It adds that metropolitan cities are the location of many of these. I think Turkey's dream of joining the EU is an unrealizable one. Don't you agree?

Answer: No, I don't agree, Sweetie. Istanbul has a population of 15-17 million people; a lot bigger than most of the EU countries. In fact, the ratio of 1 to 15-17 million is a success- I am not approving it but those are sad facts of life. At least we don't have cases like fathers locking up their own daughters to basements for 20 years and making 8 kids from countless rapes. or girls get knocked up while they are 12.. Answer: To maintain family honour,a girl,usually Muslim,is slaughtered by the father and/or brothers,if she refuses an arranged marriage.It is usually a young girl being married off to some rich old geriatric patient and money changes hands.I don't know how much the honour matters or if it is the income that is lost.

Answer: Speak out against it. Make it public. It is the only thing that works. I mean, 10 years back people in Jordan denied that there was such a thing as honor killing. Then some Jordanian journalists started reporting. They did not judge, they did not point fingers, they just put the facts into the papers. Within a few years the attitude began changing - it was admitted that there was a problem, discussion started and now Jordanian women's rights activists openly demand reforms. They want the honor killings to be treated as murder and judged accordingly and certain progress in that direction is being made. Give them another 10-20 years and honor killings will be the exception, not the norm. The same is true for other countries. We in the west cannot do much because we cannot tell a country what to do and what not. The change needs to come from within the country itself. What we can do is to write letters of protest (Amnesty International) and help any woman around us who due to her heritage is in a similar position.

Answer: There is no such thing as Honour killing in Islam. It is a cultural thing and any Muslim who does such thing will be punished because he violated the laws of Islam. Killing is a Sin.
