Question: Being culturally competent in social work is important so I want to describe my being culturally competent? I am a culturally competent individual in my language ability to speak Spanish. This helps me better able to relate to individuals that speak the same language because I can help meet their needs and assist them with services, resources, and information in their language choice. I also believe that my speaking Spanish will help me to relate and understand individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures. I am open to learning and working with different cultures and backgrounds and respecting our unique differences .
Answer: This sounds good.
Are you asking for more, though?
Question: What is the meaning of a self directed and competent person? What is the meaning of a self directed and competent person? Basically how would you describe him/her?
Answer: Hi I Swear,
A self directed person is a person that has a strong set of values, that listens to others but takes the ultimate decision by himself. This person will never break his most important values, no matter what others say or do.
He/she will never lie, cheat or do something that he/she thinks is immoral. He/she will respect it's own code of things to do and not to do even if he will get fired or lose some easy money by doing so.
This person knows exactly what he's/her goals are and has a written map of how and when those goals will become reality. Maybe one of the most important things that this person does is not ever, ever, ever giving up until he/she has reached the desired goals.
This person is strong. Maybe he/she wasn't like this in the beginning, but practice and perseverance made this person a model to others.
This person is competent because he/she can do what other can't. He can do things better and faster than others. People are sometimes envious on this person and think that it's all about luck, but it isn't. This person has payed and is paying the price for being so good: respecting himself/herself and others.
This person can't do anything he wants, like others do. For example, he can't just go to parties every night like others do. He/she has to do some things that aren't easy and fun, but these things give that person it's greatness. The person knows this and he/she knows the price he has to pay. He/she knows and accepts it because he want to be the best. He/she is self directed and no one can break this person.
Of course the person has his/her moments of doubt and fear, like any other human being, but the difference between this person and a normal one is a huge one: he/she will never accept hear or doubt, these are only passive states and he/she does anything possible to get out of this state as soon as possible. He fights bravely and kicks fear right in it's derrière.

Question: What kinds of careers are possible for someone who is competent/fluent in Japanese? I am taking classes in Japanese right now. I have always had an interest in their culture and almost everything about their society. I want to become competent/fluent in at least spoken japanese and possibly written although the latter is much more difficult. I am how I could make a career using this talent either in the US or Japan.
Answer: You could do Anime Subs/Dubs :D
Question: How do you know your cells are competent? Anybody know how to answer this question? Everywhere I look on google just sends me to places of where I can buy competent cells.
Answer: What strain do you have? Or is that the problem? If you aren't sure what cells you have, throw them away. You can simply "borrow" some from someone else (by just streaking them out on a plate with antibiotics if appropriate) and eliminate the uncertainty.
If you know the strain, you should be able to ascertain if they are appropriate for transformation by google searching. If you need to electroporate them, the protocol is fairly straightforward to prepare them (you basically wash the salts away). If you need to make them heat shock competent, it is a more complicated set of reagents. You could find both protocols online.
Question: Is electing a ruler who's competent and capable one of the objectives of Democracy? We know that the main objective of Democracy is to elect only that person who is supported by the majority of the population in a particular nation.
However, should that person be also ''competent'' and ''capable''? Is that one of the objectives of Democracy too?
If so, then, if a leader IS elected through the support of the majority of the people of a nation, but afterward it is seen that he is not competent and capable of leading the nation towards progress at all, will it be termed failure on the part of Democracy?
Or is it that Democracy does not deal with competency at all?
Answer: Democracy in the U.S. has an elaborate system to deal with the issue of competency. Not all U.S. presidents have been well regarded by the U.S. citizenry. Nonetheless, over two decades later, the American people enjoy the best freedoms in the world.
The forefathers of the United States believed that the best chance to preserve individual freedom was by democratic election. They trusted that U.S. citizens would each be careful in choosing a leader that was worthy of the U.S. presidency.
The forefathers put into place an amazing system of checks and balances. The constitution in conjunction with the Bill of Rights has proven to be magnificent legal documents that have protected Americans through time.
It is hoped that the president is not only competent and capable, but has the right vision to lead the country. If the president isn't competent and capable, the congress and senate will take on more power. If the president has a vision that is contrary to the liking of the citizenry, he will feel the pressure of the public through the media, demonstrations, his campaign supporters, his fellow party members and lobbyists.
--
By the way, the objective of a democracy is not to elect the person who is supported by a majority. Elections are the vehicle to choose a leader. The objective of a democracy is to create the best government which will protect the rights of the minority, maximize the freedom of the individual, and provide the services needed to provide just legal systems and effective security for the citizenry.
Question: How can a person who threatens/attacks a police officer ever be considered competent to stand trial mentally? One of the big decision makers for deciding if a criminal is competent to stand trial mentally is if they know what they did was wrong. A person is considered as not understanding what they did was wrong if they would do it in front of a police officer. Well, with this logic, how can a person who attacks, threatens or otherwise does a crime against a police officer ever be considered competent to stand trial (mentally speaking)?
Answer: Insanity has a legal definition. Being a moron doesn't qualify.
Question: Why is the Media more competent at doing Background checks on the Palins, than McCains people are? What of other issues that McCain would be ascertaining if elected President? - McCain and his advisers just aren't competent enough.

