Infant
A person who has not reached legal majority, usually 18 years of age. Also, referred to as a ?minor,? or unemancipated child.
Question: How old is this infant based off the measurements of the tibia and radius? An infant is found burried in the dessert. To ascertain the relative age of this infant, the tibia and radius were measured. The tibia was 240 millmeters and the radius is 135 millimeters. How old was this infant?
Answer: About 3 - 5 yrs
Question: What do you think about infant circumcision? Personally I think that Infant circumcision should be stoped. It is cruel and painfull for a baby to under-go something like that. I think that the child should be at least 13 or older to have it done, but only if the child wants it. Infant circumcision is taking away the rights of the child as a human. The child has no say so in it. Which they say circumcision is mostly for hygene purposes and that is hard to clean and care for, thats not so true. Im uncut and ive never had a problem with hygene and cleaning, its all just a myth. Im not saying to do away with circumcision, but I do know that its wrong to be done on infants and they not have a say so in it, it should be their choose and have a say so in it.
Answer: It is a horrible thing to do to a baby! And why would he want to do it at 13 or ever? It is genital mutilation, removing a healthy and functional body part because somebody back 150 years ago thought it was more hygienic (false) or would stop mastrubation (also false).
Fortunately circumcision is now becoming largely a historical quirk except where it is a religious rite. Few informed parents are doing it to their babies anymore, although the ignorant will continue with outmoded 20th Century procedures for a few more years.
Circumcision cuts way down on sexual pleasure for the poor men who have had it done and their partners. I can't believe how shallow someone has to be to want part of a man's penis to be chopped off so it looks nicer! Well, actually, folks, it looks kind of incomplete and pathetic if you know what it's SUPPOSED to look like!
I pity men whose parents made this unwise choice for them. They have to live with it and cope the best they can. But that is no reason to do the same terrible thing to their own sons. Are Daddy and his little boy going to be comparing their equipment? At a very young age the child isn't going to notice anyway, as there are so many other differences between the adult penis and juvenile penis. Are you going to wag it around in front of your teenager? Gheesh! Keep it in your pants around the kids, guys!
Question: Will an infant carseat fit in the back of a 2006 corolla? We are planning a family and I am concerned about an infant seat fitting in my car. I have a 2006 Toyota Corolla LE. Will an infant seat fit safely (level and snug) in the backseat in this car? I really love the idea of the infant seat when they are younger, not the convertible at first.
Is there one seat that is better that another?
Answer: i have a 2004 corolla hatch back
my son has a convertable seat . and that fits fine , tho its very squishy if you want to put 2 more passengers in the back .
when its was rear facing it couldnt be secured in the middle because of the split down the middle of the seats . so it was behind the passenger seat .
it was tight .. the top of his car seat would be touching the top back of the passenger seat.
A friend of mine put her capsual in my car for her daughter and that was fine .
Question: How much should infant/toddler clothes cost at a yard sale? I'm having my first yard sale soon and I'd like to group the clothes by size and just ask a flat price per item. If I charge $.25 a piece, I won't make much. but $1 a piece is too much. I think, sometimes, people charge a flat price for how ever much you can stuff into a lunch bag.
What do you think? What's a reasonable price per item or bag?
I've got everything from infant sizes (including socks and hats) to 24mos.
Thanks!
Answer: I always make a $.25 table, and put odds and ends on it that aren't in the best shape. For newer name brand outfits I usually put anywhere from $2-4 .....
Coats in good condition you can go up to$5-6 ..let people make offers.
It all depends on what shape the clothing is in ...I will spend more on a nice, newer item ....good luck !

Question: How much demand is there for good infant care in South Jersey? How much demand is there for good infant care in South Jersey?

