Interracial Marriage
An interracial marriage is a marriage between members of different races.
Question: Interracial Marriage? I see a lot of people in interracial marriage in the U.S, and I've heard that the interracial marriage existed for very a long time.
So is it possible that every European American(even those
with very white skin) is at least 1% black/Asian/Latino?
Answer: Very possible. Although, I don't know if EVERY European American has another race in them. But I would think that a good majority of them would. Even when interracial marriages weren't legal, people still had sex with people of other races. This existed hundreds (if not thousands) of years ago also in Europe.
Look at the Hispanic ethnic group. They are actually a combination of races. They can be any mixture of Native American, White, and sometimes Black.
If you agree with what most scientists on the subject believe, then all humans originally came from either Africa or Asia. (Though most experts think Africa). So if you think about it that way, every human on Earth is of part African (or Asian) descent.
Plus, some people don't "look" another race but they are. Look at the actor Wentworth Miller. His mother is Black, but most people would say that he looks "totally White". A lot of people think Cameron Diaz is totally White. But "Diaz's father is a second-generation Cuban-American and her mother has Native American, English and German ancestry".
Question: Interracial marriage? I have been married for two years. I am Caucasion, from the U.S., and my wife is Chinese. We dated for about 5 years before marriage. I love her very much - she is one of the most amazing people I've ever met. But, I find it hard, sometimes, because of our cultural and ethnic differences: the missed jokes, different mentality, endless (sometimes cute) grammatical errors, ... I'm scared that my feelings about these differences will affect our marriage. can interracial marriage work in the long run??
Answer: Yes. Like any marriage it takes love and understanding. Even when it seems like everything is just going to explode, remember, you love each other. Marriage is hard even for the best matched people... but it is worth it, if you married for the right reasons up front.
祝您好运 (good Luck)
Question: How does interracial marriages affect the traditional views of the Institution of Marriage? I'm writing a paper on interracial marriage, and i need help with opinions and facts! if you have any please let me know!
Answer: Interracial marriages have been going on for thousands of years..doesn't affect any traditional views of marriage..interviewing an interracial couple would be wise, along with a couple of the same race and interviewing couples of different cultural backgrounds may give you a broader view of marriages
Question: Marriage Licenses invented to prevent interracial unions, why do we allow the same discrimination to persist? http://hnn.us/articles/4708.html
With this history of marriage licenses being used to prevent interracial marriages, why do we allow the same discourse and type of discrimination to persist? Will opponents today be judged like the racial purity folks of the past? Isn't this why we should always error on the side of individual freedom in personal affairs?
Answer: I agree. The bottom line is, does anyone really care what two strangers do with their lives?
Question: Was interracial marriage the slippery slope that is now leading to homosexual marriage? We should have left interracial marriage illegal, like God intended it. The tower of Babel was a story that proved that God wanted people of different languages to be seperate from each other, and interracial marriage is violating God's will, much like homosexual marriage is now.
By the way, I AM being sarcastic.
Answer: I think I love you.
Question: How do you handle an interracial marriage ? My girlfriend and I have been together for several years and I intend to marry her, but the twist is, she's white and I'm Chinese.
Every time we visit my parents I have to be the translator and both my parents and her tries so hard to make it work but without direct communication, it's always very awkward.
So my question is, to those who are in an interracial marriage, how do you handle this?
Answer: You stop over thinking it. Stop making it about race. You are just two people who found each other.
So.. your parents and her don't speak the same language... she won't be around your parents all the time. It only matters that you two can communicate. You could buy her some Chinese classes to help her learn a bit to make her more comfortable.
A good friend of mine is married to an Indian and his parents don't speak much english at all. It is uncomfortable at times for her since she rarely knows what they are talking about... but they've all relaxed a bit now. He no longer translates everything, at her bidding, and sometimes she's excluded and that's not that much fun. But it makes her more comfortable than him translating everything. She, has no intention of learning the language. Or i should say.. she tried and seems to have no ability to retain any other language than her own.