Question: How competent are Americans to participate in their own governance? Some food for thought...
Describe and explain the elitist and popular (i.e. participatory) models of citizenship. Which one, or more precisely what combination of the two, best fits the realities of life and politics in 21st Century America? How competent are Americans to participate in their own governance? Should citizens be expected to act as rational actors in politics? Are Americans sufficiently ideological in their approach to politics to be rational actors? Given your answers to the previous questions, when should the government be responsive to public opinion in the formation and execution of public policy? When should public officials resist incorporating public opinion into their policy making decisions?
Answer: You should really edit your questions so that they don't come straight out of your text book or test. E.g. "Given your answers to the previous questions, when should the government be responsive to public opinion in the formation and execution of public policy?" is clearly not your words.
I'll answer your basic question. It's clear that the voters in 2008 were not competent to elect a president. They voted for a change, but as Dr. Ben Minor, my professor in college, said "All change is not progress."
Now, the Tea Party movement is dedicated to educating the electorate about what it means to be an American voter.

Question: Why are physically attractive people on a first imperssion, considered smarter and more competent? A recent study has found that society in general tends to perceive physically attractive people (on a first impression) as smarter and more competent than physically unattractive people.
As far as gender, unattractive women were always perceived (on a first impression) to be less intelligent and incompetent, as opposed to men, where unattractive men were found to be just as competent and intelligent as attractive men who were perceived to be superior in all categories.
So according to this study, men don't really have to be attractive to be considered competent and intelligent, but attraction is a plus. Women on the other hand, are always perceived as unintelligent and incompetent if they're unattractive.
According to this study, this is all what people in general think of others on a first impression. If this is true, why would this be so?
Answer: stereotypically people think attractive people are dumb and won't try hard to achieve things.
but attractive women definitely give better first impression and we feel more drawn to them......it's life, and i do feel more attracted to attractive people.
but average looking can be good too depending on personality, some really stand out.
Question: How long on the average does it take for a person to be competent in self-defense with Aikido? I am NOT looking for it depends on the person.
I am looking for how long it took you as an Aikidoka before you felt competent in self-defense or the people you know who take Aikido how long it took them or how long you think it may take by being familiar with it somehow.
Answer: After 3 years or so, I felt confidant in using it against someone on the street. A woman in my class used it to defend herself 2 months after starting. Whether this is due to the difference between how men fight each other vs. how a man attacks a women (he grabbed her wrist - you can't get any simpler attack for Aikido to work with - she to broke his wrist with a nikkyo, kicked him the balls, and ran) - or a difference in training time (she was training 5 days a week - I only train 3 days) who knows.
While I personally think it's a difference in how a man would fight me vs. her, I can't help but be impressed that she picked up the nikkyo so quickly and effectively either. So there you go.
Question: Does the ability to prove all theorems belong to the qualification of a competent mathematician? I hope you could give me answers to this question, based on your experiences in the science of mathematics.
Does the ability to prove all theorems, or to solve all proof type problems, belong to the qualification of a competent mathematician?
Answer: No mathematician could possibly prove all theorems, or even one arbitrary theorem. To do that, the mathematician would have to be proficient in all mathematical specialties, and the field is simply too broad for that.
