Waiting Children
This term generally refers to non-infant, school age children, who have become legally available for adoption. They will generally be under the legal jurisdiction and care of public foster care agencies, and will have come into the foster care system for a variety of reasons, which could include neglect, abandonment, abuse and/or some other dysfunction within their family environment.
Question: Who is allowed to touch the Queen of England? The ladies-in-waiting, her children and grandchildren, doctors? Obviously her husband may touch her but what about:
ladies-in-waiting
her children
her grandchildren
doctors
???
I know little (nothing actually) of royal protocol, but I find it fascinating.
Thanks for answering my question:)
Answer: There is no rule against touching The Queen. Many peple think there is a prohibition, but it is more respect for the position than anything else. Because she is a small person who would probably get sick if too many people touched her, people are careful.
----------
Even healthy strong American male politicians have to be careful.
----------
The media makes a bigger deal out of the "no touch" rule than anyone.
Question: Why do most people want babies to adopt when there are older children waiting for homes in USA? Also does anyone know how much it would cost to adopt a toddler in the state of ohio(Northwest part) and if the biological parents can get them back and any websites that have information on adopting toddlers or places where my husband and I can go to in order to adopt?
Answer: You're right. There are so many older kids who need parents to love them! Good for you for considering them as potential kids for yourself! We're actually thinking school aged, but any orphaned child adopted is one more out of the foster care system!
Question: Why are there still children waiting to be adopted with so many anti-choice, anti-abortion types out there? Shouldn't you be adopting the ones we already have before you try to force women to have more?
Answer: The system should find a way to take care of the children already in it before adding more. What I bet I can get everybody to agree to is that the knowledge of birth control in America is pathetic. Head on over to the pregnancy and parenting section and see how many can I get pregnant if...questions there are,
People don;'t know how to protect themselves. First we need to figure out how to launch a comprehensive birth control program, then we need to figure out how to manage the sheer number of children in the system who have been brought there by unfit or unwilling parents. Then and only then can we even begin to talk about restricting abortion.
Question: Are we waiting too long to have children these days? Just ten years ago, studies show that women were giving birth much earlier than they are now. Now, there are women freezing their eggs so they may have a career and life plan before they give birth. Are these career-oriented women of the century waiting too long to have children, or is this what we should have focused on from the start?
Answer: I think so. I mean they do have a point they want to have a stable career and job before they have a baby but what most don't realize is that they STILL cal have all this and be a parent. I am 24 & I am doing it. It is not that hard. As long as you have support and family and friends to help you out you will be fine.
Question: Does anyone know the name of the touch screen activity available in many waiting rooms, children's museums? I have seen them in various business settings, and would like to find out more about them. Does anyone know what they are called/who makes them?
Answer: Theres one called Young Explorer made for preschoolers
Theres a good article on touch screens in general, if its for older kids you might be better off with something like an Ipad, I think HP makes a touchscreen too. If I find it, will post back with the link. Although with something like the Ipad, theres of course the subscription fees versus just software and apps.
Im waiting on a nintendo 3DS. Also this reminded me - if you have a Wii - Big Brain Academy is a great one. We got it when my youngest was 4 and was able to do it with very little wii remote experience.
Question: Why should children given preference on the organ waiting list? Guidelines for organ waiting lists give preference to patients under the age of 18. So if two people, a 12 year old and a 40 year old, are both in dire need of an organ, the organ would go to the child. This is definitely not something I see as wrong. However, I was wondering what the reasoning behind this position. I know there are some obvious ones, like children have more potential. But isn't it utilitarian to base who gets an organ based on potential?
Answer: Let the child see the world!
Question: How many children on the waiting list for pineride elementary in ellerslie? I am on the waiting list and wanted to know are there any hope for another pre-k class?
Answer: wouldn't it be easier to call the school and ask them?

Question: Adopting from Russia: immigration fees/WACAP Waiting Children? Hi, DH and I have been contemplating adopting for some time now. We are considering adopting two boys (age 3+) through the WACAP waiting child program. Two questions: 1) Has anyone done this? If so, how much did you spend--total?
2) In terms of adopting from Russia, regardless of agency/program used, how much did you pay--in total--for immigration fees?
