Question: How should drug companies respond to people who abuse drugs? Which approach makes more sense to you? Should drug companies make drugs that are highly toxic if abused (shot up, ect) to discourage their abuse, or should they make drugs that are safer even if abused, not because you want them to be abused but because you believe in harm reduction? If making the pills more toxic turns out to not dissuade everyone from abusing these drugs, it is ethical to be increasing the harm these people experience when that harm could be reduced?
Many binders and time release formulations are dangerous to people who shoot up. They shouldnt be shooting up anyway, but if we are further endangering their lives are we doing the right thing?
Another thing is additives like tylenol in Vocodin and Percocet. Despite what they tell you, the tyenol does not add significantly to the pain relief. Tylenol is good for minor aches and pains and it worthless for moderate to severe pain. It doesnt make enough of a difference. Its put in there however to make people sick if they take too much of the opiate. Too much tylenol will destroy your liver and is more toxic than the hydrocodone. Hydrocodone is dangerous if you take more than you have a tolerance for but is comparably non toxic if you use the right dosage. If you increase your dose of hydrocodone to tolerance, you will eventually destroy your liver with the tylenol rather than from the opiates. Many doctors are now switching to norco instead of vicodin because it contains less of the harmful tylenol which should never ever be shot...but it happens and people die.
So, should we err on the side of preventing drug abuse by making it scary by adding stuff that can kill you, or should we err on the side of compassion and harm reduction even when these people are breaking the law by abusing their medication?
"How about we manufacture drugs that do the optimum good for the patient and let the docs do what they do best"
That would be nice. However, the DEA breaths down the neck of doctors and drug companies in the name of trying to prevent drug abuse, and because of this many doctors are afraid to do their job and end up letter legitimate pain patients suffer. Drug companies are also pressured to cater to the DEAs wishes rather than just focus on making the best medications for pain they can make.
Answer: First off. They should crack down on pill docters cause that is most of the cause of these kinds of drugs.
Also i have alot of friends that get xanax from physcatrists. They go in there and say that there family doctor perscribes them this and they do not check.
Really they have done all that they can do for this. Making them illegal makes people want to do it more, thats just the way life works. My answer if its not affecting you
dont worry about it.
Question: How fast does domestic abuse advance and escalate? I am interested in finding out how fast domestic violence and abuse can escalate into a life threatening incident. I know without a doubt domestic violence and abuse are life threatening matters no matter the 'level' of abuse, or type.
Answer: If domestic violence and abuse is overlooked and forgiven, the first time it happens, believe me,it will grow rapidly at a pace you can't keep up with and any such instance can become life-threatening.So,its very essential to uproot the tendency the moment it starts.
Question: How would alcohol abuse in the father lead to developmental problems in the fetus? It is easy to see how alcohol abuse in the mother could lead to developmental problems in the fetus. How would alcohol abuse in the father lead to developmental problems in the fetus?
Answer: Ethanol in alcoholic beverages has been consumed by humans since prehistoric times for a variety of hygienic, dietary, medicinal, religious, and recreational reasons. The consumption of large doses of ethanol causes drunkenness (intoxication), which may lead to a hangover as its effects wear off. Depending upon the dose and the regularity of its consumption, ethanol can cause acute respiratory failure or death. Because ethanol impairs judgment in humans, it can be a catalyst for reckless or irresponsible behavior.
The LD50 of ethanol in rats is 10,300 mg/kg.[5] Other alcohols are substantially more poisonous than ethanol, partly because they take much longer to be metabolized and partly because their metabolzation produces substances that are even more toxic. Methanol (wood alcohol), for instance, is oxidized to the poisonous formaldehyde in the liver by alcohol dehydrogenase enzymes; this can cause blindness or death.[2]
An effective treatment to prevent formaldehyde toxicity after methanol ingestion is to administer ethanol. Alcohol dehydrogenase has a higher affinity for ethanol, thus preventing methanol from binding and acting as a substrate. Any remaining methanol will then have time to be excreted through the kidneys. Remaining formaldehyde will be converted to formic acid and excreted.[6][7]
Methanol itself, while poisonous, has a much weaker sedative effect than ethanol. Some longer-chain alcohols such as n-propanol, isopropanol, n-butanol, t-butanol and 2-methyl-2-butanol do however have stronger sedative effects, but also have higher toxicity than ethanol.[8][9] These longer chain alcohols are found as contaminants in some alcoholic beverages and are known as fusel alcohols,[10][11] and are reputed to cause severe hangovers although it is unclear if the fusel alcohols are actually responsible.[12] Many longer chain alcohols are used in industry as solvents and are occasionally abused by alcoholics,[13][14] leading to a range of adverse health effects.[15]

Question: Can emotional abuse turn to physical abuse if you start to feel physical pain? Like dealing with somebody who gives you the silent treatment no matter what, for example. You really care for the person, so you really get hurt by it. It can cause you stress pains like gert or ulcers or something because you begin to get stressed. So can something emotional be something that may turn into something physical for you? Or is physical abuse what it is- physical abuse, (battering)
Answer: Physical abuse and emotional abuse are much the same. People that abuse have serious problems and they take it out on you. You need to examine why you feel you care for someone that treats you badly. That doesn't make good sense. You need to get out of the relationship and get counseling because you allow yourself to be treated so badly and have such low expectations of how you should be treated. No one deserves to be abused for any reason. You deserve to be treated better. Without help the abuser will not change and may not change anyway. Get out immediately. Abuse escalates. It can become physical. And when you go, be very careful. Go when he isn't around. There are places for abused women. Call them. They will help you get started on a better life.
