Fair And Reasonable
The judicial standard for approving marital agreements. Note that in non-divorce areas of the law, there are no standards of fairness; winner takes all, and the lawyers fight to the death. In divorce, lawyers? zealous advocacy must be tempered by justice, however, divorce lawyers often act as if they represent the plaintiff in a personal injury case, trying to win at all costs without consideration of the consequences. Avoid these zealots.
Question: What is a reasonable/fair amount to pay for a brand new queen size mattress? My fiancee and I are just starting out in the world and don't own anything really and we are just getting ready to buy our first home, which will need lots of work, so we don't want to spend a lot of cash on furniture. How much would a cheap but decent one cost and where would be a good place to look for it? We are not intrested in used because I'm scared of bugs! Ewwws.
Thanks.
We live in the midwest.
Answer: You can spend anywhere from a few hundred dollars to several thousand dollars on a queen size bed. It will depend on the construction of the mattress, the style, and the quality of the materials used.
A good comfortable bed is important. You will spend almost 1/3 of your life in bed, and if it does not provide you with the support and comfort needed to rest, you will not be happy.
Things to consider include the weight of the two people who will be sharing the bed. If one is a lot heavier than the other, the lighter person can end up "rolling downhill" all night if the bed does not support the weight.
Do you want a firm or softer surface? Some mattresses have a pillow top style, others are just basic.
If you buy a cheap bed set, you will end up having to replace it in just a few years. Shop around, and if possible try different style mattresses before you make your choice.
Good Luck

Question: How is Equality of Results more fair and reasonable than Equality of Opportunity? This is for my Thesis Paper and I'm stuck. I can't thank of anything that would fit this, please help!
I don't think it is, but it's for my thesis paper and i have to show the other sides view on the exact same thing. So, that's why im stuck
Answer: One major downside to an "equality of opportunity" paradigm is that actual equality of opportunity is not fully interrogated.
That's to say, if a Black student went to a substandard public school with no lab equipment, and suffered health problems due to environmental degradation in his community, just ensuring that the college he applies to does not refuse admission to all Black students is not sufficient to ensure that he has "equal opportunity" to attend as a White student who went to a well-funded school and grew up healthy. Clearly, even though the college admissions office does not de jure privilege one over the other, refusing to consider elements beyond race (but related to race) that affect opportunity potential puts the Black kid at a disadvantage.
Ensuring equality of results is a much less practical and clear paradigm for improving access to a whole host of opportunities, but some element of it needs to be included to account for the fact that "equality of opportunity" only really applies if everyone begins on relatively equal grounding, that a history of oppression has not influenced one's ability to get to the door in the first place, much less have it opened.
But I don't think "equality of results" needs to effect the outcome the other poster feared. To continue with an education example, it is not that, if both the Black and White students above were admitted, they must automatically receive the same grade at the end of the first term. Instead, it should be recognized that the Black student may require resources to achieve his potential that the White student will not require. There is the assumption that because the Black student does not know how to use a Bunsen burner, for example, that he is not intelligent enough to continue in the sciences Rather, his inability to do so stems from the same place as my inability to fly a plane: we don't have access to that information at this time. Raising our eyes to the inequalities of access helps to achieve this "equality of results."
Basically, my point is that we should not pat ourselves on the back for admitting at-population proportions of people of color to colleges and universities if they are not given the resources and support they need to succeed when they get here. Aiming for "equality of results" forces us to examine more fully the barriers to access that are sidestepped when we speak only of "equality of opportunity."
God, that was rambly. Hope it's helpful, and good luck with your paper.
Question: What makes a rule fair and reasonable? What qualities should a rule have to be considered fair and just?

