Parallel Cousin
One's father's brother's children or mother's sister's children. The gender of the children is not relevant in making this distinction. With matrilineal or patrilineal descent, parallel cousins are members of the same lineage. See cross cousin.
Question: why is matrilineal parallel cousin marriage forbidden? In a matrilineal society.?
Answer: Because your cousins are considered to be your siblings. Your cross cousins or patrilineal cousins are not
Question: What are the different types of cousins? I understand what first cousin, double cousins, parallel cousins, and cross cousins. What is it called when you share a single grandparent, instead of a pair of grandparents?
I would think it be similar to "half-sibling".
Answer: Half cousin, but only a genealogist being technical (or settling a bet) would use the term.
I know a family whose children are President John Adams' half first cousins, seven times removed.
Question: Who didn't pass their driver's license test the first time because of parallel parking? My cousin didn't pass her driver's test because the first thing they made her do is parallel parking. But she didn't do her parallel parking right. Did you have pass experiences like this?
Answer: My first driver's exam I failed because of tapping a cone. In Ohio the parallel parking "exam" you pull through a box of cones, and then either the right or left of a cone (examiner's choice) and then back through the box (this simulates parallel parking). They have this big sticks sticking out of the top of the cones to represent the cones as solid objects. I hit one of the sticks with my mirror, and the examiner failed me. The driving exam actually had a box specifically for what I did, which wouldn't be an automatic failure, but the examiner failed me anyway. I remember being so pissed off at that old lady.
Now 16 years later (I'm 32) I teach people how to drive for a living, so I guess what comes around goes around. As mortifying as the experience is, mainly due to the excitement of getting your license, then failing; she'll muddle through and pass it on her next try and her life will amazing go on, and she can look back and tell other people not to worry in 16 years. ;)
Question: in India is marriage between parallel cousins accepted? ie bro-bro children are parallel cousins? world over marriage between first cousins is not encouraged, but in India it is very common. what are the incest laws in India? is it that only cross cousins (bro-sis' children) can marry or even parallel cousins (bro-bro children) can marry? Islam allows parallel cousins marriage. how well is marriage bet parallel cousins accepted in society? n i also read tat such marriages have a marginal increase in risk (5%-7%) for abnormalities whn compared to any normal couple (3%-4%). is this true?? please throw light on the above questions... thanks a lot
aslam, i liked ur answer. very practical. ok wanted to know this, u say there have been many inter cousin marriages in ur family, have there been any parallel cousins married? have they any children and what is their state? insha alla, they be normal n good.
Answer: it can lead to abnormalities and degeneration of you progeny if u do this. this happens because your and your cousin's genes are related. the defects or problems with you or anyone in your family have since birth are called con-genital defects. if u or anyone else in you family does'nt have defects, then u can say that the con-genital defects are hidden(they might have been in your forefathers,or God forbid, might be in your children). you and your cousin both come from the same family, with the same family history, with similar genes---this means both of you have the same hidden con-genital defects in your genes. when both of you will mate, the same genes will come into the child from his mum and dad(that is you and your cousin). Now the defects have a extremely higher chance of effecting your child.
If you marry someone else not related to you, then your child will receive 2 different sets of genes. Hence your child should be normal. remember if your child gets 2 defective genes of the same type, he is bound to have a defect. these defects can be-colour blindness, haemophilia (wounds bleed continuously), sickle cell anaemia(which leads to death at a tender age).
the more closely related are the parents, the weaker are the children.
You should marry your cousin only if you don't find anyone else to marry. don't go for your emotions. be practical. think of your future.
Let me clarify one last point- marrying cousins is allowed in Islam wherever you are. hindus in india don't allow such marriages. Islam allows one to marry one's cousin irrespective of one's country. it depends to which religion you belong , not the nation you reside in.
we are a muslim family and thre have been many inter cousin marriages in my family. if your religion allows this, you are seen like any other normal couple in society. it can be an issue if your religion doesn't allow this.marriage between muslim cousins is not at all any issue in society. If u & your cousin have not drank milk of the same woman,(be it any one)
you can marry any of your opposite gender cousins(be it sis-bro or bro-bro or sis-sis)
Question: How likely is it that you will be asked to do parallel parking on the behind the wheel test? (CA)? I've heard from many people that they didnt have to do it. But my cousin was asked to..does anyone really know? Can/should you ask the examiner before the test?
any advice for taking the test is appreciated!
Answer: i read somewhere that they do not require it anymore in CA. I would ask before i took the exam what kind of tests they would have me doing. It is a requirement here where i live so i dont really know for there lol sorry
Question: Question about parallel/cross cousins? What if it's your uncle's wife's and ex-husband's child?
