Forced Marriage
A forced marriage is a marriage that is performed under duress and without the full and informed consent or free will of both parties.
Question: Forced Marriage? How can someone consider themselves to be a good and loving parent and then do this to one of thier children.
I am western and can just about understand how an arranged marriage may be considered beneficial provided both of the people to be married have met beforehand, got to know each other and decided for themselves that they wish to marry.
What I can't accept is a parent forcing a child into a marriage they do not want. How can this ever be considered anything but abuse.
Also how can someone marry a person who dosn't want to be with them, probabley hates them and whos life they will probably ruin by marrying them.
Answer: It's a cultural thing... you don't have to accept it, they do. Let them do as they see fit. If you want to change it, you will have to change their entire way of thinking and I doubt you will ever be able to do that.

Question: Is anyone out there a child of parents who were forced to marry by an arranged marriage? I am in my forties and still have huge issues with my parents arranged/forced marriage. It has devasted my mom and I now deal with the aftermath everyday.
Answer: Not me but have relatives. Neither they nor their children seem to suffer.
But some marriages do not go well, as can be love-marriages.
Your parents should not insist in you about this. But if they do;
1- If you have someone you love and want to marry, tell them that you have someone and introduce her/him to them.
2- If you do not have someone, meet with the girl/boy they want you to marry. Who knows may be he/she is the one you are looking for. If you do not like her/him tell the reasons to your parents.
Question: forced marriage? Ive been kinda waiting for my boyfriend to ask me to marry him, but I dont want to press the issue. I feel like he is just taking the ride. Lots of women tell me that I have to stay on him about it, but I dont feel that is my responsibility. If I keep begging him, it will spoil the surprise. Another thing, I am in charge of the finances. how can he get me a ring without me knowing it? How do we do that?
Answer: Woah! Steady on missus!
Why not just enjoy your relationship for what it is rather than focusing on when he is/isn't going to pop the question?
Don't set yourself up for a fall, he may never propose - then what are you going to do?
My advice? Less "life mapping" and more "go with the flow", if it's meant to be it will happen, no amount of hoping or persuasion will twist his arm if he really isn't the marrying kind.
If he wants to marry you, I'm sure you'll be the first to know - when the time is right!
Question: PLEASE help:Is anyone out there a child of parents who were forced to marry by an arranged marriage? I am 22 years old and still have huge issues with my parents arranged/forced marriage .hell...i just can't take it anymore....i am unemployed too .Now i can't handle this pressure.i am indian.I am trying to find a in aviation industry .
should i go for an arranged marriage or wait?
Answer: hi im indian too. i strongly believe do what u think is right. i was forced to get married when i was 18 but i didn't and i moved out wif my bf instead and i've been wif him for the last six years.
in the process i think i've hurt my parents alot and alothough i know i did the right thing by me i still regret hurting them. i could say just sit down and talk to them but chances are they won't understand tell them what's on ur mind anyway.
at this day and age you don't have to get married young and if u prefer to be single go for it. get a job see the world and when ur ready to settle down then make that choice.
marriage life has a lot of pressure and ur talking in a lot like in laws and babies and all that so do it when ur ready and not when ur parents think ur ready. if ur only gonna do it for them u will regret it and neva truly be happy. it's ur life so respect ur parents but do what u feel is right by u.
Question: When most forced marriage work then why is it illegal is sum places? Most forced marriage of the forced arranged, shotgun weeding and general forcedsort actually work very well. Many people learn to love each other later on or don't bother and have a good life together any way.
So why is it illegal in some places? I am aware that sometimes the person may be in love with someone else or hates the person that they are being forced into marrying, but these faults can be worked on after marriage or they might decide to have a open marriage later on.
The only bad thing about forced marriage is human trafficking and the domestic abuse found in these marriage. Other than that what are the negative aspects of such marriage that i don't know about
Answer: WOMEN'S LIB!
Question: What does the Bible say about forced marriage? and mail order brides? Where does it specifically mention forced marriage?
Answer: Duteronomy 22:28-29 If a man find a damsel that is a virgin, which is not betrothed, and lay hold on her, and lie with her, and they be found;
29 Then the man that lay with her shall give unto the damsel's father fifty shekels of silver, and she shall be his wife; because he hath humbled her, he may not put her away all his days.
Question: In which countries is forced marriage legal? am doing a presentation on marriage rights and forced marriage. i know that it is illegal in the UK but was wondering where it IS legal. correct answers needed asap :)
Answer: Your problem is going to be defining a forced marriage. Where does an arranged marriage (perfectly legal, happens all the time - even Prince Charles did it) become a forced marriage?
Is is where the couple did not meet? Nope, nothing illegal about marrying someone you have never met.
Is it where a girl is locked into her room until she agrees to marriage? Nope, it is the imprisonment and/or kidnapping that is illegal.
Actually, a forced marriage is invalid not illegal. But one party or the other has to declare that they were forced to marry for the marriage to be annulled.
You could argue that an arranged marriage becomes a forced marriage when a girl is too young to be able to make a reasoned choice.
Until very recently, girls from wealthy families in every country in the world including the USA and UK were commonly told by their families who they were to marry. Girls were considered chattels to be bought and sold. Often the only women able to marry for love were poor girls and wealthy widows and the poor girls often had to make do with a common law marriage rather than an official contract.
Countries where girls commonly marry very young? Parts of Africa, much of the Muslim world and extremist sects in all countries especially America. Child brides are supposed to be illegal in India but still exist.
Question: What movie am I thinking of? Humanoid dinosaurs, forced marriage, love potion, time travel? I can't remember much about it, but I think it saw it on network television a few times maybe ten years ago. The details are super vague in my head. I think it involved time travel and a scene I remember involved a lady who was being forced to marry some creature and being given a love potion beforehand and she has these like humanoid dinosaurs as bridesmaids and she is rescued before the wedding. Any idea?
Answer: This reminds me of "Babes in Toyland"

