Alternate Service
Normally, when you start a case you are required to serve the defendant by process server or certified mail/restricted delivery/return receipt. But, sometimes you can't find the defendant so you can ask the court for permission to serve the defendant in a different way - by publishing notice of the case in a newspaper or posting at a shelter or some other location the defendant is known to go.
Question: What're the laws of alternate service in Canada? My girlfriend can't locate her estranged husband for service? of divorce papers? Any ideas about locating him? His sister was mum, and his last known address well he's not there.
Answer: The internet may be a way to go search by his real name then any other name that you have known him to use. Nick names, pet names, words or phrases. If this fail be prepared to pay some money to the PPSA office to do a VERBAL name search this is if he owns a vehicle or some item that has to have a lien or security attached to it. Then try the land registry office. His work place but they do not give out information. Something that I had done was to get a MOTION to have the work place divulge information as to his address or serve it to the work location and of course you HAVE to get a name and signature of the person who accepted the papers. I found my person through both these government offices. The vehicle licensing office but I do not know if this loop hole has been closed. File a motion of them too to get this info. The reason being is that this is of vital importance you might get through all depends on whose day it is.. Check the Canada 411 reverse name search/phone number. The problem is if he is living somewhere with some one else it will be harder to get his info because he would not be listed. May be Equifax you are "married he may have updated info.???
If you show up most places with a motion from the court they cannot deny you the info. If they do, file a motion on them to appear in court to give his info.
Do some research online got to www.attorneygeneral.gov.on.ca. search the family law under divorce proceedings. or go to the public library on how to find someone or the salvation army.

Question: What can a bank do to improve service delivery through alternate channels for banking?
Answer: For a bank, the main channel for its service delivery is its branch network. Its first alternative channel is ATM. It can open as may ATMs at possible. Another option is to have a mobile ATM. It might be a VAN or such a vehicle, which can be brought to any village. It should be connected to the bank's network by satellite connection. By this way, villagers might also be able to withdraw money.
Second alternative channel might be mobile banking. People should be able to withdraw and transfer money through mobile. The amount will be deducted from the mobile holder's talk time (in case of prepaid customers) or debited in the next bill of the customer (in case of postpaid customers).
Question: Ways to avoid Internal Revenue Service Alternate Minimum Tax?
Answer: V. B. is mistaken about "make less money."
While the AMT was INTENDED to strike super-wealthy taxpayers, its often called the stealth tax because it sneaks up on so many unsuspecting people. Indeed, it is by far one of the most dreaded provisions in the tax code. You're likely to confront the AMT, for example, if you make $100,000 or more a year -- or if you make $75,000 and write off such mundane things as state taxes and interest on a home-equity loan. The AMT isn't about how much you earn, really; it's about making sure that no one has so many deductions and credits he doesn't pay some tax.
The larger problem is personal and dependent exemptions, the standard deduction, state and local taxes, and miscellaneous itemized deductions. In fact, the IRS estimated that in 2007, nearly 95 percent of AMT revenues was attributable to these fairly common deductions.
The characteristics most likely to give rise to AMT liability for "ordinary" taxpayers who do not operate businesses are:
A large number of personal exemptions
A large amount of state and local taxes paid
A large amount of miscellaneous itemized deductions
A large amount of deductible medical expenses
The bargain element of incentive stock options
A large amount of capital gains
Hope this helps!

Unfortunately, Yahoo has announced that their Briefcase Service would close on 30 March 2009. I am keen for an equally reliable free service. Please suggest. Thanks
Answer: You should try http://box.net. It is a free service that has been around for years, continuously improving. It has a much more appealing interface than Yahoo! Briefcase and it comes standard with 1GB storage and FREE sharing of files to other users.
Or, if that does not appeal to you, here is a listing of other free file storage sites: http://tinyurl.com/csvcho

Question: Alternate methods for getting fast internet service? I am having issues with my cable internet company. I would just get regular high speed internet, but it is not available in my area. So, if I don't want to use super-slow dial up, cable internet is the way to go. However, I am having problems with the company. I want to know if it is possible for me to use the cable modem I already have to access free or low cost internet without having to deal with this blasted company and their high rates?
Answer: Look on a site called www.dslreports.com and there is a place you can enter your zipcode or areacode and find out what is available in your area. There may be a wireless broadband provider that would be at a lower cost. You can also see user comments.
Question: Is there any alternate service like paypal..?
Answer: * AlertPay: Ranks 6,948, which is up nearly double from February 2008. Our top choice for the most viable alternative to eBay -- a secure and fast way to pay online.
* Moneybookers: Ranks 4,739. With high ranking and 2,050+
organizations linking to it, so moneybookers.com must be popular!
* RevolutionMoneyExchange: Long name, but a nice interface, and excellent viral marketing program. They give you $25 to open an account and $10 for each person you refer (up to $500). Ranks 72,666 (up from February ranking of 254,063).
* TrialPay: Ranks 4,965. This payment processing solution offers shoppers free product from blue chip companies; apparently it's notviable for small end companies to participate.
* OBOPAY: Ranks 169,025. Great user interface, marketing
themselves as the PayPal alternative. They pay you $10 to join! Not available to Virginia residents. Requires a mobile telephone number.
* E-Gold: Ranks 5,972. This one's backed by gold (or silver, platinum or palladium)! Best of all, payment is immediate and there are no chargebacks - you get paid and stay paid!
* PayMate: Ranks 918,688. Clever name for Australian site (works for New Zealanders, too.)
* Allpay Ranks 1,512,487. It's the U.K.'s only payment solution that's also used throughout Europe as well as the United States.
* XOOM: Ranks 25,480. This money transfer service accepts funds from major credit cards, your bank account or PayPal. Can't figure out why anyone would use PayPal to fund a XOOM money transfer.
* Interac: Ranks 432,349. Available only in Canada, this e-mail money transfer transaction is like sending cash and cannot be reversed. The only thing they protect is your financial information.
* checkfree: Ranks 238,281. Helps you pay bills online. This is merchant account, so you can use it on eBay, but it's not really a viable PayPal alternative.
* FirePay: Ranks 439,549. With virtually no user interface explaining the site, it's unwelcoming to new users.
* BidPay: Still ranks 457,897. Had a loyal following, but closed operations December 31, 2007.