If you won't be spending every day with your parents, it's not going to be that big of a problem. Once married you'll find you'll visit less. Even if you both were of the same race. It's just something that naturally happens. Life gets in the way. Make sure when the kids are born you teach them both languages from the start so they can communicate with the grandparents.
Just relax.. this happens all the time. Don't fret the small stuff like language.
Question: What do you think of interracial marriage? I have no problem with interracial marriage. My sister is married out of our race and the guy is amazing so for the people who want my opinion on it there it is.
Answer: i am in an interracial marriage, he's arabic, i'm american and i think its amazing. it can be difficult at times and there can easily be mis-communication while you're trying to get used to each other's accents but ultimately, i love it. i love learning about his culture and introducing him to things in mine. its definitely a challenge but i wouldn't have it any other way.
Question: Wont legalizing interracial marriage lead to people marrying their dogs? Marriage is traditionally only within one's race and faith. Why should we change it now?
Lets be real, these were the arguments made when interracial marriage became real and these are the same failed arguments used against same sex marriage.
Answer: Interracial marriage is legal. Reading your question closely I see that you know that and are making a point about the types of arguments people make against same sex marriage.
Here is a Wikipedia article about the type of logical fallacy you are referring to. It is known as the "slippery slope" fallacy. It shows up in debates on all sorts of different issues. "If we allow this, it's a slippery slope to this, and before you know it, it's cats and dogs living together, mass hysteria!" Sounds familiar, yes? Question: Do u think it would be better to stop interracial marriage among white and blacks? As the increasing number of interracial marriage, this has cause an increase of race which is not entirely pure. Base on my research on the internet, Black people seem to be more open in in terms of interracial marriage compared to the whites.. My question is- Would you want a generation that lost its european heritage and also looks? My answer is definitely no..
So what do u think?
Answer: I AGREE 100 % with you
We do need to stop interracial marriage! The white race is going downhill...we are no longer the majority, we are the minority!
I know i'm going to get thumb downs....but i have free speech
Question: What's so horrible about not believing in interracial marriage? I personally have no problem with interracial marriage, but I'm willing to accept that some people are just not comfortable with the idea. As long as they're not trying to outlaw interracial marriage, I'm not going to throw stones at them. Does anyone else see where I'm coming from?
Answer: Yeah. I agree with you. Not everyone has to agree with everything that goes on in the world. But they do have to tolerate things such as interracial marraige. It's all about being tolerant even if you don't personally agree.
Question: Philosophically speaking, should an individual state have the power to prohibit interracial marriage? Why or why not?
I know about Loving v. Virginia, but in your personal opinion, if a state wanted to, should it be allowed to prevent interracial marriage?
Why or why not?
Should it be allowed to prevent gay marriage?
Why or why not?
Thanks.
Answer: No, because it would violate the U.S. Constitution.
No state law can contradict the U.S. Constitution.
Question: during the 50s and 60s, what was the official position of the Catholic church ragarding interracial marriage? I'm really curious about the interracial marrige controversy during the 60s, and what people thought about it, especially Catholics and really the Catholic church. Were they for it, against it, or neutral? It happened so recently, and many people who fought on both sides of the issue are still alive today, and I'm curious as to what they had to say (I myself am a product of an interracial marriage). This is particularly fascinating because today it's an almost laughable notion that interracial marriages were once against the law. Please enlighten.
Answer: The Church was never taught against interracial relationships infact many Catholic scholars have long believed the Bible gives an early example of an interacial marriage in Moses and his wife who was a Kushite(Ethiopian) and thus most likely black. Another clue to this is God's punishment to Moses sister who spoke against his wife, Moses sister became elbino like a fitting problem to someone who has a problem with dark skin.
By the way there was a african/black Pope in the 6th century and many Catholics hope Cardinal Arinze who is black will be the next Pope, because of his great fidelity to the faith.
Question: Are there any anti interracial marriage groups around? 40% of people in Alabama voted to keep anti-interracial marriage laws on the books in 2000. There has to be some big groups supporting this position around. Anyways, I'd never support them, I'm just curious of their logic.
Answer: i'm not sure if they were anti interracial marriage. they just didn't want any black people in their family LOL
Question: Why do people think those who oppose interracial marriage are racist? I am white and not at all racist. I just don't support interracial marriage. I treat everyone with respect, regardless of their race.
