If I begin to make payments on this debt via personal check, can they automatically garnish the funds from my checking account?

Answer: It's not smart to tip off your creditor about where you keep your money. Writing a check gives them a direct line to where your account is located. It would be very simple for them to get a court judgement, then take the money from your account. Send them money by money order if at all possible.

Question: Is debt forgiven if a check isn't cashed within 180 days? I have two check I found recently, both over a year old, worth over $300 altogether from large corporations. One says void after 180days. I know they probably wont go through if I cashed them but does this mean that the company's debt to me is forgiven?

Answer: contact the company and they will issue you new checks!!!

Question: can someone who owns a debt card check what they bought on the interent? my aunt lets me buy what i want with her debt card if i want something off the internet. as long as i have the cash money for it. my question is that i wanna buy something at a sex toy shop on the internet and i was wondering if she could check and see what i bought with her card. she doesnt care if i use it but it would be a little awkward if she seen what i bought. help me out please :)

Answer: Yes, she can check wht you bought with it thru the internet. I kno this bc I used to have a debit card and I could go to the banks website, log in and check everything I bought.

Answer: Hey, First of all you need to find how much debts you are having, then apply for a credit card. Try to repay all of your debts, as they will see any positivity in you, that you are repaying debts continuously, they will issue you a credit cards.

Question: Has Anyone Had any bad experiences with Debt Consolidation or Check Cashing Places? Recently I used a debt consolidation company. Its been a year now and besides their 39.00 fee each month, my debt is down by 7000.00 dollars, a situation I was never able to resolve on my own. I also recently used a check to cash company and it was so very easy. I paid it off and that was that. This could not be all there is too it. I wanted to know if anybody had any bad experiences so I can pass it on and prevent someone from getting into trouble.

Answer: I ran into financial trouble a while back and relied solely on check cashing places. There are 3 companies in my city that offer payday advances and I would get one to pay off the other. Fortunately times have changed. These places are there only for short term emergencies and not long term financial problems. I would suggest staying away from such places unless you desperately need the money for food or rent. If you get a payday advance just to go out or not be late on a payment you will get hit hard at the end of the 2week grace period because you will begin getting used to depending on these places that you will have a hard time getting out. Make sure you close your accounts before you rack them up with debt again.

Question: Would a UK credit check show debt from other countries? Would a UK credit check show credit card debt from other countries or does it only check UK records?

Answer: Will show only if you have borrowed from UK based company. This includes foreign lenders with a UK arm.

Answer: It depends. Sometimes they send you a check but normally they take your existing loan information and payoff those accounts.

Answer: sometimes you go to the bank and there you make up your own pin code that how it works sometimes I would go the bank and ask they might be able to give you a pin right then and there

Question: If someone in debt signs me over a check? Will I have no problems cashing it? The check is not from the person in debt it's from an actual company just in there name. So I should be able to cash it right?

Answer: Avoid 3rd party checks at all costs. Ask the person to cash the check, and hand you the cash.

Question: Can a company take money out of your check to pay a debt with out a garnishment? The company my husband works for allows him a charge account. Then they turn around and take money out of his check at an amount that they choose. i had my husband tell them we would pay it our selves. that lasted 2 months. I was paying them 200$ per month and they didnt like think that was enough. So they took over again. We can't stop them because they write the check but is it legal?

Answer: Depends on company policy - what does the employee handbook or company guidelines have to say about the charge account and repayment? If they have a stated policy, they must abide by it, and it would only be illegal if they were doing something other than represented.

Question: is it safe to pay debt over phone with a electronic check? i want to pay off an old cc that is not at an outside collection agency, but it is with collections of the credit cards. i want to pay it off before they sue, they already started that process. do you think it's safe to pay over the phone by electronic check? is capital one.

Answer: First, I would NEVER do a phone check for any reason. But giving a collection agency direct access to your bank account is the absolute worse idea. They are well known for taking more, or multiple times. I would also insist on a written settlement agreement before I paid anything, even if it is the original creditor.

Question: What is the maximum allowed to be taken from a pay check on a collection of a debt? on a collection of a debt that goes to an employer what is the maximum percentage that can be paid on the debt?

Answer: Many years ago, when I did payroll, maximum was 15% of gross. Except for the government when you owe taxes. They can take all of it but $50. It may depend on what state. Ask your payroll dept.

Question: Can a debt collector garnish your wages from an unemployment check? I was just wondering if your wages from an unemployment check could be garnished.I've heard that they can garnish ONLY child support from it.Is this true?

Answer: Ryan and Infinit... are mostly correct. If you combine exempt funds (unemployment, social security, etc) with non-exempt funds, the entire account is at risk for seizure as the separation between the two types of funds is erased. How can you prove that the money in the account is from exempt funds? If your name is attached as co-owner or custodian of any account, the entire account can be seized without the other owner's knowledge or permission because you are combining your exempt funds from their non-exempt funds.

Question: What are the chances of anyone issuing a check book while under debt management?

Answer: Starlight how the fck is that fraud? Is this a factual answer or simply a rude ignorant one? It's not fraud when you a bank says you credit is good enough to have a cheque book! Someone can be on a debt managment plan and still use certain items. In bankruptcy for example you can still use a debit card. (but you'd know that of course having done so yourself!??) It's only fraud when someone obtains something by deception ie they lie about income, name, address etc I am under debt managment and have a cheque book with my good bank account and have two debit cards one from a basic bank account! My credit is destroyed but I am still allowed to use these items from a bank that has not been affected. Check your facts before you pass judgment! To the asker: It depends on your bank and credit rating and what country your in (you use the spelling check, rather than cheque)

I"m starting to pay off the debts on my credit reports and would like to know would it be better to pay with a money order or personal check. I only ask in the event the payment is disputed and I need to proove payment was sent

Answer: Check, not a personal check, but a cashier's check. Never pay with a personal check that has your checking account number, especially if you've settled for less than what you originally owed, so that collectors won't try to get the remainder.

Question: can a bank debit your check acct. for credit card debt, putting the check acct. overdrawn, and charge od fees? They overdrew my checking account to pay the credit card debt and now are threatening, putting me into a chex system, and told me that I will not be able to get a check acct. if I do not pay the overdraft fees. Can they do this ?

Answer: Yes - and it is RETARDED! And then they will start charging overdraft fees on the overdraft fees. DONT let them put you in chex system. It is almost impossible to get out, or get anything from anywhere (rentals, other credit cards, a new bank acct.... ) Get a payday loan - whatever it takes - to prevent that from happening. Then fight the charges tooth and nail - they will NOT want to refund the overdraft fees, but if you go off enough there's a chance you can get some of it back.

Question: If I dispute the amount owed on my credit card and send a "payment in full" check, does that fulfill the debt? I am curious if this is legal and if they can try to collect on the debt.
