Answer: I like the suggestion that Carmel made about sleep overs. I think cohabitation is a good thing. It allows you to see what the other persons habits are (good or bad). Then you can decide whether you can deal with those habits and whether you both can coexist. I highly recommend cohabitation before marriage. However, others may not agree.

Question: cohabitation? if you are divorced and are living with someone else is this cohabitation even if no bills are together

Answer: Think it may vary from State to State. I am paying alimony to my wife and she has this guy who lives with her and they won't count that because he nothing in his name.

I live in Michigan too, and I know of lots of people who cohabitate. It is hardly ever prosecuted anymore, and is under consideration for being repealed, but it is still technically illegal.

Answer: I live in Michigan and have never heard that cohabitation is illegal. I know many who do it, you just cannot do it and then say you are married if you aren't.

I'm only interested in legal and financial issues related to the marriage contract in Texas. Why should I consider marriage over cohabitation that incorporates wills, powers-of-attorney, business partnerships, or some combination of other legal and financial solutions?

Answer: You should consider the marriage thing because then you are taken care of in the laws eyes. Insurance, alimony, Social Security benefits if the partner dies. Your kids are covered then too. If you culd care less about these things, then don't get married. It's really up to you.

Question: How do the Japanese feel about cohabitation? Just wondering how the Japanese feel about unmarried couples living together. I'm especially curious about how the younger Japanese (30s and under) view cohabitation and the people who do it. Do they feel that people in Western societies have too lax of an attitude toward living together before marriage? How many young unmarried Japanese couples live together? Is it common, or really rare?

Answer: It's less common than in Western countries. But some couples do it. 30 or 50 years ago, it was really rare to see couples living together before marriage. But now more couples do it. I don't know exactly how many of young couples live together. But I guess it's somewhere between 5-20%. I just want to ask you how many of them are doing it in your country. As for how Japanese people see Western couples living together, I think we see it as "It's another nation, another culture after all". Even kissing or hugging in public are not common in Japan. So like them, living together by Western people is seen just as different culture.

Question: Are there any muslim countries in the Middle East that allow cohabitation? I would like to teach in the Middle East, but I am currently living with my girlfriend who is from Korea. I've heard that cohabitation is strictly prohibited in Muslim countries. Does anyone know if there are any countries in the Middle East that would allow me to live freely with my girlfriend?

Answer: None allow it, it is illegal. But Lebanon tends to turn a blind eye.

Answer: You're absolutely right. I think a couple should try living together before getting married because sometimes problems start when two people begin living in the same house, sharing the same bed etc. It's better to know this before going down the aisle.

Question: Now that marriage is dying, when do you think that cohabitation catch up? Governments are passing laws to make cohabitation similar to marriage and so men are starting to not want to even live with a woman as well.

Answer: Certainly the understanding of what constitutes a "Family Unit" has been blown out of the water, and has been somewhat superseded by other descriptors such as "primary carer" and the like. It is not necessarily a bad thing, but it does hark back to our tribal beginnings, where less men contributed to the gene pool. Mind you, most of the world is not monogamous, some 80% of societies, I think are polygynous, where men have more than one wife, in theory. It is also not unusual for people in western sociey to have children with more than one partner, in serial monogamous relationships. Unfortunately today is seems like the larger number of children are being born to ignorant, irresponsible men (and women). If you can find it, watch the movie "Idiocracy" to see this brought to its exaggerated conclusion. .

Im receiving workmans comp widow benefits for the rest of my life or until i remarry. i dont want to forfiet my benefits but also dont want to be alone forever. i want my boyfriend to move in but dont know the law in oklahoma on cohabitation. my paper work just says marriage would stop the benefits??

Answer: As long as you don't refer to the other person as a spouse or enter into a common law marriage, or describe yourself as married in any legal form, you should be ok. Money isn't everything; sometimes love matters more

Answer: No I don't believe in it. You're either willing to commit or you're not. Relationships don't fail because you get married. They fail because one or both partners stop trying to make it work!........and then blame it on the sacrament of marriage! That's a cop out!

