Millennials
Millennials are individuals who were born between 1980 and 2000. Due to the high divorce rate, a large number of millennials grew up in single parent or blended family homes.
Question: What are your thoughts on people in their mid to late 20's right now? The Gen Y/Millennials.? The mid to late 20 somethings that mark the transitional cusp between the Generation Xers who are in their 30's now and the full on Millennials who are teenagers right now. How do you perceive those in their 20's right now and for the Gen Xers, how are they different from you guys?
Answer: They need to stay off my lawn. Miserable ragamuffins.
Question: how should i start an essay about the millennials? i just need to know how to start it and i can do the rest.
Answer: Your introduction would depend on what you wished to say about the millennials. You might start it out as follows: "The millenials is a generation that has no memory of what it was like to not own a PC" and take it from there.
Question: how do boomers, buster, and millennials differ from each other in skills? attitudes and work values, and job prospects? How might these differences affect relationships between the three groups in the work setting?
Answer: Some insecure Boomers would feel that the younger ones are hired to take over their jobs. Other boomers take them by the hand and teach them everything they know. Still other boomers stay on the job so long that the job prospects are not there for the buster or millenniums.
Some boomers are set in their ways while busters/millenniums are open for change. Busters and millenniums are better educated, technology-wise, more open and flexible and loved to do things fast, fast, fast.
Question: Do you think the Millennials are the most spoiled generation ever? It seems like today, everyone gets a trophy, everyones a winner, everyone wins, nobody loses. There are no "losers" anymore. They get so much more special treatment than before. Parents buy kids more things now than before. Why is this generation so much more spoiled?
why dont kids get slapped like they used to?
Answer: Because of absurd Pop Psychology claims that spanking a child and branding them as normal will lead their brain to develop an inferiority complex and self-hatred.
It is also because of governments worldwide which bans parents spanking their children.
I have to say though, that the generation before you also thought that your generation was spoiled! Nevertheless, the advent of Internet and Technology led to this social climax, and in a few more years, when this current generation grows up, they will begin to see the absurdity that Dr. Spock made.
:)
Question: To all the other millennials (gen Y) -- what are your thoughts on the economy and how it affects you? Just curious... :)
Answer: At first I really didn't feel it. I had a job, going to school and our local economy was pulling through. But these past 5 months have really taken a toll on Kansas City. Shops are closing everyday and 3 of my roomates have lost their jobs.
It sucks and makes me mad no one took the warning signs seriously.
XoXo
Question: How is the quality of a millennial surfboard? I am thinking buying a millennial 7'6" epoxy funboard. Does anyone know if millennials are a good brand to buy?
Answer: depends what you are doing? you can find cheaper ones if you look around. If you live in TX this is not going to work.
Question: what is the simpler way to define millennial? this is under teaching reading & writing subject. so i'd like to know the definition that evolves with education (if possible). thanks!
Answer: Millennial is the adjective to millennium.
Question: Can someone explain Christ's millennial reign on Earth after the 7 year tribulation? I understand the rapture and the seven year tribulation, but I'm a bit fuzzy on Christ's reign on Earth. Is it only the christians that come after the rapture that experience his reign on Earth? I believe someone told me the Christians reign with him during this time period. Just who are we reigning over?
Answer: There will be people who come to believe in Jesus Christ during the tribulation period. There will be many of those people who escape the horrors of the tribulation. These same people will see Christ returning on a white horse followed by the armies in heaven, the armies being all those who trusted in Christ's atonement for their sins and were taken away in the Rapture. We will rule and reign with Christ for 1,000 years over the people who escaped the tribulation. During the 1,000 year reign, those same people who lived through the 7-year tribulation period, will marry and have children, and they will have children and so forth. These are the people, who after Satan is released for a season after the 1,000 year reign, will attempt to deceive. Those who he is able to deceive will join him in the final Battle of Armageddon. God bless you!!!
Question: What are the wants and desires of the millennial generation? In regards to the workforce?
Answer: equal pay and treatment, no more affirmative action.
jobs based on merit.
