Left-Handed Marriage
A wedding ceremony where the husband gives his left hand to his bride, rather than his right.
Question: Should we ban left-handed marriage? I think that we should outlaw left-handed marriage. How can I get a proposition on the 2010 California election ballot that would make it illegal for left-handed people to get married? I don't think left-handed people should be allowed to get married. It's just wrong. It's unnatural. I mean I know it has absolutely nothing to do with my life and it doesn't affect my life in any way, but still, I don't like it. It's an abomination! I don't want my children being taught in school that it's okay to be left-handed! Hey, the homophobic religious fundies were able to outlaw gay marriage even though it didn't have anything to do with them or affect their lives in any way, but they were able to do it. I'm sick of left-handed people shoving their lifestyle down my throat! How can we ban left-handed marriage?
Actually they do give scholarships for left-handed people
Oh yeah I forgot-- left-handed people can't reproduce!
Answer: We should make it so if you're left-handed, you have to be sent to special camps where you will learn the sinfullness of your ways and turn back to being right handed! It is a personal choice after-all...
And conservatives call liberals dumb-a**ess. Let's base our arguments on movies like "I Now Pronounce you Chuck and Larry!" and other works of fiction like The Bible! Those are great sources of information!
Question: Is being left handed a perversion? I saw a video talking about this guy wanting to ban left handed marriages. I assumed he was mocking gay marriages, but in some cultures I know that they look down upon left-handiness.
Answer: No, being left handed is not a perversion.
I am not judgmental about gays although I do find the concept strange (call me old fashioned).
But being left handed is not necessarily comparable to being gay !
For one, my right and left hand both belong to me. It doesn't affect family structures or laws of the land.
And even if I were left handed, I would not be trying to get laws changed, traffic lanes changed or even door knobs relocated to opposite side just because I was left handed !
edit : Perversion commonly refers to abnormal behaviour by people whose perception of reality has been affected. It has a mostly sexual connotation and psychologists use the word Paraphilia to describe it.
I don't know why any natural born gay would want to reference perversion (correctly or incorrectly) in trying to draw attention to their cause.
Gay rights activists have consistently refuted biological theories linking homosexuality to any biological disorder. And yet, acknowledged that some are born gay
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biology_and_sexual_orientation#Biological_theories_of_etiology_of_sexual_orientation
and others turn gay with external influences. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exotic_Becomes_Erotic_theory#Exotic_Becomes_Erotic_theory )
Hand orientation on the other hand (pun intended) is developed in feti, most commonly determined by observing which hand is predominantly held close to the mouth.
The gene linked to increased odds of being left-handed is known as LRRTM1. Possession of this gene slightly increases the possibility of left-handedness
Interestingly, there is actually a theory linking hand orientation with sexual orientation !!!!!

This creates a complex situation
@hapadapa : Even though a few acivities can be taught, you can't forcibly change dexterity completely either.
I am not homophobic. Personally, I have gay friends and do wish them a happy family life.
But that does not eliminate the need for an objective discussion.

Question: who's the heir, left hand marriage? In my families a clan, if the my mother is from the family tree but my step father(who is the second husband after the first one passed away) is just a common man, as in a left-hand marriage, can the children inherit the household?if so, can i inherit it since i'm the eldest, a girl, daughter of the first husband/father. or can the kids of my step father inherit the household?
just in the question is dizzying, I'm born of pure blood, but my step brother is a month or two or more orlder than me(i made a mistake in the question), but he's not from the family tree
Answer: Since you say your family is a clan, presumably you live in Scotland, which has a similar but different set of civil laws than England and most of the United States--both of which base most of their inheritance law on English common and case law except in areas of the US settled originally by the Spanish. I'm no lawyer, but I'll fill you in on what a legal web site has to say.
Since your mother has a title and presumably owns all real property that goes along with it, she will have either made a prenuptial agreement with your stepfather and/or a will, which may have left him and his children a portion of her estate or perhaps a life interest in a portion of it. You haven't specified if you have any brothers. However, in both England and Scotland, sons inherit titles and their accompanying estates before daughters do. The oldest son inherits before younger sons.
According to what I have read, in Scotland, the first to succeed are the deceased linear (or direct) descendants. Thus, if your mother has no surviving sons or sons of her sons, female direct descendants (you and all of your mother's daughters) share equally in your mother's estate as well as any hereditary titles she might have.
If you have any questions, I suggest you contact your mother's barrister. He or she probably won't charge you anything for asking.
