Passive Registries
This term refers to a type of reunion registry that requires both parties to register their consent for release of information before a match can be made. Once a match occurs, both parties are notified. These systems depend on both parties registering, a match being found, and a follow-up notification being made by the registry administrator.

can u guys help me out here?
i'm using windows xp sp3.. i've also installed the windows installer version 4.5 now, but its still not working
Answer: MSI files are installation files. Rather than clicking or trying to get the msi file to open here's what I would do.
RIGHT click the msi file and choose "Install".
That should start the setup/installation.

I've tried installing a new version of the windows installer and unregistering and re-registering the service but nothing works. I have also made sure the Windows Installer Service is started in XP and on Automatic start.
Can anyone help?
Thanks.
This isn't the only program this problem occurs with.
Answer: Why bother with XP there are no more updates as from 2011 and obsolete in 2012. Go for Windows 7 and Firefox.

Answer: Uninstall it and get back the Service Pack 2. More stable and less problematic.

Question: trojan/malware- unable to install any antivirus or spyware remover? If I run IE (to check my yahoo mail b.c. I have beta), I get pop ups. If I run Mozilla Firefox, the trojan/virus/malware kicks me off the net and closes the browser. I am unable to install superAntiSpyare or Ad Aware 2008. I have windows xp with service pack 2.
Also, I tried to use system restore and tried to create my own restore point. I did it twice and when I hit undo, I can no longer get my desktop back up in regular mode. I have to boot in safe mode. I tried to use system restore to go back to the last known good configuration and still no results. How do I fix?
Here's a copy of the error message I'm getting when I try to install something:

I tried to do a system restore to the time before I had the virus and it wouldn't allow me to choose a date other than yesterday's date; I had the virus yesterday so that wouldn't work. I would prefer not to pay someone to fix if I don't have to. Thanks.
Is there any way to fix without reformatting my system. I've got so many files and progs, that having to reinstall all that again would be a nightmare. If I restore to factory settings, do I still lose all my progs and files? Thanks.
Answer: 1. Run Deckard's System Scanner (DSS)

2. Run the vundo and combo fix http://securitynewsfromthenet.blogspot.c…
3. Run Malwarebytes Anti-Malware

5 Run Superantispyware http://securitynewsfromthenet.blogspot.c…
