Surrogate Mother
A woman who carries and gives birth to the child of another woman, who is usually infertile, by way of a pre-arranged legal contract. Surrogacy arrangements have a variety of accompanying legal issues and are not legally permitted or recognized in all states.
Question: Surrogate mother? Is it very hard to be approved to become a surrogate mother? And if you are approved how long is the process from there? I know I have to be matched with parents & do testing but I dont know how long it typically takes? From the day I am approved, how long does it take to actually become pregnant? Im not looking for exact answers of course, just an estimate. I would love to hear your personal stories and suggestions!!
Answer: It is quite difficult to be approved. You have to have a certain BMI, you have to be atleast 21 for most agencies, and you have to have atleast one child of your own, and go through psychological examination to ensure that you are capable of having a baby for someone else and giving it away. Once you are accepted and matched you have to go through hormone injections and then they would implant you with embryos. Overall I would say the process probably takes 4-6 months before you are implanted. Good luck though, it's a great thing you are trying to do. One way to speed up the process is to not go through an agency and just advertise or try to find someone who needs a surrogate. Only problem then is that you have to work out any pay arrangements and how they will cover medical bills etc.
Question: surrogate mother? I am diabetic and unable to carie my own child i am looking for a honest surrogate mother serious inquiery only please send me a message and your information
Answer: If no one helps you out on this try contacted fertility clinics close to home as they may be able to provide you some assistance.
Question: Surrogate Mother? I want to be a surrogate mother. I have 6 children of my own and loved being pregnant. I know the emotional aspects of giving up a child you've carried are a big issue and that's one I'm prepared to deal with. What other things do I need to consider? Do I need a lawyer? Where do I get started at? Is this something you advertise for? Anyone else ever do this? Details are appreciated. Want privacy email me at [email protected]
Answer: Here's a website for surrogate mothers, egg donors, and parents considering surrogacy:
http://www.surrogacy.com/
Question: How many women will be a surrogate mother free of charge for a man, using an egg donor? How many women will be a surrogate mother free of charge for a man, using an egg donor? He only want to have children that has no legal mother, but only a legal father, because he only want children that can legally live with there father until age 18 and never have to pay child support to the mother because it sucks in the USA for man. The laws says that it is illegal to compensate, a Surrogated mother in this US State, other than paying medical insurance that will cover all medical bills, and living expenses.
Answer: Not me >w<
Question: Whats the average cost of a surrogate mother if you already have the surrogate mother? I have had six miscarriages and just cant put myself through anymore lost. My husband and I have sat down and talked with my sister-in-law and she has agreed to be a surrogate mother for us. Using my egg and his sperm and placing it inside of her and she carries our baby. Do anyone know how much a fertility clinic will charge us? Whats the average cost?
Answer: Hi . i know a little bit some information about surrogate and all that stuff.
this site said that it all approximately $40,000 dollars (USD.). But if the surrogate was your sister in law, maybe you can discuss the fix price.
Surrogate is the expensive thing, so be sure to choose correctly.
hope it help!
Question: What happens if a surrogate mother decides to keep the baby? What happens if the surrogate mother decides she wants to keep the baby, or decides she cant go through with the process? CAn she legally keep the baby? How would that work?
Answer: This answer does depend on the contract, but more importantly it depends on where the surrogate lives and how the contracts are viewed, legally speaking, in that state. In some states she has no rights whatsoever. In others, she may have a chance but will almost always lose custody to the intended parents in the end and may only cause her self more financial trouble and public shame than it is worth.
This actually happens pretty rarely. Sadly, though, these horror stories are the only ones most people hear about even though the vast majority of surrogacy experiences work out wonderfully.
Question: How do I become a surrogate mother in Missouri or donate my eggs? I live in Columbia, Missouri and I am 20, almost 21, years old. I am interested in become an egg donor or a surrogate mother. Either would be great. I am just in need of information on where I can do this in my area.
Answer: I searched this for you on Yahoo and found an actual clinic in Columbia. I know it is a long process and can be stressful but it is a wonderful thing to do. Good luck!

Question: What was it like to be a surrogate mother? Women who have been a surrogate, what has it been like for you? Have you been a surrogate mother for a friend or family member and if so, does the child know and have you become a godparent or are you simply a relative?
I'm wondering, because I half jokingly asked my friend if she'd be my surrogate mother, if I ever decided to have children. I'm a trans male and can't naturally get pregnant and would like a backup plan.