Oh no! I'm not thinking about dating them. I'm doing a kinship chart for my anthropology class and need to label them as being cross or parallel cousins. They're parallel if their parent is the same sex as your parent.
Answer: This is at best a "cousins only by marriage" situation. Your uncle's wife was married previously and had a child by her ex-husband, not making this new cousin directly blood related, but rather only related by the happenstance of marriage. If you're thinking of dating this "cousin", it's perfectly OK because there is no blood relation at all.
Question: The children of a brother (and his wife) and his sister (and her husband) would be:? a parallel cousin or cross cousin?
this is a question on an anthropology assignment...not relating to me.
Answer: I answered this earlier but I was wrong. It wouldn't let me edit my answer so I deleted it and got on my husbands account.
Edited-
I was wrong! they are cross cousins.
Parallel cousins are from siblings of the same sex. Cross are from siblings of the opposite sex.

Question: Does anyone have any suggestions on how to throw 2 housewarming parties at once? My sister wants to throw a housewarming party for me and my husband, as well as a cousin on the married side of her family. We both bought houses last month after living parallel lives, (i.e. we have both spent the last couple of years living with our parents) we finally have our independence and want to celebrate it, while not taking away anything from the other family's houses.
Answer: How about a "progressive party"? Guests can start at one of your homes for appetizers and drinks and end at the other house for the main dish and dessert! Or snacks at each. That way each house gets equal treatment and the family can celebrate with everyone!
Question: When a woman marries her father's sister's son it is called...? A. matrilateral cross-cousin marriage
B. matrilateral parallel -cousin marriage
C. patrilateral cross-cousin marriage
D. patrilateral parallel-cousin marriage
Thanks so much!
Answer: She is marrying a relative of her father, so that makes it patrilateral, and his sister's son is her first cousin, so that makes it parallel. Answer D is correct. And it is highly unlikely that any of their children will be abnormal.

Question: Is there a way I can get a Windows SP2 disc from Microsoft with my computer's product key? I need a Windows XP disc for Parallels (Virtual Machine for Mac), and I have a genuine Windows computer running Windows XP Professional (my old computer), my cousin said that you can send in your Windows product key and they'll mail you a disc, but both of us don't know where to send it or call.
Answer: the product key isnt really tied to the disc if i remember correctly, if you call up microsoft support and tell them your situation they should tell you a few things. one that you would have to deactivate the copy of xp that is on the old computer, and two that they will most likely want you to purchase an extra liscense for x ammount of dollars aka too much. what you can do, is if you have a disc from the old computer, you can use it to make an install disc using the windows computer, i forget what the program is called, you can google around for it. check the link below
props for paralles btw, mac is the way to go

Answer: It's hard to say.
Question: Co-sleeping with your baby? How many of you moms sleep with your baby in your bed with you?
I was talking to my cousin earlier today and he was telling me about how his ex-wife co-slept with their one and half year old daughter and rolled over on her and didn't notice or wake up. He arrived at her house early the next morning to pick the baby up to find her still partially on top of their daughter and the baby wide awake trying to wiggle out from under her mom and it took him 10 minutes to wake her! He was furious.
Another story is... My mom is a child protection worker and one of her clients co slept with her child and rolled over on her (she was 2 months old i think) and she suffocated her. And then she had a second baby and the same thing happened. It's ridiculous how she didn't learn what a horrible mistake she made.
I can understand co-sleeping starting at one years old if you turn the baby a certain way. Like my mom used to co-sleep with my baby cousins when we'd watch them years ago (when they were babies) but she'd always make it so they were laying with their feet pointed to her so they made a T and not parallel so if she did happen to move or roll, it would be onto their legs and not entire body and most importantly face.
I don't think co-sleeping at night in the same bed with a baby is necessary. I understand the wanting to be close to your baby but you could bring in a mobile crib or something for them to sleep in. I just see too many risks in having them in the same bed when they're not strong enough to get out from under you or can't wake you up if something happens.
Sorry...i meant not necessary in that last paragraph.
I'm not calling them irresponsible necessarily. They are good and great moms in other aspects but they go off about how doing things aren't safe for their babies but then they risk harming them in this way. It may not happen often but it does happen more than people may think.
If you can co-sleep safely, then great...it's great to have your baby close. But putting them in bed right next to you for a long night of sleep just seems too potentially dangerous.
I'm not looking for people to agree with me...i'm looking for people's opinions. Agree or disagree...this is about people's opinions.
And yes, i live with my boyfriend and his one and a half year old son. We'll only bring him into our room at night if one of us is awake or if we have his mobile crib. I'm usually a light sleeper and my boyfriend really tosses but i don't want to take any chances.