Question: Is it fair& reasonable to accuse anyone urging UStroops to pullout from IRAQ is a gutless, unpatriotic, idiot? Some people, the neocons and other warhawks, have made these accusations about Democrats in general and some retired Republican,Democratic,Independent generals and admirals.
Please elaborate on your answer, if you can or dare.
TWH 08182006
My Q says nothing about desertion or breaking the laws. Where do you people come from? Can you read ordinary english? TWH 08242006
Who said "to pull out" not= "to cut and run "? I didn't! you who say these things must be incapable of objective discussion or else you are practicing demagogery(look the word up and digest it's meaning).
Some answered with the Q "Is there a Q here?" No, not if your brainless and ordinary English is gibberish to you!
Barometer, just look at some of the other Answers to my Q, anyone favoring a pull out at some defined point gets labeled in the way I describe.Senator Chuck Hagel and Representative John Murtha have both been calling for withdrawal and both have been savaged by extremists in the right wing of the Republican Party.
Hagel is a conservative Republican from Nebraska and Murtha is a conservative Democrat from Pennsylvannia. Both are decorated Vietnam veterans with purple hearts and medals of valor earned in combat. TWH 08252006
scourge, ask your own Q's and try answering the Q asked rather than trying to put down the asker or the Q which you are using as an opportunity to show your stripes.
angel, when you reached the point of saying that anyone advocating a withdrawal/pullout (details to be worked out to achieve goals as far as possible) is unamerican you are the reason why I asked the Q. I am sorry for your personal loss but this general Q is an enquiry into the reasonableness of pasting labels on people who are as American as you are. Your not the only one who has suffered for their country. Many of us have parents and grandparents who were injured or died fighting previous wars so their kids and grandkids could enjoy freedoms and rights under our Constitution. I think you need to expand your scope and look at things more objectively. TWH 08252006
Answer: It is neither fair nor reasonable. True patriots want these mostly young folks to come home now. The invasion was all based on lies anyway. i.e. wmd, ties to el Queda, ad nauseum ad finitum.
Question: Where to buy fair to reasonable twin clothes and mercndise? I'm five months along with fraternal twins,a single mother to boot with a three yr old. I need to find somewhere that I can get car seats and such.
Answer: Find your local mothers of multiples club and join. Meet some moms in your position and see if they can help.
Try posting on Craigslist and Freecycle, but I would be very wary of used carseats!
If you have a natural birthing center near you check and see if they take up supplies for mothers in need?
Thrift stores, consignment stores, and YARD SALES! =)
Question: Why is it that I try to give fair and reasonable answers except generally in the politics when I am a cynical?
Answer: JUST CARY ON AS YOU ARE , YOU PUT DAMN GOOD Q@A ON HERE A LOT OF US VALUE ,
Question: Is it fair & reasonable to assign your 10 year old kid 20 hours worth of chores per week? My friend makes his 10 year old boy do house and yard work every day for a total of 16 to 25 per week for a mere $10 allowance. When I told him that this was exploitative he got angry with him. I'm not about to call Child Protective Services, but I am upset to hear about the kid. I can't even go to my friend's house anymore because it breaks my heart and angers me to see a young kid working so hard. What do you think? If you're parents, do you do this to your children?
Answer: That's more than some adults work in a week. On top of 40 hours a week schooling plus about 10 hours a week homework at that age, that's between 66 and 75 hours a week of work/labour before sleep and, God forbid, some time for relaxation, is allowed. That is extremely excessive and unfair, and not representative of most adult's lives, which is surely the point in all this, to prepare them for the future. I believe children should have chores certainly, but these should be second in priority to homework first of all, and be age appropriate. The thought of a 10 year old doing all that upsets me. I wonder what he's leaving for the parents to do? If your figures are correct it sounds to me like they're using him as a skivvy to permit their own laziness.
Question: What are common (fair, reasonable) babysitter rates? I'm 17, and I am going nuts to find a job to save money for activities, a car, college, etc. Since I can't seem to get a real job (partially I guess because of the economy lately), I'm thinking seriously of advertising babysitting around my neighborhood and other nearby neighborhoods. What are typical rates for babysitting? Besides per hour, how would they fluctuate by age adn number of children? By the way, I am in FL and have experience from volunteering for two summers at the preschool at my church with mainly 4 year olds, but also all other ages through elementary school. I also have other volunteer experience with job0like settings and people skills.
Answer: I pay my babysitter $5/hr to watch my six month old son. She watches him for 2 hour m-f and makes $50/week. Before he was in a daycare and I paid $145/week no matter how often or little he went which I think is ridiculous. I think $5/hr is reasonable for one child, for two I would say $6.50, more then two though I'm not sure. Also how often you watch them matter, if it's daily then I do an hourly rate, if it's an occasional thing(Friday/Saturday nights)then I would ask for a flat rate of $25-30 depending on how long you are watching them(at least 4 hours, if less then $20.
Question: Is this a reasonable science fair experiment? Well, this may seem a little easy, but it's for a grade and we have to do one so I don't really want a difficult one.
I will be testing which metal conducts electricity the best, how could I measure this and do different metals even conduct electricity differently?
Answer: measuring the resistance of a piece of metal cannot be done with an ordinary multimeter, as the resistances are much too low, way less than an ohm, for that to work.
here are some numbers for different metals, you can see the difference:
resistivity Ag 15.9 (nΩ-m)
resistivity Cu 17.2 (nΩ-m)
resistivity Au 22.14 (nΩ-m)
resistivity Al 28.2 (nΩ-m)
resistivity Fe 100 (nΩ-m)
resistivity W 56 (nΩ-m)
you can get a coil of fine copper wire at radio shack and that is long enough so you can use a multimeter.
The problem is getting wire of other materials. Iron or steel would be good, as it has a high resistance. Check at hobby shops or online. Online you can get iron or steel wire or aluminum wire.
In order to do this test, you will need equal lengths and equal thicknesses of each metal.
good luck.