When Wiles and company finally proved Fermat's Last Theorem in 1995, they were amongst a small group of perhaps 100 people who could even understand the proof, let alone construct it. That number is larger today, I'm sure, but it's still probably pretty small.
But perhaps none of those people could construct the proof of a proposition in a completely different subfield of mathematics.
It's probably been at least a couple of thousand years since a mathematician could possibly prove even all the known theorems of the day. Maybe Archimedes, but I suspect not even then.
Question: Are the moderators that make judgments on yahoo competent of or they biased? I sure got a biased notification just now. So, I'm just wondering about the how competent the yahoo moderators are? What are your experiences?
Answer: Your Yahoo community peers are the real moderators. That includes all types of people... kind, unkind, fair, unfair, decent, indecent, etc...
Anyone can report you for just about any reason.
No... I don't see that as a good thing.
My experience is that some will work their way up levels, have multiple accounts and finally pick the hell out of one user until the account is suspended. Others will report even the least little chat question because they go nuts with making sure others follow the rules, even if they themselves... don't.
Question: Does a (healthy, mentally competent) adult in the US have the right to refuse to eat, and eventually starve? I have heard (though never experienced firsthand, nor known anyone who has) that police will often interfere, if they know a person is about to commit suicide. I've been wondering though, if a person simply refuses to eat, will they be taken and fed against their will? Assuming of course that they are an adult, and mentally competent. Is the act of refusing food enough for law enforcement to judge them as mentally incompetent?
Answer: Oh they can't let you starve. They'll strap you to a gurney and have a nurse put a tube into your stomach and pour food into the tube in order to keep you from starving.

Question: Can a competent home woodworker cut a Marlin 30-30 lever action wood stock? My son's first hunt is coming up and I was going to give him my old 30-30. However, he's small for his age and the stock is a little long. Is it possible for me to cut the stock without encountering issues or is this something a gunsmith should do instead? I'm a pretty competent woodworker.
Answer: Instead of chopping it down, you would be better off getting an entirely new one. Not only do you need to change the length, you need to adjust the rest of the stock to fit his smaller stature as well. Do you have any accessories built into the butt plate? I used to own a Winchester lever action with a cleaning kit built into the stock accessed by opening a small access door in the butt plate. If you are reasonably handy with tools and woodworking, you should be able to shorten the stock and make it look like a professional job, if all you are going to need is simply a shorter stock. Have you tried it to see how it fits now, without any changes? Still, I'd go with a new stock because if you cut the one you have, YOU won't be using it again, and when your son outgrows it, what then?
Question: What is a "competent actor" in regards to Sociology & being a part of a subculture? I'm currently working on a paper for my Soc 200 class and we have to choose a song that represents us (our "anthem"). We must relate it to the subculture it groups us into and answers some questions. Two I'm having trouble with are:
"In what way does the song help make you a “competent actor” in your subculture? How do competent actors in your subculture contribute to the broader society?"
Can someone explain to me what exactly a "competent actor" is?
Answer: A competent actor would be defined as one within the subculture that is able to be in that subculture efficiently or those who are actively involved in that particular subculture.

That's a good one too!
I'd love to see more examples!
Answer: Check out this video on United 232. Captain that day was Captain Al Haynes, who I've had the honor of meeting in person. Incredible story behind this crash.