Thanks so, so much!
Answer: We are adopting from the Philippines, so of course it is a little different than Russia. But the total cost is going to be at least $20,000. Most countries are higher. WACAP is a great agency. I would consider them if I were doing this again. The reason we didn't choose Russia is because they require you to spend alot of time there, I think a couple months, and two trips I think, which really adds up. We have small kids so we cant be gone that long.
Anyway, as far as immigration fees, we paid $830 to USCIS, but there are so many other fees involved in adopting. We are getting 2 older boys and it will cost about $25K.
Question: In playschool today when the children were waiting to go in? with their parents one of the mums told off someone elses child for doing something disgusting. (come on lets face it pre school kids are hardly clean are they and have disgusting habits ) the kids mum didnt notice but i thought its not right to tell off someones kid is it and the mum doing the telling off needs to look at her own child she has been bullying my son he is fine but i was a bit miffed really how would you feel in this situation ?
Answer: She's stupid, she has no right to talk to someone else's child in any kind of way, she's responsible for her child and her child alone, I'm sorry but when i have a child i wouldn't let someone else yell at them, i understand if they did something wrong but thats up to me, the parent, to take care of that not another parent.i wouldn't take it lightly, id put her in her place!
Question: To Kill a Mockingbird: Why was aunt alexandra waiting for the children when they came out of church service? From the book To Kill A Mockingbird:
Why was aunt alexandra waiting for the children when they came out of church service?
from the section of chapter 12-14
Answer: She had just arrived to stay with the Finch family. It turns out that Atticus has invited her to come and "stay with [them] for a while" because he had decided that the children need a feminine influence. This is stated pretty clearly on the last page of Chapter 12 and the first of Chapter 13. If you're asking why she was sitting on the porch instead of inside, I imagine the reason was that no one was at home when she arrived, and even if the door was unlocked, she may have considered it improper to go inside when none of the family was there.
One thing she was NOT doing was waiting to pounce on them for going to church with Calpurnia, because she didn't realize where they had been until some time later (beginning of Chapter 14). When she does realize it, she firmly rules that they are not going to go there again, or to Calpurnia's house, but she wasn't explicitly waiting for them to come back from Calpurnia's church that Sunday.
Question: Are children who are waiting to be adopted live in orphanages? I know that's what they did a while back, but I'm not sure of what the case is now. How does that work? I know the kid goes to a foster home, but what if there is no foster home available? What is it like to live there? What were old orphanages like? When did they stop using orphanages?
Please give as much detail as possible.
Thank-you!
Answer: Not here---the children available for adoption are still waiting in their foster home for someone. There are also children in residential homes who are available but these kids have special issues and continue to live there until they age out. They always manage to locate a foster home even if they have to move the child 2 or 3 hrs away.
Question: What are some of the upsides to waiting later in life to have children? I'm 28 and do want children, but feel like i'm about ten or eleven years away. Please only answer if you are an older parent, or child of older parent. I am an athlete, and plan on being in great shape throughout my life, so i'm looking for more than "your old and not going to want to chase them around."
Answer: Its only here in America that people have kids so soon. Everywhere else around the world they usually wait until the mid 30's. My parents are international, and decided to enjoy life, and travel as much as they could before having kids. My mom had me at 33, and my dad was 38.
Moving to America I could not believe my friends moms and dads were in their early 30's! And honestly, I felt kind of embarrassed bringing up my parents age because I would always get rude comments. But honeslty now I can say my parents are so much more involved in my life then so many other parents I know. I just started college and my parents are now between 55-60. They both still run 6 miles a day, and can beat me in any sport. The other advantage I've noticed having older parents is having a better life! My dad is very advanced in his career and making very good money. I have had a far better life with all the extra luxuries my parents are able to afford. The quality of life for me as a kid was excellent. My parents are very wise, and have given me better oppurtunities at life. There are many things that young parents cant offer or give their children. I am very grateful that I had the oppurtunity to have such a unique childhood.I wouldnt worry a bit! Being an older parent gives your children just as good a life, if not better than opposed to being young. Dont worry at all! Especially if your in great shape! You'll be an awesome parent one day!