For those of you attacking me on my opinion... I'm not attacking you on yours so why are you doing it to me? I'm asked so i could get your opinions not so i could force my opinion on you.
Like i said, if people can find a safe way to do it then great. My cousins wife is not on drugs and was not on drugs at the time, nor had she been drinking. I'm not sure about my mom's client though. And yes i have done research on this for my own curiosity.
Thanks everyone for your opinions :) Even for those of you got a bit nasty. To clear the air...i really wasn't trying to force my opinions on any of you, i just want to hear people's takes on the subject. Maybe i do over think it and am a bit too cautious, maybe i should try it or maybe i'll feel better about it once i have more kids...who knows. At this point, i'm not comfortable with it for me, and just like i respect all of your opinions, i hope you can respect mine and stop attacking it.
Once again, thank you all for taking the time to answer :)
Answer: People have co-slept for thousands of years in all cultures and people are only concerned about it now...
It sounds like that woman has some sort of disability or maybe she's got problems with drinking or something if it took her 10 minutes to wake up, and because of that it's probably her as opposed to cosleeping. Taking ten minutes to wake up isn't normal at all, especially if your kid is thrashing around trying to get out.
If your mom's client killed two children because of cosleeping then, in all truth, she most likely killed them on purpose, or perhaps in a sleepwalking/trancelike state. Deaths from cosleeping are EXTREMELY rare and so two deaths from one person would indicate that something is HORRIBLY wrong. I'm sure that the detectives are investigating...
When I was raising my sister I'd cosleep with her once in awhile and never once came close to rolling over on her. When my ex was in there with us she never did either and she (at that point) had never been pregnant. When you've got a baby next to you the entire way that you sleep is different. I felt a LOT safer having her next to me than laying her down in a crib and going about my business, not that I'd fault anyone for doing that - I coslept when I was an infant and then my parents put me in a crib when I was a few months old.
EDIT: I understand that when you have a baby, you of course want them to be totally safe and so you start to worry about everything; most parents (and moms in particular) do, and that's totally normal. But it sounds like you're running off of paranoia from a few bad stories rather than thousands of years and literally BILLIONS of instances of success. You want to go on statistics, a child is more apt to be lost to SIDS when they're in a crib in another room than in the room with their parents, and even moreso than a child who cosleeps. So if you're that paranoid about safety maybe you should rethink.
I'm not attacking you, I'm just addressing your points of concern with truth and facts.

Question: hows is this? just a little side note.? The sun shown in my beach side window. I could barely hear the waves hitting the sand. Low tide I thought. I imagined sitting out there, on the beach with the hot sun shining and my feet in the warm sand. The salty smell of water filled my nose. I looked out in the water: the waves glistening in the sun, the little fish jumping out of the water and the people enjoying their day on a boat. Back to reality… I looked at my girlfriend, still asleep, her brown hair around her face. How could she breathe? Then I looked at my alarm clock: 10:30 a.m. Not too late. I got out of bed weary eyed, wiped the sand out of my eyes and walked out of my room. I looked around. I saw the three rooms to my right and the bedroom ahead of me. My cousin was still sleeping, her tangled black hair covering her face. How could she breathe? I walked down the stairs, the wood creaked every so often. The kitchen was so bright, sun shining in through my sliders.
I made my breakfast… a simple bowl of cereal. Creaking through the wood floors, I made my way to the living room. I sat down on a couch parallel to the TV. I turned it on and something about golf came on. Never was really into golf. So, I changed the channel. I looked through the TV and nothing seemed to be on. Finally, I settled for the news, but I never really pay attention to that, I always think about other things. So, in the background I could hear something about higher gas prices, but in my mind I was focusing on work.
My work was interesting, I worked in a hospital. No, I am not a surgeon, I am an ultrasound technologist. I make sure everybody’s inside are okay by checking them with some goo and a probe. I wonder how that lady is doing who found out she might have cancer? I hate seeing that in people. When you see something wrong with someone it always breaks your heart because you can’t tell them. Your job is to find anything wrong and report it to the doctor who tells them.
“Hey babe, what are you doing? You have that thinking face on.” My girlfriend Kally asked
“Oh nothing, I was just thinking about work.” I told her
She sat down: “Well don’t worry about anything” She said as she kissed me and got up
“Hey do you want anything for breakfast?” I offered. I watched as she turned around and her auburn/brown hair turned in the sunlight. Her tan face turned and smiled. Her smile was really white, like pearls under the sea shimmering through the ocean light.
“No I’m fine” Kally said “I’ll get something later if I’m hungry, but thanks” She turned around with a smile. Just like a que, my cousin Casey came down.
