Question: should a store clerk ask your social security number to put on a personal check? I wrote a personal check to a thrif store and the clerk asked for my social security number to put on my check. Is this normal?
What action do I need to take to stop any fraud? I just wrote the check yesterday and it is a local store.
Answer: No this is not normal. For a check to be "guaranteed" by a credible check processing company, all that is required is: Full name, Address, Telephone number, Correct date, D/L number, DOB, and and approval code. For them to ask for your SS#, they are requesting information that could quite possibly violate your identity and therefore open themselves up for liability.
I would contact theie parent company, request my check back, and offer another method of payment. Checks go through too many hands to risk your identity being sold or stolen.
Question: What does the average clerk in a hospital there make? I am trying to find out the average pay for a hospital clerk. Can anyone tell me what the average pay is and what the average person makes in this area.

The best source I can think of is the one I've pasted below. The salary scales are listed, but needless to say they are complicated.
Question: How does one get a job as a copy clerk at a paper such as the Chicago Tribune? So many newspaper reporters have gotten "in" by starting as a copy clerk. Do copy clerks even exist anymore? Do you have to know someone (in the typical Chicago style of cronyism and nepotism) in order to get a job as a copy clerk at the Trib? Excuse my ignorance, and thanks.
Answer: Mainly, the term Copy Clerks was used back in the 19th century when there wasn't any copying machines, if an office wanted to keep a copy of an outgoing letter, a clerk had to write out the copy by hand.
Nowadays, just about anyone can operate the modern day copiers. Likely, the Tribune does have several openings for a variety of positions. Check their job ads or send a resume.
Good luck.

Question: What can you tell me about a title clerk position at a car dealership? My wife works at the DMV she is growing extremly tired of the constant abuse she has to endure from a**hole customers. She has served title clerks at the counter and has had owners of dealerships say they need to hire somebody. The DMV being a state job has great benefits, but the B.S. makes it almost unbearable. What does a title clerk position pay and is it worth it to make the switch?
Answer: Title clerks at reputable car dealers get paid a lot better than state employees! The job can be high stress because customers lie, cheat, obscure, and diseminate to get car deals done! Title clerks have to do title searches sometimes in only minutes while the sales manager stands over their sholder rushing them so that they can make "one more sale today" PLUS if you boo boo at the DMV its s.o.p to just give the client another form to fill out and send them to the line again! If you mess up at a dealership most car dealers are TOTALLY unforgiving!

Question: what is the difference between an administrative assistant and an office clerk? I have been trying to apply to an administrative position but have only experience as a clerk and I haven't gotten too many call backs. So, just wondering if the two aren't similar with experience.
Answer: Office clerk is usually a person who does clerical work, like posting accounts receivable, vouchering accounts payable, posting to various journals of original entry such as asset books, sales journals, payroll books, time sheets, etc. An administrative assistant can be a secretary to a department head, executive secretary to any officer of the company or assistant to the sales manager who keeps the sales staff informed of upcoming events, meetings, seminars, etc.
Question: How can I convince a company to hire me as a billing clerk? How can I become a clerk? I am 50 years old and drive a truck, yet all I have ever wanted to do is
reside in a cubicle, and do billing clerk work. I love adminstrative tasks. How can I convince someone to hire me as a billing clerk? Are there schools which train for billing clerk positions?
Obviously I strongly believe I have the aptitude for it. Yet I feel lost about how to get a job of this
type.
Answer: Consider going to a community college in your spare time, and taking some classes. Look into getting Microsoft Word certified, and pick up some other certifications as well. Find out if the position has any other requirements, and make sure you match those as well. Talk to people that work as billing clerks in your current company, and find out what the job is like, and what the day-to-day duties of the job are like. If you do this, they'll know you are serious, and a bit later you can put yourself out there as a viable candidate for the position. If you have a good reputation in your current position, they should be willing to accommodate a lateral transfer.

Question: What is the personal liability for a payroll clerk - California? If the company has a vacation policy that the clerk knows to be illegal, is the clerk liable in any way. The clerk has told management about the illegal policy (a use-it-or-lose-it policy regarding vacation pay). The clerk processes payroll and calculates final pay.
If there is liability, what can/should be done to protect against a lawsuit?
If there isn't likely to be personal responsibility, can the person inform a former employee of their wages that were legally theirs? If they don't want to tell the employee but the employee asks them if it was legal, what can they say?
Good to know there is no personal liability. I was afraid that final pay calculation would mean it was the person's decision not to pay out the time off and therefore their call. (the time off has been called 'floating holidays' but is taken at the employee's discretion and with no restrictions - the state doesn't care what its called, its earned wages if its treated the same as vacation... there currently is no written policy on this, the company just decided to offer it and told everyone they had to use it or lose it.)
Going out of the way to inform an ex-employee would be a sticky situation and probably not worth the hassle. What if the employee asks about it? Does the clerk have to tell them?
Answer: there is no personal liability, if the company has a policy that violates the law the company is held accountable NOT an individual pay-roll clerk who is simply following the companies policies..
the payroll clerk needs to follow the company policy, if the payroll clerk thinks the policy is illegal then after discussing it with the company that person should contact the state and ask that they investigate. although a blatant "use-it-or-lose-it" policy is illegal, the employer can set contraints on how vacation is earned, redeemed/used and can limit how much vacation may be earned regardless of time on the job.
for information about vacation pay in Califronia see:
http://www.dir.ca.gov/dlse/FAQ_Vacation.…
the payroll clerk should NOT get involved with this other then expressing a concern to the employer and then notifying the appropriate regulatory agency. the payroll clerk could be terminated for failing to follow the companies policy if that clerk was to contact an ex-employee......
although the payroll clerk probably would be vindicated in the end, it could take a lot of time, and may make finding employment, in the same position, with another employer, extremely hard to do.........
