Urfi marriages are unregistered/undocumented marriages in Egypt.
Question: Does secret marriage (Nikah 'urfi) still exist in Arabic countries, especially in Saudi Arabia? How that works? I know it is common in Egypt, but how about in Saudi Arabia?
It is similar to the Nikah ceremony. An urfi marriage is a marriage without an official contract. Couples repeat the words, "We got married" and pledge commitment before God. Usually a paper, stating that the two are married, is written and two witnesses sign it. Most Islamic countries do not recognize 'Urfi marriages. Neither partner can get a 'legal' divorce since the government does recognize the legality of the marriage in the first place.
Answer: excuse me My English is not that good but i will try to answer your question
Mirage conditions ( if one of them missing the mirage is off or is not right )
- announce the husband and the wife , that means the man knows the women he is marrying and the women knows the man she is marrying .
- they both agree on each other. with no interfere from anybody else
- the woman must have someone in charge ; her father, brother, grandfather, uncle, ....
- two adult men to justify the mirage.
- they both , the man and the woman , are available ( umm hard to describe ) I'll tell you a story .. once upon time there was two women one of them delivered a boy and the other one delivered a girl ... the boy or the girl has been breast-fed from the other's mom.. 25 years later the boy wants to marry the girl. then, he can't because she is like a sister to him...
these are mirage conditions or rules I remember...maybe there are more... but these are concerned with your question
In Saudi Arabia, if one of those rules is not applicable then the mirage won't go on.
'urfi marriages are not recognized here in saudi arabia... because it misses some of the rules or conditions I mentioned earlier. and it if the man slept with the woman it'll be considered as an adultery criminal. as far as I know
the legal divorce in 'urfi marriages is to burn or cut the paper singed by the man and the woman... which, imo, shows how wrong this mirage is... I am not here to judge
I hope that I answered your question
Question: Is an urfi marriage ok? I am american, im going to egy in march to marry my fiance. Would an urfi marriage be acceptable...so that I can stay at his apartment? We would be working about the proper marriage procedure after this still. Is that possible? He is muslim and we want to do everything correctly and morally so any help would be appreciated. We are both confused about the marriage process. And we are finding very little information.
Answer: It is okay,as long as you follow the traditions of a muslim marriage and traditions.
Question: Need info on Orfi/Urfi marriage please!!? A friend of mine has been to Egypt a few times this year & has become close to an egyptian guy she met there on her first visit. She recently told me she plans to marry him there on her next visit & i am the only person she has told about here in the UK, as she is worried her mother wont be happy about it. She has mentioned different types of marriages they might do there & i am worried she might be rushing into things & making a mistake. I am also worried as the people she has made friends with there, including the guy she intends to marry, know she comes from a well off family. I am worried the guy has talked her into marriage for his own gain some how, due to the fact he knows her family are well off financially.
If anyone can explain to me the differences between the types of marriages in Egypt & any problems she would be likely to encounter later on down the line, i would really appreciate it.
She mentioned to me about one type of marriage that would mean nothing once she returned to the UK & i am worried she has been lied to & end up in some kind of trouble for still being married in years to come, should their relationship end at any point after the marriage in Egypt.
Answer: I am not quite sure how it works, but what i do know a few of my friends have married men from different culture's from our own, and they are treated horrible by them, In my opinion I would not trust any of them, they have a weird culture I would certainly try and talk her out of it, who knows maybe when she marries him he might not allow her to leave the country at all,it could be the worst mistake of her life, Surf the internet and see can you find out anything,
Good luck

I know it is common in Egypt, but how about in Saudi Arabia?

BASIC NEEDS: You just copied and pasted what I wrote above! What is the point?
The misyar marriage is more for pleasure, Nikah Urfi is another kind of marriage that could be related to love, but I still can not figure out yet.
Answer: Correct me if I am wrong but I believe it is also called a misyar marriage. Yes it does occur in Saudi Arabia....I even hear stories about Saudi men who have secret wives just for business trips...so they can travel with a companion! I no idea how common this is however...
There are many types of "permissible" marriages contracts...which (no surprise) seems to benefit the men more than the women. I think the Shia also have a tradition similar to this called a mut'ah marriage. Muta means temporary marriage so it might not be the same as "secret" marriage.
PS
Yes I found a bit of information about it. Geez, it even performed by a cleric...I can just imagine what a disaster this can be for someone who has no idea what they are getting into. Yes you are right it is not officially recognized at all. Most of the sources that I read talk about Urfi marriages being popular in Egypt.
Im not sure what you are looking for exactly..but this website looks like it could point you in the right direction... its about invalid marriages...