Question: Are Millennials Redefining the "American Dream?"? For me, and many others in my generation, the American Dream is no longer "40 years at Big X Corporation" , a house, and car...It's family, friends, a sense of community, and helping others in some way. I could care less about money per se...So how do you thing Millennials will change the American Dream?
http://boggsblog.org/2008/03/25/the-next-american-revolution/
Answer: Totally. The Boomers and the Xers are all about STUFF. Its their obsession. It just doesn't jive with us.
Question: What effect did 9/11 and the war in Iraq have on the Millennial Generation? In your opinion, how have these events shaped the mindset of Millennial voters (18-29) in particular?
Answer: I don't think it had much effect at all, simply because they were mostly children when it all started. Terrorism and the Iraq war have just been background noise to them.
When I was a kid in the Sixties, I kept hearing "Vietnam" and "Viet Cong" coming from the TV when my parents watched the news and I didn't know what it was, but I also didn't really care. I remember soldiers from town getting killed but I couldn't relate to it at all. It wasn't until I was well into adulthood that I started wondering what Vietnam was all about and did some reading on it.
I think that like all the other generations before them, people of that age group see the political issues they've grown up with as their parents' problems and they've got their own ideas about how the world should be run.
Question: Where in Bible is a millennial kingdom mentioned? I've always been a 'die & go straight to heaven or hell' kind of girl.
Answer: The Millennial Kingdom
Millennium – it’s simply a word derived from Latin that means “one thousand years.” Yet this simple word with the simple meaning becomes something much more in the context of the Millennial Kingdom, or the Millennial Reign of Christ. And from that point, different interpretations of the thousand-year reign of Christ have resulted in more “-isms” than most of us care to think about: premillennialism, postmillennialism, amillennialism, and preterism. Let’s examine each of these beliefs and let the scriptures support what they may.
Biblically, the millennium refers to a thousand-year reign of Christ on earth. While some of the Old Testament prophets mention this era, it is mentioned with most clarity in the twentieth chapter of Revelation. Here, John says:
Revelation 20 (Amplified Bible)
1THEN I saw an angel descending from heaven; he was holding the key of the Abyss (the bottomless pit) and a great chain was in his hand.
2And he gripped and overpowered the dragon, that old serpent [of primeval times], who is the devil and Satan, and [securely] bound him for a thousand years.
3Then he hurled him into the Abyss (the bottomless pit) and closed it and sealed it above him, so that he should no longer lead astray and deceive and seduce the nations until the thousand years were at an end. After that he must be liberated for a short time.
4Then I saw thrones, and sitting on them were those to whom authority to act as judges and to pass sentence was entrusted. Also I saw the souls of those who had been slain with axes [beheaded] for their witnessing to Jesus and [for preaching and testifying] for the Word of God, and who had refused to pay homage to the beast or his statue and had not accepted his mark or permitted it to be stamped on their foreheads or on their hands. And they lived again and ruled with Christ (the Messiah) a thousand years.(A)
5The remainder of the dead were not restored to life again until the thousand years were completed. This is the first resurrection.
6Blessed (happy, [a]to be envied) and holy (spiritually whole, of unimpaired innocence and proved virtue) is the person who takes part (shares) in the first resurrection! Over them the second death exerts no power or authority, but they shall be ministers of God and of Christ (the Messiah), and they shall rule along with Him a thousand years.
PREMILLENNIALISM:
The earliest interpretation of the millennial reign of Christ is that of premillennialism. This belief holds that after a period of tribulation, Christ will return to physically establish His Kingdom on Earth for a period of one thousand years. During this time, Satan will be bound and unable to deceive people. After the millennium, Satan will be set free for a time, but his rebellion will be quickly vanquished. The premillennialist believes that this Kingdom is yet to come.
There are two subsets to premillennialism. Historic Premillenialism places the rapture of the church and the start of the millennium together as part of the same event. This is also known as a post-tribulation rapture, and contends that believers must endure the seven-year tribulation prior to the glorious reappearance of Jesus Christ. Dispensational Premillennialism is the belief in a pre-tribulation rapture of the church, followed by seven years of tribulation, and finally, the glorious reappearance of Christ and the start of His millennial reign.