Question: Do you think that Pinoy Big Brother (PBB) was fair & reasonable in revealing the votes prior to the big night? To answer the question:
In a contest/game/competition, there are rules to be followed and I believe that one of the most sacred things that MUST REMAIN CONSTANT AND UNTOUCHED is the voting process that would determine the winner. For example, if we are to consider the game "Survivor", the rules for eliminating a player and choosing the ultimate survivor remained constant throughout all seasons. If not, the host would announce the changes during the first Tribal council (extra immunity idols in the recent seasons, etc). Another example is the "Amazing Race", a non-elimination round is always said to be "pre-determined" (this means that even before the contest began, the creators already decided which rounds would there be no one eliminated).
Now the only thing that would make the revealing of votes right in PBB is IF AND ONLY IF the revealing of votes is "pre-determined" -> This means that before PBB DOUBLE UP started, they already decided to reveal the votes prior to the big night.
For the record, I also didn't like how they changed the voting to the usual "voting for" a housemate to a balancing of "voting for and against" a housemate wherein Carol was constantly saved by "voting for" for 3 straight weeks (i think). However when the rules were changed, she was eliminated because many people clearly disliked her. : (
Yes, I know that Melai is a rightful winner, no doubt about it. It's even more exciting that she won because it shows that underdogs (people who have less could win over the likes of Paul Jake, who is already established and well off in life) Now, i am not saying that Melai is "less" of a person since in the eyes of God, everyone is equal. However let's face it, we are happier that Melai won over Paul Jake but if the creators of the game didn't manipulate the voting process (revealing the votes), Paul Jake would have won. If you noticed, even before they showed the votes, the hosts (Tony and Mariel) kept mentioning that IBOTO NIYO NA ANG INYONG PABORITONG HOUSEMATE DAHIL BAKA ANG INAAKALA NIYONG PAMBATO NIYONG NANANALO AY SIYA PALANG NAHUHULI. If we were to rephrase this, it's obvious that it would translate to: "Akala niyo mukhang nananalo si Melai dahil maraming tumatangkilik sa kanya at nakakakilig sila ni Jason pero ang hindi niyo alam, lumalamang na si Paul Jake".
Answer: Yeah. But at the end of the day, its their rule. We just have to deal with it.
Question: Do you work in a job where you have targets, and is your boss fair and reasonable about the targets?

I have been given a violation notice for a question I neither asked or answered
There is NO REDRESS or way to contest this as any e-mails get a robotic response which does not address your reply ( is is even READ! I think not)

Answer: You're kidding, right?
Question: Christians: If God's justice was fair and reasonable in the Old Testament...? ...why should I be so happy he's changed the rules? Why should I want special treatment and not be judged fairly by the perfectly reasonable and proportionate old rules?
Answer: Believe me, you don't want fair! Those rules were established to illustrate that when people don't follow the rules, the punishment can be harsh. The Old Testament is filled with hundreds of examples of second, third, forth, and fifth, chances. Instead of looking for facts that you can dispute, try to read it for what it is; an example of how often God's people were told the way to live and how many times they enjoyed the favor of God, until they chose to go it on their own. There are many examples of God's Justice being withheld from those deserved it.
Jesus came to give Grace to the world. Grace is a gift given to those who do not deserve that gift. Grace has saved me; if you want Justice, you just may get it, good luck with that.
Question: What is a fair and reasonable consequence for...? A teen that tell their parents..."Get the F$%^ out of my life!"?
Answer: Hmm, I'd surround them as much as possible just for that. I'd make them tell me where they are 24/7 and report as to what they're doing etc. I'd also visit them at random times.
That, or you could simply not buy them food and clothes etc.

Question: Does anyone else here think it only fair and reasonable that anytime an account is suspended, the offending? answer be be included? I can appreciate that they don't have time to specify reasons, but, as things stand, it's like punishing a child, without telling them what they did wrong. If they at least included the transgression, the suspendee could work out what they did that warranted suspension.
Answer: Good question and answers
Hitting the wrong key has happened to me also and I do believe there should be some reason given for the removal of a question. I have seen where some people have a question and then leave remarks about the people that leave an answer. I have seen where soem questions and response become personal attacks and inflamatory remarks occur. I will flag that kind of behavior.
Our perception of a situation can either helps us to be a stronger and a more lovable person or can cause to be bitter and agitated.
I hope if someone is offended by what I do or say, that they would come to me, so we could discuss the whole issue.