Question: What are the effects of classical music on an infant? Does it make the infants smarter and talented than those who were not exposed to the music?
Does it affect a person's way of thinking?
Does it affect an infant's personality?
What are the effects of classical music to infants?
What are some performed studies about classical music?
Answer: I read in a magazine that it is supposed to make them 30% smarter. (I figure with him being his fathers son he will need all the help he can get! lol) So I have been putting headphones on my tummy and letting him listen to it, but the last month or so he throws a tizzy fit when I do. So I don't know if I should still let him listen to it anymore either. It will be interesting to see what people have to say. Now that I think about it I'm going to go see if I can find something on it....I'll let you know.
Fetal learning: a prospective randomized controlled study
D. K. James*, C. J. Spencer* and B. W. Stepsis*
ABSTRACT
ObjectivesTo examine whether prenatal exposure to a music stimulus alters fetal behavior and whether this continues into the newborn period.
Subjects and methodsA prospective randomized control trial was conducted using an exposure learning model in 20 normal term pregnancies. Music was played to ten fetuses via a headphone on the maternal abdomen. Ten controls had the headphone without sound. All fetal studies took place within 72 h prior to elective delivery. All 20 newborns were exposed to the same music on days 3–5. Computerized assessment of fetal heart rate and activity was documented and neonatal behavioral states were recorded. Nonparametric statistical analysis was used.
ResultsFor the first hour of study, exposed fetuses had higher mean heart rates (FHR) and spent more time exhibiting high FHR variation compared to unexposed fetuses, but neither of these differences was statistically significant. However, by the fourth hour the exposed fetuses not only demonstrated these two features but also exhibited more state transitions (P = 0.01) and higher FHR variation (P = 0.04) compared to unexposed fetuses. These effects were carried over into the neonatal period with prenatally exposed newborns manifesting more state transitions (P = 0.01) and spending a higher proportion of time in awake states (P = 0.05) when exposed to the same music stimulus.
ConclusionPrenatal music exposure alters the fetal behavioral state and is carried forward to the newborn period. This suggests that a simple form of fetal programming or learning has occurred.
Question: How early can an infant begin swimming lessons? Hi Moms
My daughter is 4 months old right now. I am hoping to put her in swimming lessons this summer when she will be 6-7 months. I was wondering if thats too young for an infant to begin swimming? Aside from the swimming itself, what about the pool being a source of infections?
Thanks!
Answer: I had my first daughter in "lessons" at 6 months and it was a waste of money. Basically these "lessons" are just to get the baby comfortable with the water. Even though the water was fairly warm, her lips were always blue by the time the lesson was over. I think you could do the same with your baby without PAYING for lessons. You take your baby in the water with you and sing songs, dance around, let her splash. You don't really need a swim teacher showing you how to do that. Hopefully the pool you are in uses the necessary amount of chlorine to rid potential harmful bacteria. I think you daughter is safe in that respect but just don't let her drink the water!
Question: What does 1st time parents would like 2 know about infant bathing? Hi! I'm doing a project about infant bathing. I need 2 teach new parents on how to do infant bathing. So, I would like 2 know what parents-to be would like to know about infant bathing.

Answer: In general, how to do it
How often should you bathe your child Is too frequent bad?
Can you or can you not use adult soap? Whats the difference between infant and adult soap?
Also for newborns, there's the cord concern, so you should touch on that topic

Question: What is the best second row placement for infant and toddler car seats when need both installed? I have a 2005 Honda Odyssey as my car and need to install car seats for a 2 1/2 year old and an infant. Should I attach the infant carrier car seat in the left or right seat of the second row? Am I better off sliding the second row right side seat to the middle or leaving the seat all the way to the right side?
Answer: I have my toddler on the passenger side and my baby on the driver side. There is not enough room for one in the middle. I like it this way because I put a mirror on the back headrest to see my baby while I am driving and that would be too hard if he were on the passenger side. So I can just turn to see my toddler and look in the rear view mirror to see my baby.
Question: What is travelling with an infant like with all the new screening procedures? I am curious with the new body scanners/ pat downs in airports if my infant daughter will be required to go through the body scanner, or do a pat down? If we go through the body scanner, can I hold her during the process? I am kind of worried how this will all work. I have only ever had to go through a metal detector with her, but I have not yet been through the body scanners or pat downs with her yet.
Answer: if they try to scan her with your hand luggage have a fit. as long as you do not come up suspicious there should be no problem, she may get a pat down for arms, bombs shives
Question: Why is it suddenly dangerous to give an infant cold medicine, yet SAFE to pump them full of vaccines? The FDA is now warning parents not to give over the counter cold medications to infants under 2 years old. Yet, they recommend you pump your child full of MULTIPLE vaccines all at one time, generally overpowering the infant's developing immune system. What kind of sense does THAT make??
I'm glad to see at least one medical practitioner who doesn't toe the standard medical line on vaccinations being perfectly safe for young children.
Answer: I'd rather my child be "pumped full of vaccines" as you so elegantly put it, than to be struck down with polio, measles, mumps, rubella, meningitis, or diphtheria, to name a few!
Question: How do you keep your infant from crying while shopping? I have an 11 month old infant who has a difficult time keeping entertained while I shop. The only way I can doing any shopping is if I know exactly what I want, purchase it, and then leave immediately. Whenever I need some time to browse, my 11 month old begins to fuss and eventually begins to cry. I've always fed and changed her before our outings so those reasons go out the window. Is there anyway that I can keep my daughter entertained better while I'm doing errands? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Answer: Hi
I totally feel your pain..... First remember this don't worry about those childless people (or even parents themselves) who'll give you dirty looks if you baby so much as cries while you are trying to shop.. They'll get over it and ig they donn't eventually they'll go somewhere else. Some people seem to think they were perfect angels when they were young (yeah right!)
Babies are going to cry... even if there is nothing wrong.
Babies cry to relieve stress too. Not just when they are hungry or need to be changed or tired.
Alot of time shopping in the morning not too long after the baby has gotten up and been fed. Not too close to nap time though : )
Sometime I bring cheerios and juice. Or I let them bring a toy... Once they get sick of that I give them my keys...
Also I saw another person mention letting them hold things that you put in your basket.... I do that too!
Have you tried those soft books? some of them have teething toys on them and some have different textures... like crinklly paper in them or something squeaky in them
If a pacifier works for you then go for it! I refused to give my kids a pacifier after 6 months old... it can hinder speech development. I see some mom's with 2 and 3 year olds that still have "binkies" and they think it's cute that the kid can talk even with the paci in their mouth.... Little do they know it's training the kid to talk like that... all garbled and such
But if it's the only thing that will work then it's up to you.
The only other thing I can think of is what I did when my daughter (I have 2 kids) was getting into the "difficult" stage
I just refused to take her with me..... If I ran out of milk.. too bad
We'd just have to wait for daddy to get home.. or I would just call him and have him get some on the way home.
Then when I had real grocery shopping to do... not just milk and eggs, I would have my husband take care of her while I shopped.
oh, I just remembered... do you have any musical toys? (what kinda question is that?) Or ones that have lights and stuff?
That always seemed to work for my 19 month old son.
He would be crying and just suddenly stop when he heard his toy. He would completely forget about WHY he was crying : )
Hope this helps!
Question: How do you pour concentrated infant formula without spilling it and wasting some? I just recently switched from powdered to concentrated infant formula. The problem is when i first open the can and pour the formula some of it spills out the side. I try to do it fast but it doesnt always work.
Answer: When I use concentrate, I open it over a pitcher, that way if it spills it's not wasted. Then I pour the rest into the pitcher and add the proper amt. of water. Then fill the bottles from the pitcher.
Question: What are some infant/toddler teacher education programs in the USA and Canada? What are some infant/toddler teacher education programs in the USA and Canada?