“Good morning sleepy-head” I joked
“Oh shut-up” Casey joked, “So what are you watching… the news… wow”
“I’m not really paying attention too it” I said
“Oh well, that’s cool… I guess, so how’s it going?” Casey inquired
‘“Pretty good, just thinking about work” I repeated myself “How about you?”
“I’m just tired, though I shouldn’t be, I mean its summer… and I’m on vacation. So, I have that to bring me up, but I don’t know what to do today.”
“Well, why don’t you… uhh… go into town, maybe do a little shopping.” I suggested
“Okay, that sounds pretty good, but I’m a little hungry so I might get some of that” She said pointing to my cereal.
“It’s in the cabinet to the right of the sink, in the above cabinets.”
“Thanks Caden, you always know how to bring someone up.” Casey told.

Question: An Elder responds to statements on Michelle Obama and Rev. Wright, have you read it yet? To The Editor:
As a 78 year old American of African descent, I feel compelled to respond to all this 'much ado about nothing' when it comes to the statement that Michelle Obama made about the fact that this is the first time in her adult life that she has been proud to be an American.
The country needs to hear this from the Black perspective.
Long before I was born, my grandfather Joseph Burleson, owned a considerable amount of land in oil rich Texas. Because during that era, Blacks could not vote, nor could they contest anything in the courts of the United States, my grandfather's land was STOLEN by his White neighbor. My grandfather, who was literate and better educated than my grandmother, drove to town. Seeing my grandfather leave, the covetous neighbor asked my grandmother to show him the deed to the property. He snatched it. She could not insist that he give it back, nor could she have reported this THEFT to the sheriff because of the fact that Blacks had no rights in the 1800's. The prevailing law at that time was he who held the deed owned the land. Do you think that is something that I am PROUD OF? Right now I should be living off the oil and gas royalties.
In 1934 when my dad drove us to Texas to meet his family, when he stopped to purchase gasoline, his daughters and wife were not allowed to use the washroom. As a man it was easier for his to relieve himself in the bushes, but not for the females. We were, however, reduced to having to go in the bushes, also. Do you think I am PROUD OF THAT?
In 1938 when my oldest sister went to enroll in Hyde Park High School, she was told by the counselor that she did not want to take college preparatory courses, she wanted to study domestic science. Do you think I'm PROUD OF THAT? Of course, when Beatrice Lillian Hurley-Burleson went to school the next day, that was the last time anyone thought that the Burleson girls wanted to study domestic science.
When in 1943 my parents attempted to buy the 2 flat at 5338 South Kenwood, where we had lived since 1933, in Hyde Park, Chicago, IL we were told that we could not buy it because there was a restrictive covenant that said that the property was never to be sold to 'Negroes.' Do you think I am PROUD OF THAT?
In 1950 when I graduated from college, I was unable to get a job because I was considered 'overqualified.' the code word for they would not hire me because of my race. All of the want ads called for Japanese Americans or Neisis (the word given to Japanese Americans at that time). Do you think that was something that I should have been PROUD OF?
I understood that America was trying to make up for the interring of innocent and patriotic Americans who were our enemy by association.
My cousin's barbershop was bombed in Mississippi in the 50's because he was encouraging Black people to register to vote. His wife who had earned a Masters Degree from Northwestern University lost her position as the principal of the local school because of the voter registration activities. Is that something I should be PROUD OF?
Now we get to Rev. Jeremiah Wright, the pastor of the Obama family. Rev. Wright like so many religious zealots overstates many things, that many of his members do not agree with. To suggest that Senator Obama should leave the church of his choice is not only a double standard, but it is absurd. Would any of the talking heads who are so alarmed by Rev. Wright's thoughts and speeches suggest that Catholics should abandon their faith or denounce and reject the Pope because so many priests have molested children. These children were exploited and taken advantage of and they had no choice to even know they could resist, reject and denounce. To me the situations are parallel, except for the fact that the priests behavior is a physical violation of the innocence of children who are marred for life; and the priests behavior is a crime. Rev. Wright's speeches are just words, that one can listen to or not, the member s have a choice. Should Governor Romney denounce and reject the Mormon Church because some of their members practice polygamy?
As Senator Obama has previously stated, we have entered the silly season.
Barack Obama is an adult, and most importantly, he is an exceptionally intelligent adult. Like most of us adults, fortunately, we do not accept all we hear or see. If we did, the world would be more amoral, debased and perverted than the world of today is.
I see all these 'so called' ponderings an attempt to marginalize the candidacy of Senator Barack Obama. I cannot truly call this racism because some ignorant Blacks have also spoken disparagingly about him.
