Prejudice
A legal term which means to injure or damage someone's rights by some legal action. (For example, the term can be used like this: The plaintiff is not prejudiced by the court's decision to allow the defendant to testify by telephone.) It can also mean a final and binding decision that stops further prosecution of the same cause of action. For example, a judge can dismiss a case with prejudice. This means you can't bring a new lawsuit based on the same subject again. When a judge dismisses a case without prejudice, it usually means that the court didn't issue a decision on the merits which leaves the parties free to litigate the matter in a later case. In that situation, none of the rights or privileges of the person involved are lost or waived. In other words, the person can bring the case again.
Question: prejudice!!!? What is some prejudice in Hannah from the book the Witch of Blackbird pond! I need three examples from the book! When was she prejudices? If Hannah wasnt really who else?? I need your help pleez!!!! Thankz!!!
Answer: Lol, this should be in homework help =) You'll just have to read the book to find out. You'll be looking for things that aren't known directly by the character, but thinks that its true of all races. E.G. In the hobbit, the dwarves think that all of the elves are naive and kinda dumb without knowing if that is completely true.
Question: Prejudice? I am working on a research paper on prejudice. Specifically Prejudice between poor and rich. Any useful links? or ideas?
Answer: I find it sad that so far the majority of the answers don't address the main question you asked. Once again people have used a platform to address something other than the question that was posed. I think there will always be some prejudice concerning the different economic classes. I feel this is partly caused by some wealthy people truly believing that more money makes you a better person and some poor people being jealous of what wealthy people have. The truth is there are good and bad qualities on both sides. In judging people completely on their financial worth, race, religion or whatever, without getting to know them first, you could be missing out on dealing with some pretty cool people.
I will now step down off my soap box. Peace!
Question: What steps to reduce prejudice would you offer the US President in dealing with Iraq's restoration from war? Prejudice - a negative attitude toward people who belong to a specific social group.
Suppose you work for the UN and you are trying to develop peaceful ways warring groups can come together to overcome prejudice. What steps would you tell the US President concerming Iraq? How would you reduce prejudice there?
Answer: First of all he(Barak) has to keep all those promises to the Arab world that he pledge during presidential campaign and the Cairo policy address and then it will be easy for him to remember all his personal approach to deal with the prejudice on his very own skin color-for that matter identity.no bomb attached my dear!
Question: What is the word for having a prejudice against someone based upon personal experiences? It might be a prejudice but I think prejudice may be something that is more a preconcieved view. What if you don't have any pre-conceived views or prejudices against certain people but then when you encounter and have experiences with them, you find that you don't like them because of the way they act towards you and find other people in that group very simliar and based upon those personal experiences you don't like them.
Is the correct word prejudice or is there another word?
Answer: Dislike.
Question: What is the difference between discrimination and prejudice? I have to write an essay for my sociology class. My topic is Discrimination vs. Prejudice. What is the difference in the two?
Also, I need some examples or something of each. Maybe some historical events that were shaped by one of the two.
Some examples I already have are:
The Holocaust
Civil War/Slavery
and since I'm not sure of the difference between discrimination and prejudice, I don't know which of the examples I have fit under discrimination and which fit under prejudice.
Basically, I need help. (:
Thanks so much!

Question: What is the difference and smililties between prejudice and discrimination? What is the difference and smililties between prejudice and discrimination?
What do you think about prejudice and discrimination?
What do you think what causes prejudice and discrimination?
?
Have you been prejudiced?
Answer: The word "prejudice" has negative connotations, whereas "discrimination" doesn't necessarily imply that something is amiss with that person's moral code. Discrimination CAN be positive.
For example, if someone were to say that they have "discriminating taste", it's assumed that the person is saying that they have a preference for one thing over another based on experience; and we should thusly give them respect for their opinions, which may or may not be more cultured than our own.
In that sense, "discrimination" can be a positive thing. "Prejudice", however, always implies a negative attitude.
Heh. This question actually reminds me of a poorly-translated English sign that I once saw on a noodle house in Fukuoka, Japan. The sign was probably trying to communicate that by eating there, you were an obvious noodle connoisseur who appreciates some good udon when you see it. The translation that they went with, however, was something to the tune of: "We make finest noodles of your prejudice." Lost in translation indeed.
Question: What is the difference between prejudice and being judgmental? I have to do an essay for English on the book The Chrysalids and how the society is judgemental, prejudice and rule-oriented. I need two examples for each. So, first of all, what is the difference between prejudice and judgemental? I can't tell the difference! And, if you have read the book, what would be two instances or examples for each of the three umbrella terms?
Answer: being judgemental is judging people based on the decisions they make, and being prejudice is judging people based on things they can't change

Answer: He led the fight against Apartheid
Question: What do you call somebody who is prejudice against homosexuals? Im just wondering because i can't find it anywhere on google. Like you call people who are prejudice because of skin color racist or sex sexist. So what do you call someone whos prejudice against homosexuals?
Answer: How about a general word for all of the categories, "bigot."
If you want an exact word, it doesn't come as an "-ist" but you can say "homophobic" for those fearful of homosexuals. Often a homophobic will discriminate against them.
Maybe a gender discriminator would be a word you could glue together.
Question: What are your views regarding prejudice towards old people? And is this prejudice equal between men and women in the country where you live?
