Problems relating to pretrial discovery often are handled by a special master who schedules and coordinates discovery. Such procedure is necessary where one or both parties fail to comply with discovery requests, or when the parties can?t agree on appraisers a special master can make the selection. Note that the special master is not a judge -- his opinions carry weight, but not the final word.

Question: What are the requirements regain sole custody of a child in Wisconsin? I gave custody to my daughters grandparents (not my parents, but her father's whos not involved in her life) a few years ago so I could complete school. But now they don't want to give her back because they don't like me personally. Long story. Anyway, what requirements would I have to have in order to get her back? Legally. At this point the only thing they have against me is character, but technically they don't know me and have had no desire. I'm not an alcholoic or drug addict or anything of the type (and never have been). I'm actually kind of boring. So mostly they'd be making things up and going off of rumors. That kind of thing. Background: I gave them custody so I could go to school fulltime. I've taken her steadily every other weekend as was arranged originally (except on the weekends they decided I could because they were too busy or decided it as a "punishment"). Otherwise I'm more involved in her life then they'd like. I have a steady job (recently was promoted) and can provide just fine. All that basic stuff.

Answer: You need a lawyer, but you can start by contacting the child protective services in your area. They will do an investigation to see if the child will be better off with you than with the custodial family. I hope you have been involved in the child's life all along, its going to be tough to explain to them why you walked away, if you did, and now when its convenient for you, you want her back. they are the only parent your daughter knows, and I hope even if you get custody, you won't be cutting them out of her life because they don't like you. Make sure you can show the agency that you have a steady job and a place set up for the child to live, and provisions for caring for her when you are at work.
