Adoption Agencies
An organization that is licensed in the state or states where it transacts its business, which is to assist in placing children needing parents with adoptive parents that are looking for children. Agencies exist in a wide variety of organizational forms, including non-profit, not-for-profit, for-profit, and governmental agency. Although the legal impact of the organizational or business structure of an adoption agency may be different, the services that they are licensed to provide are generally very similar.
Question: Adoption agencies? My husband and I are looking to adopt a baby. We’d prefer a domestic adoption, but we still cant afford an adoption agency. I’d really like a newborn for my first. I want the whole experience. Later we plan to adopt a child from foster care. I know many people say if you cant afford an agency how can you afford a child, but not a lot of people realize agencies generally cost about 25,000. What parent has that laying around? Serious answers only please
Answer: I think that it is unfair for them to charge that much. No wonder so many children go through their lives in foster homes and group homes. I think that You should be required to take classes and then have to get a certian grade in them to be able to adopt a child. Other things like that not charge 25,000
I know of one adoption agencey, it is in sonoma county, in California...
The agency is called "True To Life Childrens Services" they are non profit, and assist alot of children and families.
Question: What adoption agencies did George Tiller refer to? I DO NOT WANT AN ABORTION MORALITY DEBATE! I'VE HEARD ANYTHING YOU COULD POSSIBLY SAY.
For the purpose of research, I was wondering if anyone knew what adoption agency or agencies the late Dr Tiller referred to (I know he tended to use one specific one.)

Question: What adoption agencies handle adult adoptions in the State of Virginia? What adoption agencies handle adult adoption in the State of Virginia? Do you know by any chance?
Cordially,

Answer: I don't think you need an adoption agency, just a lawyer.
Question: What are good ir not liscened adoption agencies or orphanages in the Philippines? I am thinking of adopting sometime in the future. But I am out of the country, nor am I familiar wih Manila adoption agencies. What are the well known or recommended orphanages in the Luzon or Manila area?
Answer: This may or may not answer question about particular agencies, but it's good info about the adoption process in the Philippines.

Question: Adoption Agencies....? Does anyone know any good International Adotion Agencies?
Money is not the problem. I don't understand how I would go about adopting from another country. Can someone please explain the process? Can someone recommend an adoption agency, maybe one you've used or a friend to adopt a child
Answer: Can you be a little more specific? Is there a particular country program you're looking at? There are some large agencies with many country programs and some smaller ones with only a couple of programs.
Here are a couple of sites:
www.adoptionagencyratings.com
www.jcics.org
www.informedadoptions.com
Also look at the US state department sites on intercountry adoption (it's country-specific). A good overall look at the international adoption process is presented in the book "How to Adopt Internationally."
IA is a daunting process. Parenting adopted children from another country has a lot of challenges. Start by information gathering. Email me if you have any specific questions.
Best of luck to you.
ETA: Sorry, I'm having trouble adding the links!
Question: Does anyone know of some adoption agencies that allow for younger parents to adopt? Like ages 18-24? I would love to do an international adoption! It's just something I've always dreamed about. I've read on several websites and most of them only allow people 25+ to apply, sometimes 30+. Since the wait can normally be so long I'd like to apply a year or two before then. Does anyone know of international agencies that allow this? If not, it's really not a problem. I'll just wait. Any advice on international adoption would be appriciated. Thank you!
Answer: It's a decision made by the country you adopt from primarily.
Ukraine is 18 for parents age.
check out this website. we are using her for our second Ukrainian adoption:

Question: If babies are so unwanted then why do adoption agencies need to advertise? I learned about adoption by the time I was 5. I knew about CPS by the time I was 5 also. If I remember correctly I threatened to call them on my parents.
Why do adoption agencies need to spend millions of dollars advertising adoption if women indeed didn't want to raise there kids. Wouldn't there be a line for Mothers to drop off their kids if children really weren't wanted by their mother's?
Answer: I have seen the ads from Gladney on Sunday mornings...the row of ducks and the one puppy or something equally stupid. The words...something to the effect, "When you are not ready to be a parent, aren't you glad the someone else is?" and aren't you thankful that there is a place like good old Edna that will be happy to take that little bundle of joy off your hands and place it in the arms of someone who can ante up the price!!! They make me ill!!! I hate them, hate them, hate them!!!!
And, of course they have to advertise, and they work hard to convince women that they are not good enough to raise their own babies. That's what they get paid for!
Question: Does it cost money to look on Better Business Bureau to research Adoption Agencies? Hi,
I want to verify some of what the adoption agencies I'm interested in have been saying. Does it cost money to search the online database? I am aware that some adoptive parents that sign onto an Agency have gag orders, but should that really stop them (Actually, I should make that another question entirely!)?
If any one knows the answer to this question, it would be greatly appreciated.
Answer: You don't say whether you are adopting domestically or internationally, but I have found the Adoption_Agency_Research yahoo group to be much more informative than BBB about people's experiences with their international agencies. They are a very committed bunch of parents in this group, no agency reps or adoption social workers allowed, and they are mostly concerned with what is in the best interest of the CHILDREN, not just the anxiously awaiting PAPs. (and yes, unfortunately, some agencies do have "gag orders", and you can get sued if you "violate" it. AAR has a list of agencies with such clauses.)
That's great that you are doing your research; too few PAPs care to go through the trouble, because they (some, not all) want THEIR babies NOW! Then they find out later about irregularities or corruption surrounding their child's true circumstances. Using a reputable agency can make a world of difference in your, and you child's, peace of mind down the road.
Question: If it's illegal to sell children, how do adoption agencies get away with doing just that? It's illegal for people to sell their children to one another - a law I think we probably need to keep - so why are adoption agencies allowed to charge prospective parents more than the procedural costs? In doing so, they're making a profit off of the transfer of a child from one family to another, which is the same thing as selling them. Shouldn't adoption agencies be run by the government or forced to become non-profit organizations?
Answer: Some lobbyists, Adoptive parents, representatives, religious groups...etc...have legitimized it and pow! It's a business.
Very little in Canada resembles the adoption circus industry in the US and I believe the UK and Australia can say the same.
So...I think it sucks and turns children into a commodity that can be priced according to colour for example...you know...clearance sales.
Even non-profit agencies profit on some level.
I have learned so much over the last months...and that is one thing I cannot support in any way. It is selling children.
Question: How many kids are in Adoption Agencies in the US? I have to write an essay for social studies, and i was wondering approximately how many kids/children are in adoption agencies in the united states? please help!
please help!
Answer: There are 3,000 adoption agencies in the United States. I'm not sure how many children are in each agency.
Question: Is it illegal in the USA for adoption agencies to only help adoptive parents of their particular faith? From searching for adoption agencies in Ohio and Kansas, it seems to me that adoption agencies mainly help Christian prospective adoptive parents, and ignore people of other faiths who want to adopt.
Answer: Nope, it's not illegal for private agencies to serve clients of a specified religion. These agencies claim religious affiliation, and that is their right. There are a large number of agencies who do require some kind of statement of faith, or to talk to officials from the prospective adoptive parents' church, synagogue, mosque, etc. Private agencies have a lot of leeway in what they're allowed to do with their policies.
However, it is illegal for state social workers to discriminate on the basis of religion when approving parents to adopt from foster care. I suggest anyone considering adoption at least look into foster care adoption, because there are thousands of children waiting for loving and permanent families, who would benefit from a good home.
Question: where do i start looking for adoption agencies? My husband and I are looking into international adoption. We are in the UK. Should we be looking for an adoption agency in the uk that deals with adoption abroad or should we be looking for an adoption agency based in the country we would like to adopt from?
Any website or addresses much appreciated.
Thanks in advance for all answers.
Answer: You still need to go through a social worker (social services or adoption agency) if you want to adopt internationally.