Answer: I was a intended parent via surrogacy. A close family friend was our surrogate. We tried for 6 cycles without success and decided to take a break. She went on to do a surrogacy for another family and had a very successful surrogacy. She and I discussed it in great detail for many years and after birth she said it was the best feeling she ever had knowing she created a family for someone. I have also heard from others that it can be a hard experience.I really believe it depends on how prepared you are and how much support you have. You must be in the right mindset and do it for the right reasons. It truly takes a very special person to be able to do surrogacy. Our friend was going to be Auntie for our child and my husband and I are her 2 youngest childrens' god parents. You must have a strong relationship with a ton of trust and great communication in order for it to work. I wish you all the best!! Good Luck!
Question: How much does a surrogate mother get paid? How much does a surrogate mother get paid?? Does the soon to be parents pay the surrogate?
Answer: In the US, most states have now banned payments to surrogates and those that haven't now have limits ($20,000 seems to be common). My sister's relative was a surrogate before her state banned it and she was paid $40,000 for the first and $50,000 for the 2nd. That was on top of the parents-to-be paying out-of-pocket costs. What I object to is that Tricare paid for her medical care. Why should taxpayers be paying medical costs for a child INTENDED for parents not in the Military?
Question: Surrogate mother for man and his parents who want a grand child? Would you be willing to become a Surrogate mother for a single man who lives with his parents? He and his parents want a child/grandchild, and would be raising the child with his son. Would you consider using your own eggs or use an egg donor. Would you still do it if it is illegal under state law for him to financially compensate you except expenses? Would you allow Pre-implantation methods to generate a girl, if it is a boy unlikely he will accept it? Father and his parent will have full custody and will be allowed to leave state/country.
Answer: I was with ya! All the way until you got to the part where he wouldnt accept a boy.
If a person wants a child, it its typical that any child would make them happy. There are couples all across the country that are unable to have children and I truly feel badly for them. So much so that at one point in my life I had considered being a surrogate. But that planned changed because of health reasons.
If that love could only be ascertained by a girl then Im thinking something is wrong with that man and his parents and therefore would be undeserving.
Question: Why do potential surrogate mothers need to have at least one pregnancy before becoming a surrogate mother?? I am very interested in becoming a surrogate mother, but every site I have looked at says I need to have had at least one healthy pregnancy already.
I am healthy, no kids, great support system, and I want to help out couples in need.
Does anyone know of anyway I could become a surrogate mother even though I haven't had kids?
Any help or info would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
Answer: I think they want you to have had at least one child so they can see if you have any problems during that pregnancy. Not if you didn't you couldnt have later. But my doctor told me the more kids you have and carry to turme the more the odds of carrying the next one to term. If you really want to do it you may just have to find a couple who wants to have a baby and cant and who would want you to do it. Like some people ask their friends or family member to if they can't. If you could find a couple like that.
Question: How much does a surrogate mother charge? Hi, I've decided to become a surrogate mother. Before I can "advertise" I need to set an amount to charge. I'm having a hard time finding a dollar amount listed on any websites. I think that $20,000 is fair. Does anyone have any information on how much a surrogate mother charged for a TS/AI type surrogacy? I know that incurred costs vary & are covered by the Intended Parents, but I mean the compensation solely for the pregnancy & birth. Thank you for any information!
Okay to posters #3 & 4, I live in MD where it is legal to be paid for the surrogacy throughout the pregnancy in equal payments. It is illegal to "sell" the baby after the birth. The reason I am not going through an agency is becuase that nearly doubles the cost for the Intended Parents and about 70% of surrogacy contracts in Maryland are independent for this reason. Please do not answer questions you don't know anything about.
Answer: Between 15 and 20 thousand is a fair price. Also be sure to include a different fee if you carry multiples usually about 2-4 thousand more and depending on how many you carry.
Question: What are your opinions on being a surrogate mother? I am currently in a battle within myself, because I would love to become a surrogate mother. To give the gift of life and know that the child will be taken care of. I just wanted some opinions. Thanks!
Answer: I'd do it in a second.
Question: What happens if the baby of a surrogate mother dies? I'm doing a project for school about surrogate mothers, i have searched this question everywhere and can't seem to find an answer. So what would happen if a surrogate mother was carrying a baby, and the baby unexpectedly didn't make it?
Answer: Nothing, its in the contract that its a possibility of that happening.
NOw if she was abusing her body/herself as the result of the baby dying sure there will be legal action taken against her and possibly the company who hired her.
Question: Do you think a surrogate mother has the right to keep the babies? I just saw a thing on Dr.Phil about a surrogate mother who decided to keep the babies she had for someone else. The real mother and father wanted to keep the babies, and they even hired an attorney but apparently they lost their babies. I don't know much about how the surrogate thing goes, but isn't the REAL mothers egg and the fathers sperm put together and then put in the surrogate woman? If that's right then I think the woman has no right to take away the parents baby. Opinions?
Answer: First off, NO the surrogate mother should not have any right to keep the baby.
