Foreign Order

A court order issued by a state court in the United States other than Alaska, or a court of another country. For example, a child custody order from California is a foreign order in Alaska.

Question: What are the odds of a US court refusing to register a foreign support order? If you can prove the foreign country did not have jurisdiction over you then will US courts consider that? Example mother takes child out of country, child is US citizen, mother goes into hiding w/child for over 15 yrs and obtains support order without other parents knowledge then comes after the other parent for back support.

Answer: This is TRULY an issue for a lawyer. However, since you did not waive personal jurisdiction to this foreign country and the child being a US citizen means a US court has jurisdiction, your chances look good.
