Question: what's the difference in an orphanage and a residential care facility? How do they differ? Can you take in more kids at one facility than the other? What is the pay difference? Does the layout of the kids rooms change drastically? Can you have kids that range in a difference of ages(5-10 years),or do they have to be close to the same age in one or the other?
Answer: orphanage is governed by state and federal regulations.....residential is usually privately owned...and paid only partly by state funding....depending on the country ....cheers : )
Question: I need a Washington DC agency that provides RESIDENTIAL CARE FACILITY (RCF) for young adult or teenagers. Not Looking to place a teenager in a independent living setting.
Answer: I know that there is one on Wisconsin Ave in Northwest DC. It's near Jennifer Street if I remember correctly. I can't remember that dang name. If I do I will contact you. It really helped my niece when she was still a young teen.
Okay, I found it. the Psych Institute of Washington. Web address: http://www.psychinstitute.com/
I hope this helps you.
Question: You find a client in a residential care facility reading porn magazines in the common room, what do you do?!?
Answer: I would tell them althought there is nothing wrong with porn it is best to look/watch/read it in the privacy of their room as it might make others uncomfortable.
Question: Who do I call to find out what the rules and codes are for a residential Adult Foster Care facility? I live in Washington and have a next door neighbor that has turned her home in to an Adult Foster care home. She has made some unattractive changes to her home and all of the neighbors are concerned. For example is she allowed to advertise using large block letters on the front of her house? I would like to look in to this and have no idea who I should contact.
Answer: health and human services in the state that you reside
Question: Imagine you are 82 years old and living in a residential care facility - what rights do you want & do you ...? have any responsibilites?
Answer: It depends on the person, many elderly people will seek independence first- my grandfather is 90 and lives on his own. He is fully capable to care for himself- in fact, he is in better shape then some people 40 years younger then him. If i am elderly and cant take care of myself i want to be treated like a human and not be forced to take unnecissary drugs and to be well taken care of.
Question: why is taccurate recording and reporting in the residential aged care facility so important?
Answer: It is important because if those recordings and reportings are not accurate then death can occur and depending on your status in the residential care facility you could be disciplined accordingly. Plus it helps the rest of the staff monitor any changes in the resident in determining whether hospital care is needed
Question: Does anyone know of any residential care facilities for children with Down Syndrome? Residential facilities close to GA would be prefered.
Answer: Contact Georgia's agency for persons with disabilities. Tell them you need a case worker. The case worker will help you find either a group home or assisted living situation for the person w/ Down syndrome as well as the funding. Good Luck!
Question: i am looking for activities for senior citizens in residential care facility. any suggestions? no cards/bingo!? we have bingo once a week and church services once a week but we need more of a variety. they are not interested in playing cards or any kind of crafts and board games. i am at wits end! i would like to get them interacting with one another. we have a small flower garden one resident enjoys working in. any ideas? help!
Answer: dancing. It's good aerobics for them.
Do you remember in school where we had to bring something from home and tell about it( show and tell)
Have them tell about something that happen good in their lives if they don't have anything to show.
Ask them to put ideas in a suggestion box of what they would like to do.
Question: what is the function of the residential aged care facility?
Answer: My sister works at one. To hear her talk, it's a place where people put their elderly to die. The people don't receive the proper care due to under staffing, and most of the nurses that work in them don't care very much about the people they are there to take care of.
Question: Can anyone in the aged care/health industry give me an indepth view of the Residential classification scale? I am an aged care student working in the aged care industry but because i don't work in a residential care facility and work directly with the community i don't know much in depth knowledge about the RCS (Residential care scale) if anyone can offer help to my questions i need to write assignments on it would be greatly appreciated! [email protected]
Answer: i couldn't find an indepth view...of RCS....are you in Australia?
Residential Care Scale Funding
Therapeutic touch is an accepted treatment in Q19-20 Other Services and Therapy Programs of the Residential Care Scale. Residential care subsidy requires an assessment of functional status and care needs and a specific care plan that indicates the procedure for, and regularity of Therapeutic Touch treatments. The Therapeutic Touch care plan must be developed by a registered nurse, physical therapist, occupational therapist, diversional therapist, or speech therapist and can be implemented by staff trained in Therapeutic Touch. Regular evaluation is required to ascertain ongoing benefits of treatment.
Therapeutic Touch is recognised by the Nursing Board of Australia as a nursing intervention within the scope of regular nursing practice.