Question: Is infertility more common because women are waiting longer to have children or because of environment?
What I meant, was of the two possiblities, which do you think makes infertility happen more often...sorry I wasn't very clear.
Answer: That is a great question!! It could be both, but I think that all the crap and hormones in the food we eat and in our environment is impacting fertility. Of course, if you think about it, ferility was not a big topic back say 40 years ago. My mom tried for 7 years to have me and all they did back then was put her on BC pills and she had a D&C. There weren't that many options back then so maybe we are just hearing about it more. I really don't know. My mom had issues, so did her brother and I have been TTC for 9 years now so maybe there is a genetic link to it also.
Question: why R adoption costs so HIGH? There R millions of homeless children waiting 4 a home. How can we change this? My husband and I have recently adopted my neice needless to say it was the best thing we have ever done. We Love her as if she was our own. In my heart she is MY daughter. So we have realized this is how we want to make our family grow. By adopting more children in need of a home. This world is over populated enough as it is. it is our duty to these children as people of this world to take care of them. I know not everyone is cut out for it. But the few of us that do have it in our hearts to adopt think that it shouldn't cost as much as it does. The thing is that ALL of the $$$ went to some greety lawyer and that IS what kills me is that he walked away ten + thousand dollars richer and we obviously walked away with a priceless jewel, but struggle to make ends meet. When that money could have gone to her college fund or something like that. What can we do to try and change the laws to where these lawyers aren't the ones walking away with our money.??????
Answer: I share your mentality, I get where you're coming from.
BUT~ we can always skip the lawyer process. In some established orphanage, they have connections to legal authorities who'll take care of the paperwork. These people are payed minimum fees. I guess that's why not a lot of them are doing it. I thik the government should really look into alocating more of these minimum-fees workers to orphanages.
Question: Are "group homes" for children waiting to be adopted? How do they relate to "orphanages"?
How doe they relate to "foster families"?
Answer: Since this is the adoption section, I will only talk about Group Homes for children that are in foster care.
Yes, group homes can have children who are awaiting adoption, but they can also have children who are in foster care, but are not "legally free" for adoption. Group homes usually are a mix of children waiting to be adopted and those waiting for their parents to work their case plans, so they can go home.
They are modern-day orphanges. Group homes can house anywhere from 8 to hundreds of children. Instead of foster parents, they have House Staff that work at the group home. Some even have their own schools, as opposed to having the children goto Public School.
Many teens in the foster care system stay in group homes, because they are harder to place into foster families. I was in two group homes as a foster kid and they are worse than being in a foster family.
Question: How many children are waiting to be adopted?
Answer: Hundreds of thousands in all countries. You can use the US Census Bureau for exact US statistics. Many countries lie about how many children are waiting for adoption because they think it makes them look bad.
Question: At a local clinic there are 8 men, 5 women, and 3 children in a waiting room.? If patients are randomly selected find the probability that:
A) There is at least one child among them.
B) There are exactly two children among them.
Answer: You need to say how many patients are selected - or is this number also random?
Question: what is the technical name for a home for children who either orphans or waiting to be adopted? Not an orphanage ... i know it sounds odd but tracy beaker lives in one . I keep thinking care home but thats for elderly people er... can anyone help ? Thanks .
Answer: Well, it's different in different parts of the world and a lot of the time they're just called the house name, but I would suggest childrens' care home or something like that. Hope I helped :)
Question: Is there a big need for foster homes for children? Or is there a waiting list or something like that? I heard once that it was practically overflowing basically, if you know what I mean. But some friends of mine said that they were put on a waiting list (this was for a baby though). So, I guess maybe I'm just curious...
Answer: Generally foster homes are short term care for kids whose parents can't keep them due to legal or economic issues. Foster parents are paid by the State to take care of the kids assigned to their care; its a business.
The waiting list tends to mean adoption. There are a lot of adults who want to adopt a child but there aren't enough kids up for adoption.
Personally, I dislike the foster care system in the US because its about money. Kids should only be put into foster homes as a last resort, i.e., when no biological relatives or family friends are available to take the kid in. Adoption is a permanent solution for kids who need stability and affection.