The premillennial view adheres to a literal interpretation of the Bible. As previously mentioned, this is the oldest known interpretation of the millennial Kingdom. For the first two centuries, premillennialism was the accepted view of the church. Papias was a companion of Polycarp, who was discipled by John, the author of revelation. Papias believed in the literal earthly premillennial doctrine. Other second and third century scholars who held to this belief included Irenaus, Appolinarius, Victorinus, Tertullian, and Lactantius.
AMILLENNIALISM:
The amillennialist does not accept the literal interpretation of Revelation 20. The thousand years is figurative, and shouldn’t be taken literally. The millennium is a spiritual representation of the church age, in which we are now living. This view holds that Satan was bound at the first coming of Christ. The good in the world comprises the kingdom of Christ, and the evil in the world is part of Satan’s kingdom. The kingdom of Christ is the church itself. This view was first proposed by St. Augustine in the fourth century, and has been the favored position of the Roman Catholic church ever since. It is also a view that is common among reform protestant denominations. The amillennialist holds that Christ will reign through his church until His second coming, which will mark – not the millennial reign – but the beginning of eternity for believers.
POSTMILLENNIALISM:
In this view, Christ’s reign begins somewhere between the first and second coming, but it arrives in degrees. Like amillennialism, postmillennialism denies a literal interpretation of Revelation 20. They believe the thousand-year reign of Christ is figurative, and represents a time when He reigns through the hearts of believers. The kingdom is brought in gradually through evangelism.
Developed in the 16th century, this view holds that conditions will gradually improve over time, evolving into a world that has become “Christianized”, and ready for the second coming of Christ. Postmillennialism has become all but extinct as the result of two world wars, the Great Depression, and the unabated moral decay in the world. Conditions are definitely not improving.
PRETERISM:
Preterism often goes hand in hand with postmillennialism, and holds that the bulk of the prophecies in Revelation were fulfilled with the fall of Jerusalem in 70 A.D. The preterist does believe in a final judgment following a metaphorical millennial kingdom, but believes that all other prophecy has been fulfilled. This is the “been there, done that” view of Revelation.
Preterism has some sever flaws. First, most biblical scholars believe that John wrote Revelation around 95 A.D. How can he then prophecy about something that took place in 70 A.D.? When was the mark of the beast implemented (Revelation 13:16-17)? When did the Euphrates River dry up (Revelation 16:12)? Why is there no record of 100-pound hailstones falling from the sky (Revelation 16:21)? Why was Israel dispersed for nearly two thousand years, and reborn as an independent nation in 1948? These questions cannot be answered with any intellectual honesty while adhering to the preterist view.
On the basis of scripture, I contend that the premillennialist view is the only one mentioned that can pass the intellectual muster. The following list explains this contention:
Only the premillennialist view takes a literal interpretation of Revelation 20. While the Bible does speak allegorically at times, it is pretty clear when it is doing so. If a passage can be taken literally, it should be. One thousand years is mentioned specifically in vs 1-7. Other mentions of time in Revelation are specific (ten days - Rev.2:10; forty-two months – Rev. 11:2, 13:5), or otherwise vaguely noted (a little while – Rev. 6:11; a short time – Rev. 12:12).
Postmillennialism and amillennialism consider us to currently be in an allegorical millennial kingdom of Jesus Christ. Isaiah drew a mental picture for us when he described what life would be like during the millennial kingdom. In Isaiah 11:6-9 he says tells us, “The wolf will live with the lamb, the leopard will lie down with the goat, the calf and the lion and the yearling together; and a little child will lead them. The cow will feed with the bear, their young will lie down together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox. The infant will play near the hole of the cobra, and the young child put his hand into the viper's nest. They will neither harm nor destroy on all my holy mountain, for the earth will be full of the knowledge of the LORD as the waters cover the sea.” This is a vision of an Eden-like utopia. How can anyone look at the world in which we live and describe it in these words? How can anyone think that Satan is in chains, and not running amok in this evil world?
