Guardian
A person appointed by a judge in a special court proceeding who is legally responsible for the care of another person because that person is unable to handle his or her affairs, whether that be because of disease, disability or being under 18. Children usually only have guardians when neither of their parents are willing or able to care for them. Compare with conservator. See the Office of Public Advocacy's Family Guardian page for more information.
Question: How does a guardian obtain all the bills of a ward to make sure they are paid in a timely manner? USA, Florida--How does a guardian obtain all the bills of a ward to make sure they are paid in a timely manner? Does the guardian, if the ward is living in a nursing home, have bills that came to the ward's residence transfered to her place of business? Is the guardian supposed to put in a change of address from the ward's former homesteaded address to the guardian's mailing address?
Answer: The guardian has the bills sent to its office so that they can be paid in a timely basis. That is more efficient than having the mail change. Changes in mail addresses are good for only a limited period of time, plus it delays response by a week if mail is forwarded.
Our local post office requires a court-issued certificate (certified copy of the Court Order appointing the guardian) where mail is to be changed on behalf of an adjudicated "incapacitated person." I do not think this is a requirement of federal law, but is a matter of prudence on the part of the post office management. They have a desire to see that things are handled on a proper basis.
Question: Can a guardian dictate which group home a consumer chooses to stay in? I am a community support worker, working with a consumer who has a criminal history. He is at least a bit mentally challenged. I'm not sure, but it seems that he could be a victim of the system. In other words, they act like they (his group home staff in particular) want him to be independent, but they talk to him like he's worthless. He has a habit of changing group homes ---- quite often! Since his last "episode" (he tore some things up around the home to get his way) his guardian told him that he is not moving again. Is that his guardian's right?
Answer: If he's under 18, yes. If he's over 18, but considered a vulnerable adult, yes.

We are the birth parents and married to each other. The financial institution that the money is coming from says they still need guardianship papers.

Question: How much does the Guardian of an elderly person and estate charge? My wife's grandmother has a guardian of her person and estate but both are in another state. She has applied for and received guardianship of her grandmother, but just her person. The estate portion for several reasons needs to stay in the other state while assets are disposed of. My wifes lawyer needs for my wife to find out what a Guardian in Mo. charges as he will be requesting my wife to receive something from the estate as they have been paying it all along. My wife happily does it for nothing for the last 4 months and may continue doing it for free but the lawyer of the guardian in the other state asked for my wifes lawyer to find out what a Guardian makes/charges in missouri.

Question: How do I get a court appointed guardian for someone who is mentally unstable? we have a 20 yr old pregnant girl staying with us, who is depressed, emotionally flat, and is neglecting herself and the unborn baby. She is unable to make decisions for herself. We do not have the money to petition the court to become her legal guardian. How do we have a guardian assigned to her from the courts? who do we contact?
we have her under psychiatric care, and she is not going to counseling. she is lying to them.
We are trying to help her and her baby, all advice will be appreciated.
Answer: Some states have state guardianship programs. Look in your state's website. Most states require you to nominate someone (which can be yourself) to serve as guardian. You will need medical documents showing she is mentally unable to make her own decisions, and the psychiatrist or, in some states, psychologist, may have to testify.
You or someone must petition for a guardian to be appointed or nothing is likely to happen.
Question: Whats the difference between the guardian pump and the paradigm? Whats the difference between the paradigm minimed insulin pump and the guardian minimed insulin pump?
Answer: The Guardian pump is the pump that continuosly checks your blood glucose levels for you through an alternate catheter sight. This cathetar has a way of checking your glucose levels every 5 minutes and relaying these readings to the pump. As for the paradigm there are different series. The paradigm is just the standard pump where you still have to poke your finger all of the time. however there is a paradigm pump that has a bolus wizard downloaded into it. This comes with a paradigm link glucose meter. When you check your sugar level the reading will automatically register to your pump and it will give you a dose of insulin based on the amount of carbs you eat and any correction if you need it. This bolus wizard does all of the math for you. visit www.minimed.com for more details. I hope i helped out.

Question: How do you prove someone is your legal guardian for piercings? If my 18 year old cousin takes me what would I need to prove he is my guardian? We both would bring IDs, but do I need a birth certificate or somthing? Should I have my parebts write a note saying he is my guardian?
Answer: Well, in my experience piercing places just insist upon a a responsible looking, older looking person accompanying you, both of you bringing IDs would be a wise idea. I got my nose pierced when I was sixteen under the care of my then girlfriend's mom (I had my parent's permission, they just weren't with me at the time). A good piercing place SHOULD ask for ID and make you sign a form stating that they are your legal guardian. A responsible piercer is careful about that sort of thing.
Question: What kind of guardian would you choose for your child? We are having our wills done. What are the MOST important qualities that a person should have for you to choose them as guardian of your child should you (Gforbid) die? My partner and I are at odds about who should be chosen as guardian. Please list them in decending importance.
Answer: Someone who will bring up your child in a similar way yourself and who will love them.
I was asked to be the guardian to a friends children should anything happen to her, even though she had sisters of her own. She just felt that I had the values that she thought were important and she knew I loved her kids and they loved me.
Family members are probably the first people to look at, followed by close friends, but you shouldn't go with a family member just because they are family. It is important to find the right person/people to care for your child/ren should the unthinkable happen.
The person you approach to be your childs guardian will also have to think long and hard about it and be sure that they can provide the love, care and support that your child/ren needs.
Question: When appointing someone a guardian of a child what rights do the parents lose? My parents are wanting me to appoint them guardians of my daughter so that she can be put on their insurance. I'm very nervous about doing this. Isn't that like giving your child away? I'm unsure. When appointing someone a guardian what does that really mean? If anyone can give me some info and/or some websites that can explain it to me it would be a great help. I don't know if the state you live in makes a difference but I live in Missouri.
Answer: i thought it ment like if you get sick or something or your child gets sick and you can't pick the child up tehy would have them you should look it up on google
Question: How can I get car insurance without a guardian? I live with away from my parents, Im almost 18 but not there yet. How can i get car insurance without having a guardian?
Answer: In the US yes you can. There should be no problem. You can even get your own policy online with Progressive. I wouldn't suggest it if you do not know much about insurance. The best thing to do is to call an independent agent for a quote. They can advise you on what coverage you should have, they will offer you a few options and you can make an informed decision for the coverage that is best for your situation & what you can afford. It will be expensive!
Question: Do the Guardian accept 15 year old students for work experience? I have looked on the Guardian website but cannot really find much. I was just wondering if anyone works there or has had previous work experience there.
I know that they accept students over 18 but I wanted to know whether they would accept a 15 year old.
Answer: You can always contact them and find out...

Question: Will a Guardian automatic natural gas powered generator increase the value of my home? I'm thinking about having a Guardian automatic natural gas powered generator installed at my home to protect against power outages and I want to know if it will make my home more attractive to potential buyers. I have a basement with a sump pump so I am, naturally, concerned about power outages.
Answer: Yes.
Especially if you have a basement sump pump and there is water in it all the time. The generators they are making now are awesome machines and provide piece of mind for a lot of different reasons. Just be prepared for your gas bill when you have an extended power outage!
Make sure the generator is installed correctly and meets all codes... use a contractor who has done several. Talk with them to find out what maintenance is required / tests that need to be done periodically. Don't just ignore the thing or it will not work when you need it... now what good would that do.