Answer: advantage of marriage: entitled to spousal benefits don't have to go out looking for sex can collect social security & pension entitled to 50% if divorce advantage of cohabitation: cheaper to get out of it than paying for a divorce

She is seeking it on the grounds that we have been apart for just over a year. I still desire our marriage to be reconciled. Answer: .It means no interruption in the living apart. If you get back together (live together), even briefly, the separation has to start all over again when you go back to living apart.

Answer: no it's not bad and there are many reasons it may rise

Question: How common is cohabitation in Korea and will it ever be accepted? One of my friends is a Korean dentist and he insists that it doesn't exist.

Answer: It exists. There are many foreigners in Korea that live together as couples unmarried. Although that it is not widely accepted or talked about, it does happen a lot under the radar with Koreans as well. Also getting married after having a child is something that is increasing in Korea as well which is also thought to be Taboo. My friend your dentist buddy is what we westerners call "living in denial".

Answer: I live in Illinois USA, I am 46, married and Catholic. Cohabitation is becoming increasingly more common here. Years ago, it was taboo and gave a woman a terrible reputation, and her children a bad name. Many couples who did not live together "had to get married" (societal and family pressure) because they "got caught" (unplanned, unwed pregnancy) With divorce ending around 50% of the marriages here, many couples are now choosing to cohabitate, because as well as being emotionally damaging to the individuals, divorce is financially devastating, often costing thousands of dollars and sometimes up to two years of time. There is not so much pressure from society to marry as there was years ago. The church is maintaining it's stance on marriage and family, but offers a blessing at communion time instead of the body and blood, to those not in accordance with the churches teachings. I would rather my daughters lived with a man rather than marrying the unknown. My husband does not agree, he is old school spanish. I became an abused wife by jumping into marriage, had I not married, I could have escorted the bum to the door after the first punch he gave me. my daughters are 19 and 20 , virgins who live at home. They are waiting for the right man. And marriage eventually when they are sure they are safe and loved.

There are already many many couples cohabiting and having children out of wedlock, because the man does not believe in marriage and the number keeps increasing. Why so dome women keep getting feisty at men who say how they want to cohabit instead of getting married. "What does coexistence's mean? is it a word?" I am not surprised the question does not make sense to you XD .

Answer: it is very common in Australia perhaps it's a cultural thing in America - the rest of the world think you guys are pretty nutty and bogged down in a lot of bible belt dogma.

Question: Buying a house together: What should the cohabitation agreement include? My boyfriend and I (and our son) are closing on our first home in a month. We will be drawing up a contract with our lawyer to address issues that might come about if we break up, monthly contributions, etc. What should this contract include?

Answer: The property will probably increase considerably in value in the future. So let's say you break up and one party wants to stay and the other wants to cash out. You can not sell half a house so you need to come up with how to value the property at that time and how the party that stays can buy out the party that want to leave.

Question: What are the advantages/disadvantages of marriage (as opposed to cohabitation)? What are the advantages of getting married as opposed to not getting married and cohabiting? Thanks.

Answer: Advantages: -You know you have someone by your side all the time. -You can feel more secure in a marriage because there is just not "ending" things. -If your spouse is in the hospital or passes away, you have legal rights, whereas if you are just cohabitating you have NO legal rights. Disadvantages: -If you want to end the relationship, you need a Judge's permission.

Question: What can man get in marriage, that he does not get in cohabitation, that justifies the risk of going through? a ruinous divorce ? Answer: Men who are capable of HUMAN feeling (something you clearly are incapable of grasping) often fall in love, and want to create a family by making a permanent, legal commitment to the person they love. It's not always about "what can I GET from this" among humans. Nor does anyone have to JUSTIFY their decisions about their own lives.