The world in which we live is not the world as God created it. God created a world much like Isaiah described above. But man chose sinful rebellion and was cast out of that utopia. The millennial kingdom will provide our Lord and Savior, the Messiah Jesus Christ, with an opportunity to reign over a world that will be as it was meant to be. Satan will be bound and unable to exercise his influence over God’s creation. The blood of the martyrs will have been avenged, and the saints will be joined with our savior, in a preview of Heaven to come. In Revelation 22:20, Jesus said, “I am coming soon.” Let me close with the words John used in response to that promise, “Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.”
Question: according to the bible, who will live during the millennial kingdom? more speicifcally, who takes part in the first resurrection of the dead mentioned in revelation of john and who takes part in the second resurrection of the dead also mentioned in revelation of john? when do the christians that die during the millennial kingdom get resurrected?
Answer: the people that will be around in the Millennial kingdom will be those who followed God, and those who survived "the great tribulation" it is doubtful that the Christians will die as they will have their new eternal bodies.
Question: Okay, so when is the best time for a woman to have a cosmetic procedure? I have always thought women in their early 30s didn't need any yet. I mean we are aging since the day we are born. How do you suddenly lose your looks in your early 30s?? I always thought it was 35-40 something and beyond. It has been recommended by doctors not to start cosmetic surgery and botox until at least 35. My goodness people. This is 2010, not 1950. We millennials are not the Gen X-ers or the ones before that.
Answer: I would say never really. Any of the celebs I see with botox always have a shiny forehead and really tight skin, like too tight, just fake and unnatural looking. Even if they get it done well, it still doesn't look quite right, they've lost the fullness in the face that they had when they were young and I don't think surgery can properly restore it.
If someone was to get something done, I would say late 40s/early 50s maybe. Diet and exercise would hold them up until then
Question: Christians - What is the purpose for Satan being released at the end of the 1000 year millennial reign? Revelation 20:7 Now when the thousand years have expired, Satan will be released from his prison
Jesus returns and establishes God's Kingdom and peace on this Earth and restores it to paradise and then, after Satan is bound for 1000 years, God allows Satan to be released.
Do any Christians know what God's ultimate purpose is for allowing this to happen?
Answer: Though this question has come to mind in the past, I've never taken any time to consider an answer... until now.
Considering what ELSE happens at the end of the 1000 year reign of Christ and the saints on the earth, I'd have to say that Satan's release is in accord with that (although there may be more to it).
Revelation 20:1-3 (highlights) -- Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, ... He laid hold of ... Satan, and bound him for a thousand years; ..., so that he should deceive the nations no more till the thousand years were finished. But after these things he must be released for a little while.
Verses 7 & 8 -- Now when the thousand years have expired, Satan will be released from his prison and will go out to deceive the nations ...to gather them together to battle
Verse 10-12 -- The devil, who deceived them, was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone... Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away. ... And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, ... And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books.
After the 1000 years, it is a time of testing and judgment -- final judgment. And Satan is judged along with everyone else. And when he is found incorrigible, he is cast into the Lake of Fire and destroyed along with the rest of the incorrigible wicked.
Just a thought.

Question: Why do some Christians believe that we are in the Millennial Kingdom right now? Is this based on Augustine's writings?
Answer: Generally people who hold that belief are defined as "preterists". According to that method of theology most all of the predictions found in the Bible were fulfilled in 70 AD when "Jesus came and judged Israel via the Roman army".
http://www.apocalipsis.org/preterism.htm
R C Sproul defines preterism as:
Preterism: An eschatological viewpoint that places many or all eschatological events in the past, especially during the destruction of Jerusalem in AD 70. (R C Sproul, The Last Days according to Jesus, p 228)
Question: What is the history of millenial thought? Summarize the history of millennial thought. What type of social conditions tend to promote millennialism, and what social conditions tend to make it less popular? Develop a profile of the typical millennial leader.
Answer: lol. nice going on posting all the questions to the SOC 357 final on Yahoo!Answers.
Question: Why did God teach the existence of hell only after millennials of not mentinoing it in the Old Testaments? There was no mention of a fiery hell before the New Testaments.
