Question: I don't understand why some cultures distinguish between parallel and cross cousins? If you look at this chart http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Cousin-Kinship-chart.png you will see that they are both share the same genetics, so what's the difference? Wikipedia says something about incest taboo with parallel cousins but don't they share the same amount genetically to you as cross-cousins? The only difference is the gender of the parent's sibling.

Answer: It's just cultural and this is very common for Native American and African societies. Also, in the world MANY MANY people marry their first cousins.

Question: what is the relationship of my cross cousin's first cousin to me? cross cousin = he is my mother's brother's son cross cousin's first cousin = is my cross cousin's mother's sister's son. So in simple word's, in another way, I want to know the relationship between my mother's sister-in-law's sister's son. Is he my first cousin? second cousin? parallel cousin? or what??

Answer: he would be a fifth cousin. its legal and werid you must be from alabama or mississippi. i date a 6th cousin once it wasnt bad.

Answer: That would be wonderful. Guys should have the same rights and freedoms as girls. Girls can wear whatever they want and nobody cares, so why should guys have less freedoms? Why do guys allow themselves to be subject to the tyranny of trousers? Its only a matter of social convention. If guys wore skirts and dresses then they would have to care more about their appearances. They wouldn't be so hairy, or so fat, or ugly. The world would have better looking guys. Answer: I think if they get married before they come here there's not a problem but I'm no expert. It also depends on where they live, I think. Each state has different laws.

None I have seen prohibits cousins having sex. Eg - Qld defines incest as between a person and "the person's offspring or other lineal descendant, or sibling, parent, grandparent, uncle, aunt, nephew or niece" NT uses "(a) a parent or grandparent; (b) a child or other lineal descendant; (c) a brother, sister, half-brother or half-sister." etc.

It's a matter of flexibility, and comfort. You can't really practice because it becomes an issue of how high your thighs would be. The only way is for her to lose weight. Bottom line. Question: Why is it disrespectful to cross your legs during a Catholic mass? Answer: In the Orthodox Church it is supposedly taboo and considered to be very disrespectful to cross your legs during mass, because it is too casual and too relaxed for being in church. For example, when you do sit in church, you should sit attentively, with your feet on the floor, ready to stand. In our North American culture, while its not really taboo or a "rule" some people still see this as proper etiquette for mass and considered respectful.

Answer: Hm, I'm a touchy-feely person myself sometimes and even for me, that is going a bit far between cousins. I'd be feeling pretty awkward around him now. You may need to gently, non-verbal or otherwise, give him some hints that there is a line he is crossing. A line you are kind of letting him cross, it seems like. Answer: Here is my impression: The genetic issue is one big concern, but you've already thought of that. Did you guys grow up in the same household? When cousins grow up in the same house, the emotional relationship often becomes like brother and sister. This might make things very awkward for you and your family. It sounds that if your cousin was the daughter of an uncle rather than the daughter of an aunt, there would be no taboo against marrying her, but now there is because of how she is related to you. I will admit, to my western mind, I see no difference between the two types of cousins -- they're both just "cousins" to me. And because I'm a Christian, I would not feel guilty because I don't believe God would punish someone in your situation. But you are the one who must deal with your family and conscience. I would simply give you this advice: 1. How will your family react if you marry her? Can you live both with any disruption that causes? 2. Are there any social disadvantages (jobs, living arrangements, etc.) that would occur if you marry each other, because she is your aunt's daughter? Can you live with those? 3. What will happen to you spiritually if you marry her? Will you become estranged from your beliefs? Can you live with the consequences of your choice? I know your heart is torn over this. I pray your family can support you in your decision and that you can sleep peacefully at night when you have both made your choice.

Now the real nitty gritty of cousin marriage is successive inbreeding. Say your mother marries her cousin, and you marry your cousin, and your daughter marries her cousin. That can increase the risk of genetic defects to 10 or 13%. Double first cousins are a big problem too. Now, before anyone brings up the psychological aspect, or the religious aspect. The book of Leviticus allows cousin marriage, and the Catholic Church allows cousin marriage with a dispensation. It is not a sin. As for the psychological aspect. It can cause family problems with the current stigma in place, but once the stigma is broken down this may be the norm and cause minimal family problems. Of course, for cultures that allow cousin marriage, whether cross cousins or parallel cousins, there will not be a psychological and family dysfunction. So, what do you think? Should cousin marriage be legalized, or should they ban it for being icky? Question: How to get mother to stop her cross-talk? When I am talking to others, if my Mother doesn't like what I am saying, she will interrupt and tell me to be quiet. I am a grown older woman and her cross-talk causes my stress level to go up. My younger sister whined at me that I left my car door open. It was the front door and I was sitting in the back. As I told her that, my Mother cross-talked over me, shouting at me to be quiet and pointing her finger in my face. My sister walked on and never apologized for her error. I walked out of the parking lot and took the bus home. They all had my birthday dinner without me. I asked my cousin if her daughter has found a job yet. My Mother interrupted, cross-talked over me and changed the subject. Besides the stress, it is degrading to be told to be quiet as I try to express myself. People need to communicate. Let them talk, I am not an arguer. But, my Mother has to have everything pleasant at all times. She cannot handle conflict of any kind and has to rescue everyone. If someone is uncomfortable with my question, isn't it up to them to handle it themselves? My Mother is 74 and has always been this way. I tried discussing this with her. Answer: It's not the family gatherings, it's you and your mother. She must be uncomfortable with your questions to other people or just needs to control you and your conversation. I would just not talk around her too much but have conversations away from her ears. Shaking her finger in your face is not what I call 'have everything pleasant'. You may need to review your questions, also. Some families don't approve of prying questions, even with each other.

Answer: To cross the border by LAND, each person needs a certified birth certificate and a photo I.D. Passports will not be needed for land travel until 2008 at the earliest. See website below to read the law for yourself.
