Question: Is it possible to get a visa card in canada if im under majority age? I want to get a visa card of some kind so i can spend it online..i have money saved up but i just never use it cuz i dun have anything to buy at the mall or anything. i wanna buy stuff online but paypal wont accept my debit card. they accept visa though but im under majority age. 19 in my province.
Answer: Well, you just admitted that you're under the majority age for your province/territory, so I think it's highly unlikely that you would be approved for a credit card. Other than your time, there's nothing to lose by trying to apply for a credit card, either through your bank or a more generic company (such as MBNA Canada).
Added: This is what I found in the FAQ section of MBNA Canada's web site: "To apply for a card, you must have reached the age of majority in your province of residence and be a Canadian resident." So, I think you'll have to wait a bit longer, sorry.

What is the purpose of some states having the age of majority at 21, what is the reason why the do this it doesnt do anything if they get arrested they dont get charged as a child. So whats the purpose ? Why not just make it 18
Answer: The age of majority is, for all intents and purposes, 18 in every state except Alabama and Nebraska, where it is 19. There are a few legal rights that most states withhold until 21, but legal majority, including the right to vote, to enter into contracts, to leave their parents' home, to do just about anything, occurs at 18 or 19 everywhere in the country.
Question: Pros and cons of lowering the age of majority to 16? I need pros and cons of lowering the age of majority to 16. Thanks ツ.
Answer: Cons: we have a bunch of drunk 16 year olds running around with unlimited adult power
Pros: none except some 16 year olds may be happy about it
age of majority is the age you are considered a legal adult, very very few 16 year olds are mature enough to handle that responsibility, especially since theyve still got 2 years of high school to go. theyre brains arent even fully developed. im 18 and im still completely against lowering the age of majority because i know from experience that 99.9% of 16 year olds are not ready for that kind of freedom and responsibility.
Question: Age of majority and moving between state line? When I turn 18 in California, I am legally considered an adult. Let's say I live and function as an adult for a year, and then decide to move interstate, into another state where the age of majority is 21, like New York or Mississippi.
Will I revert to a minor in such a case? Will binding contracts I sign as an adult in other states be void? What will happen?
Or, will I automatically be emancipated? If not, will it be easy to apply for emancipation in such a situation?
Answer: The age of majority is 18 in New York too. It is 21 in Mississippi only for certain limited purposes. (Primarily marriage without parental consent) You can be held to a contract at 18 in any State.

Question: Does a custodial investment account have to be transferred upon reaching the age of majority? In most states, the age of majority is 21 and that is when the custodian of the account can transfer ownership, but I'm wondering if that is required by law or if it is optional. In other words, is it possible to avoid capital gains tax by leaving the account as a custodial account. If the custodian dies, then the minor would have to get a court order to obtain ownership and then would have to pay capital gains tax then, correct?
Answer: First, the minor on a custodial account is the owner. The custodian is just holding the account for his or her benefit. There is no ownership change at age 21 or upon the death of the custodian. The death of the custodian or the age of majority of the owner are not taxable events. They have no impact on basis and do not cause gains to be realized.
Second, once the minor attains age 21, he or she has control of the account. Whether you will be required to change the titling at that time will but up to the custodian, but it should be changed. Even if it is not changed, the child has complete rights to the account.
Practically, some parents do nothing, keep receiving statements and do not tell the child about the account. In so doing, they keep effective control for a bit longer. However, that is probably illegal even if the intent is benign. This strategy has become less effective with some custodians since they have monitored this and forced registration changes which can require the child to sign forms alerting him or her to the existence of the account.
However, none of this is a taxable event.

I remember in a canadian law book I read that if a person that is age of majority but attends post-secondary, then their parents are still responsible for him if he is not able to support himself (and in many cases that peson really isn't able to do that because he is studying full-time). Is that true here in BC, Canada?