Question: residential care facilities for the elderly in san diego and how to find a list of licenced facilities? seems there must be a web site to find out about elderly residential facilities and which are licenced--not getting very far with my search--I mean those that are about 6 beds each
Answer: Penny--
One of the best places to call for answers to questions like this one is your local Area Agency on Aging. They will know about residential care options in the county and other services that support family caregivers. When you call ask for "Information and Assistance" or the person who helps family caregivers--if you are a caregiver for someone who is needing this help. The Area Agency that serves San Diego is:
Aging and Independent Services
9335 Hazard Way
San Diego, CA 92123
Contact numbers I have for this group are:
website: www.ais-sd.org
Business phone: 858-495-5885
Outside San Diego County: 800-510-2020
Hope this helps! Best wishes!
Question: were can I buy a signal system or alarm system for residential elderly care facility in San Diego ?
Answer: HELP!!!....I'VE FALLEN AND I CAN'T GET UP!!
Question: I am looking for resources in Southern California to help deal with elderly care issues and custodial situatio? A relative was the victim of elderly abuse and was removed from the situation but is not of presence of mind to care for themselves so are in a residential care facility. But they don't want to be there. They want to be back in the place where there could be more potential for harm. What do you do when a relative fights you and won't believe that you have their best interests at heart. Does anyone have any personal insight, legal advice or practical advice?
Answer: I went through a similar situation with my grandmother... after 5 years of taking care of her, she became more than I could handle and required around the clock attention at a facility with other people. She preferred to be in her own place with family members. After a few months, she started enjoying the other peoples company and the activities that were offered. Whether your relative is able to stay in a home situation or not, I would ask neighbors or relatives for references for the caregiver or the center they are being sent into, so you don't end up in this situation again. Unfortunately, other relatives were sent to certain places were they were left malnourished, constantly unattended and ignored. The only other option is to move them to your place if you are able to provide the adequate care or hire someone to do so in your home. It is never an easy decision any way you decide to go...
Question: I am trying to locate startup grants for residential care facilities(adolescent group homes) in North Carolina
Answer: It is hard to find grants to start a business. Unlike the myths that some perpetuate, federal government and even private foundations hardly give grant money for a for-profit business. And yes, grants mean PAPERWORK - lots and lots of it, that is why a cottage industry of grant writers was born.
Nonetheless, you can go to the Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance (CFDA) http://www.cfda.gov and Grants.gov http://www.grants.gov - these are two sites created by the federal government to provide transparency and information on grants. Browse through the listings and see if you can find any grant that would support a for-profit venture.
Even if you buy books on "how to get grants" or list that supposedly has information on grants -- all of them are mere rehash of what CFDA has, albeit packaged differently. But still the info is the same - hardly any grants for starting a for profit business.
Even SBA does NOT give out grants. From the SBA website http://www.sba.gov/expanding/grants.html…
"The U.S. Small Business Administration does not offer grants to start or expand small businesses, although it does offer a wide variety of loan programs. (See http://www.sba.gov/financing for more information) While SBA does offer some grant programs, these are generally designed to expand and enhance organizations that provide small business management, technical, or financial assistance. These grants generally support non-profit organizations, intermediary lending institutions, and state and local governments."
Here is a listing of federal grants for small businesses. See if there is any available for individuals for starting a business -- THERE'S NONE.
http://12.46.245.173/pls/portal30/CATALO…
Most of the federal grants are given to specific target groups with specific requirements (e.g. minority business owners involved in transportation related contracts emanating from DOT - Grant#20.905 Disadvantaged Business Enterprises Short Term Lending Program
Grants are also often given to non profit groups or organizations involved in training or other similar activities (grant 59.043 Women's Business Ownership Assistance that are given to those who will create women's business center that will train women entrepreneurs
For private grants, you may want to check the Foundation Center's Foundation Grants for Individuals Online. It's a subscription based website ($9.95 per month) but their opening blurb only says that the database is ideal for "students, artists, academic researchers, libraries and financial aid offices." Entrepreneurs are apparently not one of them, so I take it they also don't have listings of private foundations who give grants to would-be entrepreneurs.

Question: How do i become a state vendor for health care services? Residential care facility for the elderly (RCFE) health care for the elderly.
Answer: What MizD said. If you don't have a clue where to start, I suggest you think of another option. It is NOT easy to become certified.
You will also need a large insurance plan-that won't be cheap.
Question: Can anyone in the aged care industry explain to me what the RCS is? I am currently studying aged care by distance education as I work in aged care (home care) and cause I don't have direct tutor assistance am stuck on this question.
I need to give a brief summary of what the RCS is, define the assessment period/s, explain what the three categories of assessment are and what documentation is required by the following groups
*care workers *registered nurses/directors of care
and finally what the care workers role is in relation to RCS. Having started in aged care only a month ago and not working directly in a residential age care facility is making some of the questions difficult to answer as homecare is a bit more basic to work in.