Answer: Lady Jane (1986)
starring Helena Bonham Carter, Cary Elwes, John Wood, Michael Hordern, Jill Bennett, Jane Lapotaire, Patrick Stewart, Joss Ackland
IMDb synopsis:
The death of King Henry VIII throws his kingdom into chaos because of succession disputes. His weak son Edward, is on his deathbed. Anxious to keep England true to the Reformation, a scheming minister John Dudley marries off his son, Guildford to Lady Jane Grey, whom he places on the throne after Edward dies. At first hostile to each other, Guildford and Jane fall in love. But they cannot withstand the course of power which will lead to their ultimate downfall.
TRIVIA:
Cary Elwes is related to both Guilford Dudley and Lady Jane Grey on his father's side. Because Dudley and Grey never had children, Elwes is the direct descendant to Dudley and Grey's siblings: Mary Dudley, Guilford's sister, and Katherine Grey, Jane's sister, who was also the wife of Edward Seymour.
The film portrays Jane as a dark-eyed, dark-haired girl when in actuality, Lady Jane Grey was very fair with blond hair and light eyes. She was described as very pleasant-looking except for her freckles, which were considered unbecoming on a young lady at the time.
In reality, Lady Jane and Guilford Dudley barely knew each other and were not together during their imprisonment. // Obviously, history shouldn't stand in the way of a tragic love story.

should i go for an arranged marriage or wait?
Answer: You think you have it bad??? I am 26 years old and they still will not get off my back. I am Indian too. I obviously am waiting mainly because I just cant marry someone I've never really met or hung out with before and secondly because I am still studying and trying to launch my career. Unlike you, I am employed so at least I get away from all that BS for a good 10hrs a day (I do feel for you).
I say wait and fight for what you want. They really cant make you do something you dont want to do. If you do go ahead and give in, imagine the dreams you are giving up... dreams that you actually convert into reality!! And you dont even have pointless dreams and goals... trying to get into the aviation industry is pretty big! WAIT!!!
Question: Do you know any plays that deal with arranged or forced marriage? I'm writing an essay around this and would be grateful of any suggestions.

Question: help:::Is anyone out there a child of parents who were forced to marry by an arranged marriage? should i go for an arranged marriage or wait?
Answer: Just because your parents had an arranged marriage doesn't mean that you should. Yes you would be breaking tradition, but personal happiness is more important that tradition. Lots of people have found their own partners in life and they didn't do it through arranged marriages.
You just have to take your time in getting to know someone and deciding if they are for you. As for a job, it helps to be independent. Whoever controls your money, controls your destiny. Its just the truth. Its best to be independent in life even if you do find mr. right. Its just good to have peace of mind, knowing that you have your own money.

The Forced Marriage (Civil Protection) Act 2007 will give courts the power to stop forced marriages."

Answer: The way women's rights are violated in the name of political correctness and fear of "offending" other cultures is ridiculous and coward. If people want to immigrate into a Western country they have to accept human rights and women's rights, no excuses. By the way, do you think that in their countries of origin people and governments are so understanding of other cultures? I wouldn't like to try to find out myself.
Question: Spiritually speaking; I live in Canada and am being forced into a gay marriage. Who wants me? The ceremony has been set by the government for next week, but I need to decide which place of worship will be forced to perform the ceremony. If possible, I'd like it to be catholic, but anything will satisfy the "one religious gay marriage per person" law.
Answer: I'm not gay, but if that's your real hand: sure.
Just name the date and place, and I'll be there.