Question: What exactly is verbal abuse and does it fall under family abuse? I want to know if saying verbal insults to your family constantly falls under family abuse. It hasn't gotten to the point of hitting but it has gotten to the point were we can't be at peace. I want to know exactly what verbal abuse is. It's to a point were we can't even be in a room in peace due to the constant insults we keep hearing some of the worst things someone could say to a person and i want to know how bad that could be and if there could be criminal charges. Please help?
Answer: Hi there- I don't know exactly what your situation is, but it sounds like things are pretty rough with your family. I would suggest reading a book called A Verbally Abusive Relationship by Patricia Evans. Also, if it feels like verbal abuse, it probably is. Emotional abuse can be just as bad and even worse than physical abuse. Have you sought counseling? Hang in there and good luck!
Question: What's the difference between abuse and mistreatment? Where do you draw the line? I don't mean physical abuse, I mean emotional/mental abuse.
Screaming? Name-calling? Negligence? Disrespect?
Not making the bed in the morning?
What is abusive behavior, and what is just not being a good partner?
Answer: I would have to say that it depends on the frequency and type of "screaming" and name calling.
Everyone has bad moments. Even the most kind and most patient person can have a bad day or a bad minute and lose it for a time. Being screamed at, sworn at, verbally broken down on a daily or even weekly basis could be considered emotionally abusive. Once a month, you might want to find out what the underlying cause is and work to correct it. Once every couple of months, it is okay to put it down to a bad moment and be forgiving, though it might behoove one to suggest a different method of assauging the temper.
Negligence is just thoughtlessness, not abuse. Disrespect is just that, a character flaw, not abusive. With these, the choice is there, seek to change things or move on.
Although I am the first to decry abuse within relationships, I also find that it has become a word that is overused and misunderstood, to the point that when someone says they are abused they are no longer taken seriously. You draw the line by using a modicum of common sense and not jumping on the "abuse" bandwagon.
Question: What drives someone to abuse or kill an animal for fun? I've never gotten why so many people like hurting or killing animals just for laughs. I get hunting and understand population control but to kill just get your rocks off is just something that I can't understand. So I'm curious what drives someone to abuse or kill an animal for fun?
Answer: I used to work at Corrections (headquarters) and did a lot of research on various topics.
My opinion, is that some people like the control - over life or death - that they have by killing animals. And if it is a sadistic / torture killing - they may grow bored with it - and move onto doing the same thing to humans.
Some people have a hatred of others - so bad that they enjoy tormenting other people. It may be at several different levels.
I worked for the state at one agency and we had 3 levels of management that really enjoyed tormenting the employees. I was a supervisor and would be called in and given orders to cause the employees to have problems on the job. I would refuse. It was so bad that one employee came in and jumped out a 24th story window. The managers, just sat around and told jokes about it - that they missed seeing his face when he hit.
When I went to Corrections and learned more about criminals, I used to go home and tell my wife to be more careful when she dealt with people. That there were some people who just went out and hunted for someone they could torture and kill. My wife, would tell me I was over-reacting. Now retired, she has time to watch several of the true-crime shows on tv - and she now fusses at me "why didn't you tell me they are this bad?"
There was a guy who killed for over 20 years in Kansas, his nickname was BTK - for Bind (tie up), Torture, Kill. (SEE THE LINK BELOW) Which is what he did to his victims. Come to find out, he held a high position in a local church. And when he was finally caught, he readily admitted that he would drive around looking for people who he could BTK. Then he would stalk them. And then attack them.
That is the true danger. People who do these types of things - look and act - just like you and me - until they are ready to do the abuse. So who can you really trust?
Question: How can I report animal abuse in a local shelter? I want to find a way to report animal abuse that I witnessed in a local animal shelter and I would like it to be brought to the publics attention but our local newspaper will not help and please do not tell me to report it to the ASPCA OR PETA because I know aboout them but that will not help. So if anyone knows anyway to help with this please let me know.
Answer: firstly document the facts now so you dont forget later...
if their is a manager of the shelter you should report it to them...the local newspaper is generaly the best way of bringing things to the publics attention HOWEVER they risk being sued if the information is incorrect plus will get blasted by alot of shelter supporters for running the story... PLUS they are worried about undoing any good things that the shelter does do...
ok.. so if this shelter is not an SPCA the SPCA itself will know who investigates complaints in that area.. they may not help but can tell you who will
a vet might know who you contact
or the city itself usually investigates complaints of abuse...so call them too...
good luck - make sure what you saw was infact abuse not a misunderstanding of a situation (like you cannot report euthanasia becuase it is done to control numbers)
Question: What animal should I choose for my animal abuse paper? For school I have to write a paper on animal abuse. I can only pick one animal that's abused to write it on, though. Which animal would be the easiest to write about? Links and information would be helpful, thank you.
