym shorts and T-shirts, white socks, and sneakers (regular sneakers that tie). A small gym bag is recommended. ALL UNIFORMS AND BAGS MUST BE LABELED.
Grades 3 - 8 - Students carry clothes to school in the gym bag and change in the locker rooms. Parents are reminded it is the student’s responsibility to bring his/her gym uniform to school. If the gym uniform is forgotten, parents are not to bring it to the office or gym.

Question: Can my supervisor tell me that I can't take my full break? Basically I work full time and we are at work everyday for 8 1/2 hours and the 30 minutes is our unpaid lunch break.Whether we take a break or not, we still aren't getting paid for that 30 minutes. We don't "clock out" for lunch we just sign a log book when we leave and when we come back. My lunch break is from 5pm-5:30pm, however some days I am in the middle of working on something and I don't notice the time until a few minutes later, the latest ever after almost 3 years has been 6 minutes and that was on Monday. Well my supervisor came to me and told me that even if I don't start my lunch until a few minutes late I still HAVE TO come back at 5:30, thus not taking a full 30 minute break. I tried to tell her that it was against the law for me to not get a full 30 minute break, seeing as I don't get paid for that 30 minutes. She says that's its my responsibility to know what time it is and to make sure that I leave at exactly 5:00, to literally drop what I'm doing to make sure that I sign out at exactly 5 on the dot. I again tried to explain that if I'm working at all during my "break" then the time that I'm working doesn't count as break time. Then she started yelling(very unprofessional), so I nodded smiled said ok, sure and walked away. After about an hour I sent an email explaining what happened to my manager. Well today we had a meeting with the manager and she basically backed up what my supervisor had told me(just in a much more professional manner). Knowing that I was not going to get anywhere by talking to either of them, I smiled said ok and just have made sure that I pretty much stop working a few minutes early so that I can watch the clock and make sure that I sign out on time. Yes I work for the county, but I'm not in a union. And I can't plug in an alarm clock because we aren't allowed to plug in anything(not fans or heaters or anything, no matter how freaking hot or cold it gets because maintence won't ever change the temp.)
And my supervisor is always unprofessional! The other day someone on the morning shift had drawn pictures on some brown paper napkins and taped them to the shelf over the desk, and they were very childish looking. Anyone(Judges, police officers, etc) who come to the door to pick up warrants or ask us anything can see my desk. Well I took them down, trying to be professional. My supervisor comes over and starts yelling and asking why I touched them because they didn't belong to me and that they weren't bothering me(even though they were hanging in front of the computer screen)...blah blah blah! Gah!!! Don't ever work for the county, its more trouble than its worth!
We aren't allowed to have any kind of electronics at work, and we aren't allowed to change anything on the computers. And if I stop working too early I get in trouble for not working...catch 22 huh?
