Pro Se Or Pro Per

A Latin term that mean representing yourself in court. If you are pro se (or pro per), you are your own lawyer.

Question: Is pro per (or pro se) litigation good experience to make law school easier? In other words, does a law student with pro per experience have an advantage over law students with no experience at all? If an adult is planning to change careers to law in the future, does it make sense for that person to welcome litigation for the benefits of the experience? Such as being stubborn when a neighbor threatens to sue over something minor?

Answer: Not really, no. You really have the wrong idea about Law, but so do a relatively small number of attorneys. It's not about litigation for litigation's sake. It's about resolving disputes reasonably, and that doesn't always take litigation. Most of the time, litigation means someone is not being reasonable. You'd be better off using such arguments with the neighbors as a chance to settle matters reasonably. It'd make you a much better lawyer in the long run.