Question: What sedan holds a rear-facing infant car seat without having to move the seats forward? I'm looking to find a four-door car that holds an infant car-seat with the front seats all the way back. I have an '06 PT Cruiser and I have to move the seats almost all the way forward to put in the car seat. I am looking for a 2005 model or newer that gets better gas mileage than my car now (23 mpg). Thanks for the help!
Answer: I had a 2007 Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec V that I just traded in for a 2010 model. Love it. Car seat fits in it with no problem and I don't have to adjust anything. It gets about 35mpg highway/ 30mpg city.
Question: What is reasonable to charge for infant care in my home? I am not yet licensed,so it would be 1 family.
1 infant? 2 infants? 3 infants? Is it more or less for overnight?
It will be approx. 45hrs./wk.
Answer: i think $25.00 is standard for a child the whole day but for infants its always more expensive b/c it involves one on one. I think the ration is 1 person to two infants at most. I wouldnt do more than that or you wont be giving good care to the children. For infants its usually about $35.00 a day at home. In daycares, its up to $50.00 a day so im thinking $35.00 a day is very reasonable and they have to bring their own diapers and formula. Overnight im not sure how much it would be. It all depends if the baby sleeps throught he night or not. I would probably charge the same.
Question: How does it work without an infant carrier seat? I hate infant carrier seats. They are so heavy, large and bulky and annoying. I dont want to use it with my next one, but Im wondering what the alternative is. Mainly , where do I put the baby when we go to a resturaunt. For most other places, they can go in the stroller, or carrier that attaches to you, but what do you do in a resturaunt, when they are too small to fit in a highchair?
Answer: A baby carrier, Moby Wrap, Ergo Baby Carrier, Sling
Have someone hold them and take turns around the table
Stroller
Question: How do I go about sorting an infant school for my daughter? We have been in the area for over a year, and we are wondering if there is a waiting list for infant schools or a set procedure to follow?
Answer: Speak to your health visitor who will have a list of local schools and childrens groups. Go and have a look around a few schools (you should be able to just turn up as any decent school will have nothing to hide), watch the children and teachers interact. Ask a few parents in the area what their experiences are and make your decision. Then put your name on the waiting list at the school.
Good Luck! Remember to take your child with you to look at the school after all they will be going there.
Question: What can you tell me about private infant adoption? We may consider adoption as a way to complete our family, but it would be imperative to us that the infant be caucasian, and less than 3 months old.
What would be the likelihood of this, and what costs are associated?
Answer: Very possible, contact a home for unwed Mothers