This is rare that they do and I guess my first thought is where is the agency and the counselling this SM was suppose to get? Most surrogate experiences from people I talked to are positive and the SM does not feel maternal attachments or like they are giving up "their baby". Especially if they are a gestational surrogate as this woman is (not her egg). My first thought when I see a case like this is it is some sort of scam for additional dollars.
Many states and countries (even if it is a traditional surrogate, meaning the SM eggs) go by intent. WHO are the parents that intended to have the pregnancy. Who are the ones with the initial intent to raise the child. Basically meaning the intended parents have the legal rights.
Question: How can someone find a surrogate mother? I'm unable to carry a child but would like to find a surrogate mother who can be implanted with a fertilized egg(mine) and sperm. Where can I find such a woman?
Answer: this depends on your methods and how much your willing to invest. I do not suggest craigslist; simply because it's harder to find serious individuals who have already thought though the idea of surrogacy and made an informed decision to become a surrogate; which can cause trouble later. It's best to use a forum dedicated to surrogacy or similar practices.
before I go any further though you should check if your state recognizes gestational surrogacy. Many states it's unclear, some refuse to recognize contracts (ie you can still do it; but if the surrogate choses to keep the child the state won't force them to surrender it to you) and some explicitly forbid it. Here is a convent link to figuring out your state policy http://www.surrogacy.com/legals/map.html
If your willing to pay a little extra there are blurrinesses who's sole responsibility is finding surrogates, ensuring they are physically healthy and capable of being surrogates, and arranging the legal aspects of surrogacy. These agencies will obviously cost more, but they remove some of the headache and potential issues that can come up with surrogacy. A quick Google search suggests these sites (I haven't used them so I can't endorse any of them)
http://www.creatingfamilies.com/home/def…
http://www.conceptualoptions.com/?gclid=…
http://www.surrogatemothers.com/article_…
http://intendedparents.com/index.asp
If cost is a concern you can arrange surrogacy on your own. You will have to do some through research on your own state law (and the state of the surrogate if different then yours) to ensure you create a contract that is legally binding. Alternatively you might use a lawyer to arrange the contract but find the surrogate on your own; which is still cheaper then using an agency. There are forums/sites dedicated to this also; which I also have not used and can't actively endorse.
http://www.surromomsonline.com/ (never used this but it keeps popping up in google; which is a good sign. It looks like it's probably your best option)
http://www.surrogatemother.com/forum
http://www.information-on-surrogacy.com/… (scroll down to see good links)
and finally there is one site I know about and so can actually suggest. It's not directly dedicated to surrogacy; but I know that some surrogate mothers are there; and I suspect if you post a polite request you will get links to other surrogacy forums from here. It's probably not your best resource; but it's the only one I can personally testify to...well other then the one I never intended to know about and decided not to link; I'm sure you could find surrogates there that are happy to not keep the kids, but I don't know if you would want to use the site :-P.

Good luck. and remember there is always adoption and fostering if surrogacy doesn't work out. I'm personally a very strong supporter of fostering, foster children are the ones most in need of a loving family; it feels wrong that so many ignore their plight. I would be fostering myself if they would accept a single male as a foster parent. ;)
Question: How do I become a surrogate mother in Canada? I would like to become a surrogate mother but I have never had a child.
I wish to help others, but do not want to have a child of my own.
Answer: Hi there
At this point, because you have not had children of your own, you are not eligible to become a surrogate mother. The clinics and parents are unable to determine if you, yourself are infertile, and with the costs of surrogacy, intended parents who take a chance on you and lose might never be able to become actual parents.
Add to that the fact that you could experience the loss of your own reproductive ability while having a child for someone else, and, well, you simply are not eligible at this time.
Have your kids, and look into surrogacy when you are done. It's not going anywhere, in fact, as it becomes more and more known, the number of intended parents is growing. There will most definitely be someone to help later.
Question: How does one become a surrogate mother? I have three children of my own and am interested in becoming a surrogate mother for a couple who is unable to conceive. I loved being pregnant but do not want any more children of my own. What is the first step I need to take?
Answer: you need to talk to your doctor about that.
Question: What exactly is a gestational surrogate mother? I had a woman answer my ? on here a minute ago saying that she was a gestational surrogate mother, what exactly is that? I would have msged her myself but I couldn't due to YA acting up.
Is it like adoption? I'm rather curious now.
Answer: a gestational surrogate mother is a person who carries a baby for another couple whom are not able to have a baby on their own. a gestational surrogate mother does not use her egg, but only uses her uterus to carry the baby. the baby is not biology related to the gestational surrogate. it is nothing like adoption.
Question: How do you become A surrogate mother at 18? Im 18 Years old and i would love to become a surrogate mother. I have A 14 Month old daughter. Im very healthy. I weigh 140lbs.