------
P. S. --- If you have a half brother through your mother, he gets the title and the estate. If he is only a stepbrother, he doesn't inherit anything unless your mother has made a provision for him in her will. Again, it's best to check with an attorney!
Question: Why does the left hand mean marriage?
Answer: This is more about why we wear a wedding ring on our left ring finger, this is what I found:
It was once believed that a vein of blood ran directly from the third finger on the left hand to the heart. The vein was
called vena amoris, or the vein of love, and early writings on matrimonial procedure suggested that it would be
appropriated for one's wedding ring to be worn on that special finger.
Question: In gay marriage, are the engagement and wedding rings worn on the left hand? May sound an odd question, especially as I'm gay myself! (yes, I am ashamed I don't know already.) But I have had different people, gay and straight, tell me different things. Would hugely appreciate if someone could clear it up for me once and for all. And in case you're wondering, I am asking this because I'm planning on popping the question. :)
Answer: Congratulations and good luck with that!
Left hand - the reason for the left is that it is the side nearest the heart - no other reason (OK - apart from the various most people are right handed and it is better to keep valuables on the less used hand issues).
Question: Can I have an explanation of how/why marriage bands came to be on the left hand, 4th finger? Any help would be appreciated.
Answer: There is a Major Artery there that connects to the Heart.
Question: Why is the marriage finger on the left hand?`Why so special? i was juss curious what makes that particular finger so special to be the marriage finger and why the left hand thanks!
Thank you I never really knew this until it was explained Thanks
Answer: They say that there is a vein in your ring finger that leads to your heart... not sure if it's true, but I've always heard that.
Question: why do women wear marriage ring on left hand? wedding ring preferred to be simple and both get the same shape and they have to wear it
Answer: It is said that the vein on the ring finger of the left hand reaches the heart directly and because the wedding ring is a symbol of true love it is worn in that finger.
Question: How has it become that we put rings of engagement & marriage on our left hand? How long has this been a? tradition?
I am just curious
Answer: I'm not sure how long the tradition has stood for but it was believed that the left hand's ring finger had a vein that led directly to the heart and being that the heart was/is believed to be the root of love.... Not all cultures follow this though, I could be wrong but pretty sure Germans (and possibly more) wear theirs on the right hand....
Question: In palm reading is it done on the right or left hand? I heard that women are on the left and men are on the right, or the right hand is for yourself? I'm a female and right handed. On my left hand I have all three lines, heart, life and head, and on my left I have two, one simian line and a life line. A simian line is a line with both the head and heart combined. Also is the marriage line on the left or right?
Answer: I was told that the right hand was for yourself and the left is what your husband will have. You have a simian line, I do too. For the simian relationship and marriage usually last but sometimes they don't
Question: which palm should you read to show marriages if you are left handed? both hands show two lines but they are diffrent, which hand should i read?
Answer: For lefties your left hand is your "physical hand" and your right is your "spiritual hand."
To look for actual physical important relationships look at your left hand.
For deep emotional/spiritual relationships, look at your right hand.
Since you have two on both, I'd bet the lines represent the same two people.
Question: Christians - did you know that being left-handed used to be considered unnatural, a sin, and part of the Devil? Honestly. Look it up. 100 years ago the Catholic Church believed that being left-handed was a sin and a part of the Devil because it was unnatural. They used to find some random quotes in The Bible to justify this, even though people don't believe that nowadays. Some kids would get whipped by nuns for writing with their left-hand, until they learned how to write with their right hand. They were told that being left-handed was "unnatural" according to God. Do you see any similarities here between gays being pressured to become straight by the Church because they are a minority, just like left-handed people? Nowadays violence isn't used, but do you see any similarities or comparisons there?
Is it possible to find random quotes in The Bible and interpret them a certain way that is not only cruel, but incorrect? Is it possible that your views against gay marriage (according to passages in The Bible) will also go down in history as being incorrect and immoral interpretations of The Bible?
Answer: Left-handers are STILL being held down by the man! I gots no left handed notebooks, left handed controllers, left handed scissors just don't work!!
Nothing but persecution!!!
Actually, by some crazy xtians it's STILL frowned upon. My cousin was forced to be right-handed when she went to a Christian Pre-k school.
Question: I don't have a marriage line on my left hand but have 2 on my right. which one should i look at? palm readings
Answer: This is clearly a case of the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. If you're concerned about marriage, don't look at your hands, look at your heart.