Answer: "For a fire is kindled in My anger,
And burns to the lowest part of Sheol,
And consumes the earth with its yield,
And sets on fire the foundations of the mountains. "
Deuteronomy 32:22
Now I will rise,” says the LORD;
“ Now I will be exalted,
Now I will lift Myself up.
You shall conceive chaff,
You shall bring forth stubble;
Your breath, as fire, shall devour you.
And the people shall be like the burnings of lime;
Like thorns cut up they shall be burned in the fire.
Hear, you who are afar off, what I have done;
And you who are near, acknowledge My might.”
The sinners in Zion are afraid;
Fearfulness has seized the hypocrites:
“ Who among us shall dwell with the devouring fire?
Who among us shall dwell with everlasting burnings?”
Isaiah 33;11-14
Question: Should Christians and atheists stop their millennial encounter since everything ends at the same place? Should Christians and atheists stop their millennial encounter, both in real life and on the Net, since everything ends at the same place, all life eventually returns to dust?
Answer: I am sensing a major setback to your growth little one.If I could reach inside of myself and pull out a part of my passion for life and happiness that rages within me that nothing on Earth can ever take from me or extinguish, I would gladly do so just to envision the smile it would bring you.
It distresses me deeply to know you suffer as you do. My prayers are with you and I also wish you could know what I have experienced if for nthing else than for you to get a little healing.
Question: What are your views on the Millennials and homeschooling? I saw a story on 60 minutes last night about the Millennials entering the workforce, these are the children born between 1980-95. (If you have not seen the story, go to cbsnews.com, click on 60 mintues and watch the video)
Nutshell: millennials enter the workforce are spoiled brats, needing tons of accolades to do the simplest of things. They blame their baby boomer parents. I additionally blame the boomer bosses.
BUT, what, if any, effect do you think education has on this situation. Do you think homeschooling contributes to the situation or minimizes it? Do you feel homeschool students are used to working harder? Do you think public school students are used to being rewarded for just showing up as the article pointed out?
Or do you think the reverse is true?
And last but not least, do you really think it is Mr. Rogers fault???
Interesting that you automatically assumed these were my personal viewpoints.
Not one of the young workers interviewed mentioned homeschooling, we were left to assume most were public educated so where's the connection between your view of publich educaiton and their philosophies. And, as a side note, the boomer bosses were the ones blaming Mr. Rogers, not me. I personally think Mr. Rogers rocks.
Also, I know homeschool kids who embrace the millennial attitude mentioned (getting rewarded for just showing up) as well as knowing public school students that value actually earning what you get.
May I assume you never watched the footage?
I have to mention this. I'm wondering how having a nap room and handing out cheap store bought certificates with stickers on them will resonate in history....
Thanks to everyone for answering. I always knew that homeschool parents were training the next generation of leaders, but I did not know what those leaders would be facing.
I sincerely hope stories like this will inspire homeschool parents to continue the good work they have started and to even perhaps inspire some long term goals.
I also hope with the numbers of home educated students rising every year, that scenes like this story represented will be nothing more than a blip on the radar screen.
Answer: I started to answer this question this morning but did not have time to watch video. I watched the video a few minutes ago.
I was born in 50's and entered workforce in early 70's. I was a spoiled brat. I learned much from losing my first job after being there 5 years. They blamed it on the economy, but it was my work performance that caused them to let me go and kept people who had been hired after I was hired. I learned. On my next job, I did my job. I did more than my job. I kept my job when others were 'let go' during economic lows.
It is going to be a rude wakeup for these kids as they realize that the world does not revolve around them.
Homeschooling? I hope that I can instill in my son a good work ethic. If a person is getting paid for working an hour , he should be actually working that hour. If he has nothing to do, he should find something to do.
Public school? They get on the bus at 7AM and return home at 3PM. They work, on a good day, about 4 hours on studying, reading, writing, etc. It is not an efficient use of time. They start their jobs after high school or college and think that if they actually work 4 of the 8 hours that they are paid, that they are doing what they should.
The economy will fail. The USA cannot continue living on 'credit'. The kids are clueless now and will be both frantic and clueless when the party ends. It is sad.