Answer: I think there seems to be a bit of ambivalence towards older people because of their declining health and thus, related issues in the community.
However, as a student of aged care studies myself, and having been in hospital for some time in neuro wards (filled with "older people"), i have found they are not any less like anyone else. It is indeed a shame that society judges the elderly in a negative way, when they are the keepers of history and knowledge. Elderly people have so much to share with the world... if we'd only listen!
I think the prejudice against the elderly is more generational than gender-based. The younger tend to be less compassionate... but the BIG 'uh oh' with the elderly and also with disabled people is business men and women - probably the worst sort as far as inconsiderate and unaccommodating goes.
Question: What are the emotional and psychological consequences of prejudice? What are the emotional and psychological consequences of prejudice? Give examples. What can be done to reduce prejudice?
Answer: emotionaly: depression
psychological: dehumanization. And dehumanization is the ultimate evil because it kills the soul
another effect would probablly be genocide
what can be done to reduce prejudice? nothing(well to solve youd have to have to make everyone a robot pretty much)
Question: What are the causes of racial and ehnic prejudice and discrimination? What are the social consequences of continued prejudice and discrimination in America? How can prejudice and discrimination be reduced?
Answer: The causes of it are poor education. If your parents are racist, the odds of you becoming racist are higher than they would be if you're parents weren't racist. It can be reduced if people would educate themselves on different cultures, travel, and think for themselves. Parents aren't ALWAYS right.
Question: What form of prejudice and discrimination is human trafficking? I can write a paper on anything, however, it has to be about prejudice and discrimination. I was wondering if someone can narrow it down for me on how human trafficking is related to prejudice or discrimination.
Answer: Human trafficking is about money. I guess you could stretch it to argue that those who engage in it consider those they're enslaving to be inferior because of their race or national origin, but really it's because they don't care and they want the money.
Question: How can someone complain about being the victim of prejudice while being prejudice against others? Hypocrisy? Most people who see this question will automatically assume that I am only referring to race, but you can be prejudice against a person for a lot of other reasons.
Answer: Its just life and its part of being human.
We are all imperfect
Question: what is sexual prejudice in to kill a mockingbird? i need 3 to 4 sentence about this.
my subject is sexual prejudice. and i have no clue what is sexual prejudice in the novel.
Answer: Scout is told to be more girly by Aunt Alexandria. The prejudice is against women and girls. It's the stereo type for women to wear dresses, don't swear and to not get dirty and be clean. Good luck:)
I just finished the movie and I read the book at school.
Question: How similar is the new Pride and Prejudice movie to the original Jane Austin novel? You know how movies usually take things out? What did the 'Pride and Prejudice' with Keira Knightley take out, if anything? I've seen the movie 1000 times and was just assigned to read the book for school, should I even bother reading it since I already knew/know the movie so well?
Answer: Compared to the book, the 2005 movie is broader in its satire, and also somewhat abridged. They have also moved some of the scenes to different locales. But the movie will give you a general idea of the story and characters.
Understanding literature is not just about knowing the story, though. You need to read the book to see how Jane Austen conveys her ideas, and get a feel for her language. You will also learn a few new things about the characters and English society of the period along the way.
Question: Can someone please tell me about the prejudice and the economy during the British slave trade? I'm writing a paper about William Wilberforce and i am suppose to address the prejudice and then the economy. And im having difficulties finding information. Thanks so much!
Answer: Rent the movie Amazing Grace. From the moment Wilberforce introduced the anti-slavery issue, it was not a matter of prejudices he had to over come so much as an economic issue. Without the slave trade, the economy would collapse. They relied heavily on it. Rent the movie, though. It's amazing.
Question: What can young people do to prevent prejudice, discrimination, and violence in this world today? It seems there is little our future generations will be able to do, to prevent prejudice, discrimination, and violence from happening. With all that is going on in our world today, how can they learn to combat these evils?
Answer: It is fun to watch children, 1-5 years old, on a play ground.
There is not color differentiations, just a friend to play on the swing, sand box, see saw, slide etc..
If everyone was color blind, would we still be prejudicial?
Question: How can you tell the difference between prejudice and just plain rudeness? I'm puzzled about wether extremely rude people in service jobs are usually rude to everyone, or if they're more rude to some people because of prejudice. For example last time I went to visit my parents who are around 70 in British Columbia, there were several rude and very disrespectful service people. I wonder if they don't like old people, or because we have native blood, or some people are just jerks to everyone or what. I'm living in a small town where most people are freindly, so it kind of floored me.
Answer: Very good question. It doesnt just happen with service people but I know it happens a lot with them. As far as I'm concerned, prejudice is rude-so there really isnt much difference. I've observed people in the workplace and they seem to treat everyone the same. They are consistently rude-if that's a good thing.
Question: What is the effect of prejudice on society when both positive and negative kinds are considered? I wish to seperate prejudice as a whole into two distinct types: pointing out negative or undesirable qualities and pointing out positive ones, all based on a stereotype. IF there were EQUAL amounts of both how would it affect society in general? Would it matter if the prejudice is inaccurate?
Answer: Any form of pre-judging an indvidual
is unfair and bound to be inaccurate.
no matter a prejudice is based on I
believe it's wrongand promotes the
kind of mind-set we should be moving
away from. When all race-feeling has been
overcome the world will enter into the peaceful times prophecied about in the Bible.