Question: How can I use my Yahoo Mail alternate address for services like groups? I want to verify my Yahoo Mail alternate address so I can use it for other services like groups. When I try to verify it now, I get a message saying:
* Your email address is in an invalid format.
* Please enter an email address not associated with an existing Yahoo! account, or activate Yahoo! Mail for this new account.
I want messages I send to the group to show as coming from the alternate address.
Answer: How do I verify my email address?
In order to use an email address for Yahoo! Groups, the address must be verified. The easiest way to set up your account is to use the Membership Wizard. The wizard will show all of the email addresses you currently have available for use in Yahoo! Groups. Any unverified addresses will be listed at the bottom of the second page. Next to the address will be a Verify link. Click on the link to generate a verification email that will be sent to you at that address. Follow the instructions contained in the email to complete the process.
If the email address you wish to use is not listed, click on the Add new email address link.
If you are having difficulty verifying an address, please read the following troubleshooting steps.
The email never arrives
If you are not getting the verification email at all, please make sure you are using a valid email address. If you have tried to verify your alternate email address several times and you still never receive the mail although your address is valid, we recommend asking your ISP if they are blocking any mail from Yahoo!. If you have your mail forwarded, you may not receive the verification email. Also, please note that while the mail will arrive quickly, it is not instantaneous. In some cases, the email may be delayed several hours due to Internet traffic and the email delivery route. If you and your ISP are not blocking any email and if it has been over 24 hours since you've tried to verify your alternate email address, please let us know.
No code in the email
If you are receiving the verification email, but there is no code in the body of the email (around the middle of the email, surrounded by asterisks), you may not be viewing the correct email. The Groups verification email is different from the email you received when you first registered for your Yahoo! account. However, if you are viewing the correct email and cannot see a confirmation code, please forward this email to us. Please send it as regular text, not as an attachment. We will then investigate the problem further.
Alternate email address did not match
If you have received the verification email with the code and you've followed the instructions, but have received an error that your email address did not match, it is possible that you have used a different email address than the one on record for your account. If these addresses are different, the verification will not work. Please note that you cannot verify your "@yahoo.com" email address. Your alternate email address is the non-Yahoo! address you specified when you registered for your account. In order to check what email address you have with us, go to your My Groups page and click on Email Preferences.
Incorrect password
If your password did not work with the verification code and alternate email address, please make sure you are using the correct password. This password is the same one you use with your Yahoo! ID in order to access the different areas of Yahoo!. It is not your security key password or password on your alternate email address. It must be your regular Yahoo! password, entered exactly as you would enter it when signing into your account.
Invalid code
If you receive a message that the confirmation code is invalid, please make sure that the code in your email matches the code that you have entered into the confirmation page. If it was not automatically entered for you, we highly recommend copying and pasting the code into the code field. Copying and pasting the code may prevent errors since some letters or numbers may look similar. The code can be found about halfway through the confirmation email, surrounded by asterisks.
Question: Alternative to AT&T landline service in the SF bay area? Every month, I am stuck with a $40 bill after making about 15 minutes of outgoing local-toll calls to SFO. The base plan is supposedly only $23.95 and then a lot of taxes and calling plan charges get tacked on. Is there an alternate service provider in the south bay? I do not want cable based solutions because it has problems when power is unavailable or when 911 needs to be called.
Answer: here is a website I've used.......just put in your address and see all the other providers in your area!!!

Question: Does Yahoo care about their customers? Alternate services? After reading through all the questions and complaints here it seems Yahoo doesn't really care about it's customers. Do they really think someone will pay money for a service (their premium services) that doesn't provide any customer service. If you can't find an answer to your problem already on the FAQ's pages, you're screwed. They will send you the same automated response, that either don't help or pertain to the problem, over and over. They suck. I'm switching and telling all my friends and family to as well, some of whom I brought to Yahoo.
Anyone have alternate e-mail services that actually have live customer service? I'd gladly pay for an e-mail provider that cares and has phone support.
If you read my post, I have contacted their customer service. They have not been able to help me. They won't even tell me what caused the problem. They send me canned reponses with the info that is already on the FAQ pages - info that doesn't help, doesn't relate to the problem, and they can't even tell me what happened or why I had this issue. I've already worked through the FAQ's and tried their so called solutions. But they fail to resolve the issue.
It's typical customer support, they follow a flow chart (the same info already posted in the help section. If the problem isn't contained in the set format, for some reason they won't kick the problem further up the line to someone who can think outside the box (flow chart), and has the knowledge and skills to help.
Unless your problem is minor or very easy to solve, your out of luck. Make sure anything important in your e-mail account is backed up somewhere else.
Answer: I have never had a problem getting ahold of Yahoo! when I had a problem with something and it has always been worked out by Yahoo! in a speedy manner.
If you can't find a solution or a contact for Yahoo! then you are looking in the wrong places.