Answer: RCS = Resident Care Scale
if u have an email address i can send u some detailed info.
I am a RN div 2 - so was drilled into my head..
Basically during an RCS assessment you need to document at what 'level' they can successfully complete their ADL's (activities of daily living i.e bathing, clothing, eating, hygiene)
U 'rate' them in accordance with the RCS - say if they are highly dependent you would rate them a 1 but if they are extremely independent you would rate them a 5 and in between accordingly.
By using RCS's you can determine the best care plan for the resident and although it sounds crap, it also helps the facility in its funding, the more DEPENDENT resi's u have, the more money the facility will recieve..
Does this help any?
Question: Can someone help me i have to make a care plan with Nursing Diagnosis, Goal, Intervention & Rationale? This is the Scenario to make a care plan. Mrs P is an 86yr old widow in a residential aged care facility. Mrs P has osteoarthritis in most of her joints, but her right hip is particulary painful. She is very stiff and sore in the mornings, but as the day goes on, she 'loosens up' and is able to shower and walk with her tripod stick and standby assistance. She wail have a total hip replacement in 3 weeks time. Someone please help??? its an assignment...
thanks prncessang228 do you have any other ideas what i could write i need 2 hav 2 actual and 1 potental problem. careplans suck!!!
Answer: it's been a long time since i've gone to nursing school but i'll give you the basic with this (the rest you need to fill in yourself-care plans are key to nursing and you need to know how do them with confidence before graduating)
a nursing diagnoses is one that is secondary (or caused by) the primary diagnoses the dr gave. for you patient i would use
-hip pain caused by osteoarthritis for your nursing diagnoses
-Goal would be to have less pain in the mornings and increase mobility
-interventions would be performing ROM (range of motion) exercises while in bed before getting up in the morning to help loosen up the joints. She could also take a mild pain reliever before getting up (have meds at bedside the night before)
-Rationale : this is a scientific reason why your interventions will work. so you would need to find an online article or book that explains how doing ROM and taking pain meds before getting up will help reduce pain and help her be able to move more or better.
I hope this helps. Nursing care plans are tedious and in the beginning of the course, you don't really understand why you have to do them. but as time goes on and you get closer to finishing (and especially when in the field) you totally get why you need them.
Good luck with your schooling!!!
Question: How do you start an Adult Residential Care Home? No funds, equipments, staff, facility/home to start with. Anyone with experience and advice? Thanks so much in advance.
Answer: Go to your state department of mental health website and type in key words there should be lots of information there.
Question: What outcome can I expect from residential care? Are there any parents out there who can understand? We have a teenage son with Aspergers, who was court ordered into a residential treatment program, due to the severity of his behavioral problems. Our son has a complex diagnostic picture and has had extensive treatment. His placement is the renowned, Boy's Town, in Omaha, Nebraska, which is considered by the court to be the leading residential facility in the United States.
Although we struggled many years with our son, he maintained well in school through the sixth-grade. Beginning seventh-grade, however, the school refused to acknowledge a disability and the entire school year passed before an IEP was written. By this time, the damage was done, and our son began to identify with other boys, who also felt alienated and angry. Our son, who was also adopted, felt a compounded sense of rejection, when he was later removed from two middle schools. The situation at home, which had been tenuous, unraveled and our son ended-up in detention, awaiting placement.
Answer: I really have some problems with the administrator's assessment of residential treatment since it is based solely on his or her experience, which in research terms is not enough of a sample.
For instance, how do you define successful outcomes? Is successful outcome based only on the child's behavior once he or she is reunified with the family? That shouldn't be the only criteria for judging residential treatment. Sometimes kids have improved their behavior to a great degree, but when placed back in the environment that they came from, do not do well. However, a lot of them do, which is starting to show up in the research.
Here is an example of the research on Boys Town - "A well specified residential treatment model is described, and preliminary outcome data are presented. The Boys Town Psycho-Educational Model (PEM) empowers direct care staff to be important treatment agents by training them to use systematic teaching techniques. Data obtained on youth served at the center since its inception in December 1995 indicate that the youth have had multiple prior placements and serious psychiatric disorders. The model sustains an active and positive treatment environment as documented by high levels of focused treatment occurring during the youth’s stays. To date, 94% of the youth have departed to placements that were equal to, or less restrictive than, their placements at admission to the program. Of those who had Children’s Global Assessment Scale ratings both at admission and at discharge, 84% (n=21) of the youth had better functioning at discharge."
I guess one of the things you should consider is what kind of restrictive environment do you want your son in, Boy's Town of the Juvenile Justice system? I would say that you will get far better results with Boy's Town.