Answer: Well it depends on your motives and the motives of many for whom it is still an issue have racist motives.
Question: Should interracial marriage have been subject to a vote of the people instead of the courts? Those courts that declared a ban on interracial marriage unconstitutional..............
Those are "activist judges" by your standards.
Should interracial marriage have been subjected to a vote by the people?
(just answer the question, no need for off-topic rants.)
Answer: Civil rights should be guaranteed, not voted on.
Question: Why do parents disapprove of interracial marriage? I'm Indian, and my parents would hate for me to marry someone outside of our race, especially if the girl was white. I know most white parents probably hold the same views.
But why exactly is interracial marriage frowned upon? Is it purely because of skin color? Or is it because of the stereotypes associated with each ethnicity?
I ask this question because I have two parakeets that like each other. One is green, and one is blue.
Answer: Indian culture values marriage more than many other cultures.
Indian parents just want their kids to be happy and have a long lasting marriage.
An interracial relationship is viewed with some scepticism because they believe that it may be a fleeting affair - an infatuation.
Marriages are known to last only when they are built on solid foundations - often based on common values and compatibility factors.
It is not about skin color or stereotypes (well, it might...). Even if you bring home an Indian girl that your parents see as being uncompatible with you, they will disapprove. So its not racism.
If you can prove to your parents that your marriage will be a rock solid one, they'll give you their blessing even if your soulmate parakeet is white.
Question: If the majority of Americans wanted interracial marriage to be illegal, should it be? Please answer the question. I am simply asking a question, yet so many people find it hard to answer. Does the majority ALWAYS rule, or if something is blatanly unfair, should it be overturned, even if the majority say no?
So again, please, PLEASE answer this question. If the majority of Americans (or even the majority in a certain state, if it should be a state issue) think interracial marriage should be illegal, should it be?
Answer: The problem with your pitiful attempt to make an analogy to same-sex marriage is that marriage is defined as between a man and a woman, with race being immaterial. Interracial marriage doesn't change the definition or basis of a marriage, therefore its prohibition was not constitutional.
But the people can constitutionally define marriage as being between one man and one woman. There is nothing unconstitutional or "unfair" (whine, whine) or bigoted or taking of a right about it, because it applies to everybody equally, regardless of race, religion or sexual orientation.
Remember, it was the US that told the Mormons they had to get rid of polygamy to join the Union. That set a precedence on the government being able to declare what is and isn't marriage.
Of course, based on your belief, then if Utah chose to allow polygamy, then that would be all good and legal, too. And if Oregon chose to allow multigamy and group marriage, that would be OK.
The fact is that it is exactly this type of decision that must be left to the people, not the courts. The court was given no authority to grant rights or decide social policies. When it does, it is a usurpation of the peoples' rights.
Question: Was ending slavery, womens rights, and interracial marriage left up to the voters to decide? Was ending slavery, womens rights, and interracial marriage left up to the voters to decide?
Answer: slavery - no, 13th amenment ended it
ban on inter-racial marriage - no, supreme court case, loving vs virginia ended it
women's rights - no the 19th amendment gave women the vote
Question: Christians: How do you feel about interracial marriage? Just be honest and don't answer me with any kind of glib politically correct bullshit! So how do you feel about interracial marriage?
Answer: I'm conservative, white, male, and a born again Christian. My wife is Korean and she is also a Christian. There is absolutely nothing in the Bible condemning interracial marriage. However, marrying an unbeliever is contrary to God's will as well as gay marriage. Interracial marriage between two believers is fine from a Christian standpoint!
Question: Do u think it would be better to ban interracial marriage among white and blacks? As the increasing number of interracial marriage, this has cause an increase of race which is not entirely pure. Base on my research on the internet, Black people seem to be more open in in terms of interracial marriage compared to the whites.. My question is- Would you want a generation that lost its european heritage and also its european beauty? My answer is definitely no..
Answer: Uh.. I'm an american.. my wife is an american.... who cares about heritage... our heritage is *American*
