The Spanish and Latin American ideal of women being modest, restrained, virtuous, and nurturing. Women are expected to be sexually abstinent before marriage and passive in response to their husbands' demands after marriage. Women are expected to have sexual intercourse only with their husbands. "Marianismo" comes from the Virgin Mary, whose life women are encouraged to emulate as a model of "proper" femininity. See machismo.
Question: What is Marianismo? How is it relevant to Machismo?
Please provide sources.
Answer: I think is the female version of machismo...
Question: In what ways has the term "macho" been adopted by women and feminized? When we hear this word macho we usually associate it with excess "negative/dominant" masculine behavior flaunting excessive virility and flirting on the borders of chauvinism. The counterpart to machismo is known as marianismo which is pretty much the complete opposite in relation to excessive "submissive" femininity.
So with some of today's modern women and some feminists have they really given in to their inner machismo? The very quality they couldn't stand in men but then applied it to themselves via all forms of empowerment (maternal, professional, legal etc).
We always hear that a guy is embracing his "feminine side" whenever he exhibits tenderness or behaviors traditionally classified as feminine which is a bit silly so on the flip side.........what's up with all these macho women?
Answer: Serena Williams
Question: What is marianismo????????? What is the term? Why is it used? How did it affect woman?
I heard machismo and marianismo are not the same? is it true... also can you please add sources....
Answer: Marianismo is the feminine version of machismo. Latin American women are expected to exemplify marianismo, and men machismo.
Marianismo emphasizes purity and moral strength. Part of marianismo is requiring women to be virgins when they marry.
