Polyandry
Having several husbands at the same time.
Question: Why does the United States not legally permit polygyny or polyandry?
Answer: Except for DOMA (the constitutionality of which must certainly by reviewed by the Supreme Court at some point), the federal government makes no laws governing marriage. The states make laws on marriage, parent-child relationship, adoption, and other family law.
Thus far, state legislatures reflect the popular will by providing for marriage standards which confirm to traditional views.
Of course, adults may enter into relationships with multiple partners legally, either informally or through contract (other than marriage).
Question: Can anyone tell me of countries they know that practice polyandry ? Please help its for a project thank you so much
Answer: Tibet
Question: Why is polyandry so rare? When is it advantageous for a population to practice polyandry?
Answer: Polyandry serves as a form of birth control- no matter how many partners a woman has, she can only have one pregnancy at a time (as opposed to polygamy- a husband with multiple wives might impregnate all of them, thus having more children.)
Polyandry & Polygamy are rare in humans because of pshychology of humans. Most humans would not like to share their partners with others.
Question: Would you feel comfortable living in a society where polygamy and polyandry (in equal measure) were the norm? I mean, a society were there could be a group of people all married to each other, like a communal household.
Answer: Since your asking about "public policy", - then I would say 'no'.
It would be 'bad' public policy to diminish the status of the best and preferred way to create a family, and subsequently raise children.
No Hitlary, - it doesn't "take a village".
Question: Should polygamy and polyandry be legal if it is with consent? I'm not saying I plan on becoming a polygamist.
Answer: Yes.
Consenting adults should be able to do what they want.
Anyone who tries to protest, is doing so out of a mislead religious bigotry, and religion should be kept out of the laws.
However, I live in Salt Lake. We have FLDS polygamists here, and those fundamentalists are crazy. Their brand of polygamy does not involve consenting adults, but children as young as 12 being married off against their will, often to cousins or uncles. THAT kind of polygamy should not be allowed.
Do not think my endorsement of non-traditional marriages includes unwilling child-brides.
Question: What do women think about polyandry? Do you girls or women like the idea of being married to many men and being able to have sex with all of them?
Answer: Just stay single. What's the difference?
Question: Should polyandry be encouraged as a way to help reduce the population and support children better?
Answer: it is in some places, Nepal has it, usually brothers sharing a wife, one works in the mountains while the other works at home changeover every couple of weeks, and they keep their land from subdividing through the generations.
group marriage sounds like a better proposition to me, several husbands and wives together, reduce the housing crisis, better childcare and family finances, etc
Question: When do you think the world will be ready to accept gay polyandry?
Answer: Ah, I see what you did there.
But on the whole,
we live in a very jealous,
possessive and culturally restrictive MONO-society.
Some places being worse than others..
Question: What are the benefits of polyandry? For Anthropology class, what benefits does polyandry provide? (polyandry means a woman has more than one husband)
Answer: Having lived for 2 years, in a society where Polyandry is practiced (Nepal), I observed that most often, a woman who had 2-3 husbands, was married to salt traders, who would pack their salt on the backs of their goats, and take it to India, to sell...
Most often, she would be married to 2-3 brothers, which would be away, and when one of them returned, the other would leave...
She had the home, raised the children, and stayed in one location, while the men would move around, and bring back money to the family. It all seemed quite natural, like an extended family. It wasn't just about sex!
Question: Can anyone tell in which part of world Polyandry is practised?
Answer: A form of polyandry is practiced in Tibet where a girl will marry a set of brothers. I don't know of anywhere else in the world it is currently practiced in any form
Question: Men would you enter into a polyandry marriage? Why or why not.
Answer: No. The basic instinct arises there - I would be happy to accept a polygamous marriage, but not a polyandrist one.
Question: Women please, what is your idea about polyandry(one woman marry with more than one man at same time)? Do you think it has advantages or disadvantages? Have you ever thought if you could marry in this way?
Answer: LMFAO! There is only about an hour a day that I would like to have more than one husband, and honestly, the other 23 hours in the day would NOT make up for that one hour.
Men are way too needy and I don't have the time or patience to cook for and clean up after a house full of them.
Question: If life is so fair then why doesn't Sims 3 allow polyandry? I just want to marry my Sim Isiaiah Mustafa and my Sim Taylor Lautner. Why won't it let me?
Could I have more than one wife? Or a husband and a wife?
Answer: Oooh, I could marry Guillermo Diaz and Aaron Paul!!!
Question: What do you understand by "polygyny","polyandry" and" polygamy"?Which may be takenas granted in Most India?
Answer: According to Sociological explorations,I gathered various threads about different
modes of marriage have been in practices by
different communities.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
1polygyny:
Having more than one wife at a time
-------------------------------------------------------------------
2polyandry:
Having more than one husband at a time
--------------------------------------------------------------------3-polygamy:
Having more than one spouse at a time
------------------------------------------------------------------
first one refers to a man who possess more than one wife.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
second one refers to a woman who deals with more men.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
third one refers to both man and woman.
---------------------------------------------------------------
All the three are against the law of the Land in our Country India.
As per the constitution of India no man or woman can marry more than one spouse at a time.
Question: can Polyandry be useful for highly sexual women ? classically male sexuality represents potency and power but nothing could be more wrong since a man can make love only once or twice but a woman or a gay can make love to a man then a second then a third and so on, The question arises naturally for highly sexual women would it be useful taking a second lover or even a third ?
Answer: Why not, as long as it's between consenting adults no harm in it.
Question: What are your views on polygamy? Polyandry? I am reading Under the Banner of Heaven right now. Reading this major belief towards polygamy in the FLDS religion is, frankly, disturbing to me. I do not personally believe in polygamy or polyandry. I was just interested on your thoughts..
Answer: In my belief polygyny (to marry more than one woman) is right and Polyandry is not in benefit of the society.
If you compare the men/women ratio, women are much more in quantity than men. If one man has to take only one woman that what will happen to other women hwo are no taken? that is the reason polygyny seems to be all right.
While polyandry (more than one husband) does not seem feasible to maintain a good social conduct. One woman can never prove to be helpful for more than one husband because of her physical restrictions (mensis cycle etc.) and suppose if a woman has two husband and she gives birth to a baby, there will be much confusion to determine who is the father of this child.
Question: What is your opinion of polygamy/ polyandry? Opinions?
Answer: It's not good - it's not the way God intended & it is also illegal.
Question: do you agree that humans would be happier & more peaceful if "polyandry" becomes the law & the way to marry? ? Most marriages are done according to religious laws .Religions are the root of hate & jealousy & racism .
Polyandry plus some polygamy is the solution .
Do you agree ?
Answer: nope, I don't agree, My report card says "does not share well with others" we are one on one only
Question: Are there any practicing polyandry groups in the United States and if so why don't we hear of them?
Answer: There aren't any.
Question: if the society/law accepts polyandry would you do that? if your religion, your country, your society accept the practice of multiple husbands,...would you do that?
explain your reason and tell me if you are a guy or a woman.
Answer: I think this would be a great idea in America.
With the huge divorce rate in this country, a women needs multiple supporters to get any consistent financial aid for the kids.
It seems to work in a small village in Africa.