I accept this as the darker side of mankind who because of their own inadequacies, they project their deficiencies on others. Barack Obama is a very rare individual, the likes of whom the world seldom sees. Like most geniuses, they are often misunderstood. They are objects of envy and jealousy. They are suspect because they soar above the average man who does not have the intellectual ability to understand the greatness of special people. They are also targets to be pulled down to the level of the mediocre who cannot stand to see an individual with deep convictions and high standards.
We have not seen a phenomena like Barack Obama in many years and many generations. Like Ghanda, like Jesus, like Einstein, like Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., like Mother Theresa, genetically, intellectually and spiritually, these people offer the world so much, but they are often maligned and misunderstood.
Barack Obama is a Christian in the true sense of the word. A true Christian loves his fellow man unconditionally. A true Christian wants the best and tries to bring out the best in his fellow man. A true Christian wants to unite and bring the world together in peace and harmony. This is what Senator Obama stands for; but, unfortunately, he has had to get off point to answer these false charges, innuendos, and just plain lies.
We are in the presence of an angel unaware in Senator Barack Obama; and this country needs him, more than he needs us. He is the only person at this time in history who can restore respect for America with the worlds' people. Because of his family background, the influence of his beloved mother who instilled great values in him, the influence of his absent father who vicariously inspired a son to go to Harvard as the father had done, the influence of a minister who brought him to an understanding of the value and meaning of Christianity, the influence of a brilliant Harvard educated wife who inspires him and keeps him grounded; he is the epitome of a citizen of the world. He is of the world because the world is in him; and this is what America needs to bring us out of the abyss to which we have sunk in the eyes of the world.
Like, Michelle Obama, after living in this country all of my 78 years, loving my country and not understanding why my country has not loved me, I now for the first time in my adult life feel PROUD OF MY COUNTRY because I sense a maturing, a recognition of talent and character, and not color, and a field of candidates aspiring to lead this nation coming from very diverse backgrounds of gender, religious beliefs, national origin, ethnicity, age and experiences. This to me is the HOPE that America is coming into her own and will begin to CHANGE and will embrace the philosophy upon which this country was founded, where all men are created equal and are entitled to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Now I truly believe, YES WE CAN!

Answer: I'd like to give that woman a big hug and a kiss.
Question: gap between teeth, looks prominent after scaling.also overbite problem.? My cousin has her tartars removed for the first time in her life, it is clean now. but the front 2 teeth on the lower jaw quite not straight and aligned parallel to each other , causing a big gap in between. the gap became so prominent after scaling, she feels very shy and depressed.her denist said that he would just lace another tooth in between!! I guess he was talking about artifical removable tooth. she is just in her mid twenties, is it really a good idea? what kinna orthodontic treatment she needs to fill the gap for years or to implant a tooth.she is on budget now and can't afford any expensive procedure.please suggest some good methods for her with cost.she is in India, no dental insurance.
Secondly what kinna procedures are required to fix gaps between all the frontal teeth and also reducing overbite to make both the jaws proportionate.
Answer: The overbite can only be corrected with braces.
However, the main problem is the huge gap, which had been there all along.
You just couldn't see it because it was covered by the tartar.
Unfortunately, she has a lot of bone loss already, which is irreversible.
It is also harmful to go for the braces with existing gum disease.
So, the best thing will be to treat the gum condition first and then decide the course of action.
Question: What was that I saw in the sky 11 years ago? ok, so it was 1998's winter in India when I and my cousin noticed something in the sky. It was fire. It looked like some thing like a very long and invisible burning stick flying in the sky. But No material was visible on which fire was set only fire was visible. It was moving in only 1 direction (South to North, horrizontal).
As it was covering the distance, its length was constantly decreasing and after 3-4 minutes it completely vanished.
It was neither a space craft nor an asteoroid/meteoroid because its motion was parallel to earth's surface.
AND it was afternoon.
I told you it was similar to if we burn an invisible stick on which fire is visible. Smoke was also visible. Colour of fire was yellow just like normal candle.
And it was surely parallel to earth surface becouse it was not falling anywhere(means had no tale ) just moving from point to another.
Trust me it could not be meteor. It had no tail, was very slow, had a height nearly same as that of kites and birds.
And its shape was same as that of a burning invisible wooden rod/Stick
Answer: i did read somewhere about this its a natural phenomena, fire in the sky, caused by gases mixing in the atmosphere, cant remember where i read it i also watched a video of it i will try an find and post link for you ohttp://listverse.com/science/20-amazing-and-unusual-weather-phenomena/k found similar on this site, called fire rainbows some other amazing weather too scroll down to no.4.