First steps for adopting a child from overseas
If you wish to adopt a child from overseas you should speak to either:
your local authority (LA)
a voluntary adoption agency registered to provide an intercountry adoption service
Contact details for both of these can be found on the intercountry adoption section of the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) website.
Question: Do any adoption agencies exist that are open to vegan adopting parents? I'm looking for an adoption agency that is open to adoptive parents that are totally open about their vegan diet. Are you a vegan looking to adopt? Are you a vegan who has successfully adopted? I'd like to hear from you! Thanks.
Please respond only if you are a vegan who is looking to adopt, if you know of a specific agency who openly states that it welcomes vegans/vegetarians, or if you are a vegan who has successfully adopted. Thanks!
Answer: My wife and I successfully adopted a child from Romania and the topic of our diet was not mentioned once. We are not completely vegan and our healthy lifestyle has never been an issue. I'm wondering why you are making it one.
If the agency challenges the fact that you are a vegan, I would just be prepared with evidence showing that a low-fat, low-carb vegan diet is the healthiest diet around for kids and for their parents. Be prepared. Good reference sources include Dr. Dean Ornish. Studies show that milk/dairy is not the best source of calcium. We eat leafy green vegetables for calcium, often prepared as a green smoothie in a blender. I'd make sure that you can explain how to complete protein requirements with legumes and brown rice. Explain the value of raw, whole fruits and vegetables. The typical Western diet as promoted on TV is clearly unhealthy.
It's always possible that your case worker might become uptight about veganism. If so, you might want to make sure that your physician can fully back up your lifestyle. My physician is delighted that I eat a healthy, well-balanced vegan and raw foods diet. And he loves that I get enough aerobic exercise.
With your physician's support and endorsement, that case worker should just slip away with a little embarrassment. He or she is not an expert on diet, but he or she should respect expert professional opinions.
Question: What jobs are available at adoption agencies? I was just thinking about getting a job working at an adoption agency but I don't even know what types of jobs are offered at one. Anyone else know?
Answer: I have a masters in social work and I'm an adoption specialist. I do home studies and child assessments.
Most states require social workers to be licensed. In order to be licensed most states require that you have a masters in social work (not sociology or psychology .... social work....thus the title social worker).
Most agencies will want at least a bachelors degree. My agency does clerical support and other people without degrees. We also have attorneys and such.

Question: What are some adoption agencies in haiti? I was searching online for the different adoption agencies in haiti and I can't seem to find a directory or anything similar. I know it is possible to adopt through agencies that are located outside of haiti (like in the US and Canada), but I was more curious about adoption agencies in the country of haiti. Do you know where I could find a list of haiti-based adoption agencies??
Answer: You couldn't find a list because Haiti doesn't have any adoption agencies. Adoptions are handled by the government and some (not all) orphanages.
At the moment, adoption from Haiti is not possible unless you have already completed the approval process. First priority is disaster relief and reuniting families who have been separated. New adoptions will not be possible until the country has stabilized, the missing have been located or confirmed dead, and they have identified the actual orphans versus the children who are lost from living relatives.
Why not look into adoption locally? There are over 120,000 children in US foster care who actually do need permanent homes as soon as possible.
Question: Are there any infant adoption agencies you would recommend? Due to complications beyond our control, my wife and I have decided to adopt. We would prefer to adopt an infant under 1 year old. We have begun to do our research and have come across some scary stories and scams that have to do with adoption agencies. We're looking form some recommendations for adoption agencies you may have used. We would prefer in the New England area, but open to national agencies. We would also prefer non-profit agencies.
Thanks in advanced
Answer: try contacting child protective authorities who may be able to help you.
Question: Do i need to go to college to work for an adoption agency? What are some big adoption agencies? I want to work with kids and I would like to work at an adoption agency and become one of the higher people there...what do i need to do?
Answer: Yes, you need to go to college. You should major in social work, and you will probably need to go to Graduate school as well if you really want to become one of the 'higher' people.