Answer: Try to think of a really cute animal, or one that looks really sad. I think the younger, the more attention they will attract. Try a puppy, a kitten, or something like that.
Good luck! =)
Question: How can you characterize verbal abuse that is based on the tone of voice a person uses? Please help me find the right word.
Note: This is in response to a boss who speaks to employees in a very demoralizing manner. But when what was said is explained to a third party, it doesn't capture the abuse accurately.
Answer: The tape recorder idea is excellent! In terms of legality; most state laws require that only one party consent to the recording of a conversation without the legal obligation of informing any other party. It becomes illegal when a person records a conversation between two others....check your state laws if you think this could help you, and there are plenty of inconspicious voice recording gadgets out there.
Your question was actually to "characterize" this sort of abuse. As you know it is a form of verbal abuse...but in a subcategory like yelling, cursing, insulting, mocking...you get the picure. If I were to give it a name I would call it "abusive tone." Is your boss older, constantly stressed, perhaps overweight? Most people who use the stern tone of voice are unhealthy physically and mentally. They like to transfer their issues to someone else with blame and ridicule. If this sounds like your boss then he may develop a heart condition...or has he already?
The best advice is to take what he says in stride, and if you can't then maybe you should move on to another job. If that is not a plausible option then perhaps it is time to take the complaints to his boss. Hope this helps and good luck
Question: What are good songs about abuse related sadness or anger? I love Rihanna's new Albut 'Rated R' because she is a woman who has been through the abuse and she came back around and wrote some good songs. Use that as an example. Please help with good music. Thank you!
Answer: Love Is Blind by EVE. Its either hip hop or R&B.
Very good music & words.
Its not a new song out.
Question: What are your thoughts about animal abuse? I was just wondering what some of your thoughts on animal abuse are? I personally can't believe people can do that to a living breathing animal. I don't understand it. I want to work as an animal abuse control officer and someday open my own adoption facility for abused animals, of any kind.
I especially hate those korean dog meat farms, I can't even bare to see nor watch videos about it.
Answer: i have no tolerance for any kind of animal mistreatment.i quit going to the pet section because so many people on there that were being irresponsible pet owners and after getting 12 violations in 1 week for saying what i thought i left it. good for you for your goals. i. love animal planets shows about the abuse inspectors. i hope you succeed in all your endeavors.
Question: What do you think causes people abuse animals? My 4 year old cat was abused and the experience has never really left her. Even though she was less than 6 weeks old when it happened. We've had her since she was 9 weeks old she still sometimes freaks out when she hears men's voices and still won't fully accept my dad.
Do you think people who abuse animals are inately evil? Do you think it could be because of something they've experienced? Have you got any experience of owning an animal that was abused? Thanks for your answers.
Answer: People use their power and strength over animals to abuse them. Also animals can't speak and so the abuser gets off scot free. I think these people ARE evil, and anyone found guilty of abuse should be subjected to the same level themselves. I haven't had an abused animal, but I have rescued a few dogs from the cat & dog home. I would rather go there for a pet, then a breeder.
Question: How much abuse to do you have to take in your customer service job? I have worked in customer services for about 10 years. Every company is different with how much abuse you are expected to take. I have had jobs where I had to just take endless abuse, personal insults and just stand there and smile, and I have had jobs where I am allowed to hang up on or walk away from very nasty customers.
at my job now we are allowed to hang up if a customer way out of line.
Answer: Do your best for as long as you can. There comes a time when enough is enough. When you know there is nothing more you can do to make the customer happy just smile and tell them you understand but you've done all you can. Hang up or walk away. No customer has the right to verbally abuse you.
Question: How long does it take to become a substance abuse nurse? I was wondering how long it takes to be a substance abuse nurse. Or if you can tell me the requirements a substance abuse nurse needs.
Just to clarify I want to become a nurse not a counselor.
Thank you for your help.
Answer: You would need to get your BSN in nursing which would take four years and then perhaps some extra certification after that. usually an employer will specify what else is needed.
Question: What is the difference between drug abuse and drug addiction? I am witing something freelance and just wondering if anyone can give me an addequite difference between drug abuse and drug addiction.
The definition of an addict is: 1. To cause to become physiologically or psychologically dependent on a habit-forming substance
2. To occupy (oneself) with or involve (oneself) in something habitually or compulsively
Definition of drug abuse: he use of illegal drugs or the inappropriate use of legal drugs. The repeated use of drugs to produce pleasure, to alleviate stress, or to alter or avoid reality (or all three).
The use of a drug for a purpose other than that for which it is normally prescribed or recommended.
the habitual misuse of a chemical substance
They are very similar definitions. Almost the same.
Why are people either classified as a drug abuser or a drug addict? Drug abusers don't usually get the intese care an addict does. Remember, the definition for addic includes psychological addiction... not just physical.
Answer: when you are addicted, you are abusing them..so, not much difference