Question: I have a question about wearing a ring on your left hand? I have a beautiful ruby ring with little diamonds on it and I wear it on my left hand. Although I do have a live in boyfriend I am not married. A friend of mine recently said that I shouldn't wear my ring on that hand because of the symbolism of marriage. My boyfriend said that he could care less. I plan on wearing it anyway because I don't care what people think but I'm just wondering if it is improper somehow in our culture to do this.
Answer: It is not "improper," however, you are setting your self up for many questions, possible deceptions and misunderstandings.
It's your hand though, and you have every right to wear the ring if you please.
Just be prepared to have a press conference every day about the ring.
Question: why is it that in marriage ceremonies, rings are put in the left hand instead of the right hand? marriage ceremonies
Answer: Why is the wedding band worn on the left hand?
This custom started with the Egyptians. They believed that the vein located on the fourth finger of the left hand was connected directly to the heart.
Other reasoning associated with wearing the wedding band on the left hand could be because most people are right handed, so the ring is subject to less damage if worn on the left hand and also it is more typical to shake hands or reach for another person with the right hand thus avoiding injury related with the wedding band worn on the left hand.

Question: Do guys wear a ring on his left hand ring finger and not for marriage reason? I'm attracted to this guy whom i bump into once or twice a week in the mornings on the way to work. He notices me too and on a few occasions he tried to come closer to me me and i had this feeling he could be trying to catch my attention, however habitually i will avoid eye contact with someone i am checking out secretly so yeah, it could be my imagination. He wore a ring on his left ring finger all the time so i reckon he should be taken. Finally i muster the courage to look straight at him instead of looking down or afar when he turns towards me. Now i know he is checking me out as well. Should i even bother? Is it for sure the ring symbolises his marital status? Can any local guys shed a light if there are guys out there who wears one for other reasons? Maybe he is just checking out and nothing else..but i wonder if i should continue making eye contacts in hope that he will make a move some day, with the slightest hope that he is actually not married? what are the odds? if he is definitely married, then why do i bother at all, or even potentially go against my moral standards? Should i take a chance and let the situation unfolds or avoid it totally as it's gonna be a sure-lose situation? Thanks
further to my question after reading some kind replies here -
- i'm late 20s and he's about the same, or slightly older.
- im talking about Singapore context, is purity ring even popular?
- we haven't talked yet so i wonder should i even try to see if there's a chance to finally speak and then ask him directly..or i should just stop looking out for him from now on.
Thanks!
Answer: how old are you guys, it could be a promise ring saying you will 'wait' until marrage
Question: If you wear a signet ring on your ring finger, does it mean you have to have sex after marriage? This girl at my school told me that if you wear your signet ring on your left hand, ring finger, you are giving up your virginity to your parents until marriage.
Is this true?
Answer: Interesting ambiguity:
[you have to have s** after marriage]
The deontic modal can take scope over either of two segments according to the following parsings:
1) 'HAVE TO' [have s** after marriage]
or
2) 'HAVE TO HAVE S***' [after marriage]
yielding two distinct interpretations, although horny young estupidos will be more keenly interested in one of these, while more or less satisfied married couples will be concerned with the other.
Way to go, kids, you're learning to think ahead (no pun).
Question: What does 2 dark lines under pinky finger of a male's right hand indicate ? Does it mean he'll have 2 marriage? Also on his left hand under pinky finger, he has one dark line then a light line and then again a dark line under his pinky finger. Does it mean he would have 2 marriages?
ANY PALM READERS HERE ?
Please please only serious answers. Thanks a million for all those to put your precious time and effort to answer me. THANKS
Answer: The lines under pinky finger of the dominant hand indicates love affairs/marriages.
** fine thin lines indicate love affairs (so the number of lines will tell the no. of affairs while the long deep line indicates marriage. the closer the line is to heart line, the early the marriage and the closer the line is to the pinky finger, the late the marriage will be.
** if he has one deep line that starts from outside of the palm and reaches the inner side of the palm, then that is the marriage line. and if he has 2 of these, then unfortunately he will have 2 marriages.
The lines under pinky finger of the other hand indicates no. of children.
Question: Who chose the marriage finger? Why that one? just wondering, why is ur finger on ur left hand the engagement/marriage finger? any particular reason? and who/what decided?
Answer: It dates back to Ancient Egypt, who had the first known example of a wedding ring. The Ancient Egyptians and Roman believed that the third finger on the left hand ran was the one linked to the heart.
