Obligation
The amount of money to be paid as support by a parent or spouse in the form of financial support for the child support, medical support, or spousal support.
Question: Obligation? I have an obligation. I want to do synchronized skating and I have done it for 3 years, this would be my 4th. But this summer I started playing tennis, and I really like it. My mom signed me up for the Orchestra because I play an instrument. I want to do synchronized skating because all of my friends are doing it. And I want to do tennis and Orchestra because it is something new. Which one should I do?
I'm also want to do volleyball for school as an after-school program!
Msw. Ryan Speckler,
I do try 2 balance them, but for orchestra and synchronized skating there is a conflict cause for skating i will be going 2 tennesse. and orchestra has a concert 2 days before and we leave 2 days before for skating
Answer: Try all of them!!!! Its good to have alot of different hobbies in life. Try to balance them all, and if you find that you dont like one as much as you thought you would, ou can drop it and still do the other things.
Question: What obligation does humanity have in providing the insurance of health care to others? If there exists such an obligation, where is it derived from?
Bobbi: where does the moral obligation come from?
Answer: Our social & cultural obligation is to help people in need, not necessarily to provide them with health insurance.
The sensitivity to help the needy comes from social evolution. It's been several centuries since Western civilization has been comfortable letting people die in the dirt. Charity as a Judeo-Christian value came to this country with the first waves of immigrants. Then, once our first communities were up and running and prosperous, different charitable organizations and types of 'community chests' were formed to help citizens when they were down and out.
The difference between then and now, is that in those days, excepting widows and orphans, the obligation was always to pay the funds back once you were on your feet again. I still run across people like this who feel obligated to repay charity, but they are few and far between. I think we need to reinsert this value back into the national scene, and I would also include repayment of unemployment benefits in excess of what the individual has paid into the system.
Question: What is the obligation of an airline if the partner airline operating the flight goes bankrupt? Specifically, if I buy tickets from Lufthansa, but United is the flight operator, and United goes belly up, what is Lufthansa's obligation?
thanks!
Answer: You contract is with Lufthansa, not with United, and Lufthansa have an obligation to you from A to B. If Lufthansa's chosen operator goes **** up then it's up to Lufthansa to make alternative arrangements for you. It's probably more complicated than that but that's the gist of it.
If you're leaving the EU and they delay you by several hours or more, you'd also be entitled to compensation under EU law. Mind you, if you leave the continent within a couple of hours of the original, but the journey itself takes many hours longer (eg a stopover or change of planes) then you wouldn't be entitled to compensation!
Question: How long is the obligation for a US commissioned officer in the military? I'm interested in becoming an officer after college and would like to know how long the obligation is for the different branches. Also, if what kind of role does an officer (second lt. to captain) have in combat? Thanks.
I should've probaly mentioned that I'm currently a senior and have paid my way through college. If I was to become an officer it would be as a graduate with a bachelors degree in economics/business.
Answer: Depends on how you were commissioned, as offers incur their Active Duty Service Obligation (ADSO) in various ways: ROTC (typcially 4 years), direct commission based on advance degrees like medical/legal: 3-4 years typcially. There are several other methods. There are some variations for the ROTC-types depending on whether they took Army money for tuition, or paid their own way and did ROTC without compensation. Service Academy grads have different obligations/considerations.
Officers then serve until they complete their ADSO and then resign their comission. Resignations after completing an ADSO are generally approved unless stop-loss due to mission/war requirements or critical shortages in that career field.
I believe that officers also incur a total of 8 year service obligation in active or inactive status just like enlisted. So they are subject to recall if they have not completed 8 years and have not resigned their commission. A few years ago they called back an officer who had completed his ADSO and 8 years, but had never affirmatively resigned his commission. I don't know the results of that but remember it in the news.
That's a gloss-over in a nutshell. The military has a library of regulations that speaks to these issues in microscopic details, so other contributors can clarify/modify/add to what I've said generally.
Question: What is my legal obligation to settle my parents debts when they die? I am the adult son of free-spending, 74-year-old parents who are likely to leave considerable debt upon their deaths. If they were to die tomorrow, what is my legal obligation to settle their debts if their estate has negative net worth?
Answer: Zero.
If, and not wishing it on your parents here, just an example, they both were to pass over tomorrow? Their debts are now part of the probate process. Their heirs will open a probate action for their estate, and all their creditors have the right to file a claim against their remaining assets. Any that are validated are paid out of the assets, and the remaining assets distributed to the heirs.
If there's no assets, they don't get paid. Period. NEVER co-sign anything for your parents at this point, and don't have your name on any of the deeds of property as a co-owner. :) Just a word to the wise.
And, unfortunately, the creditors know all this, but they still get in touch with the heirs and try to harass them into paying the dead guy's bills. Nasty practice! Tell them he or she died, tell them you're happy to send them a copy of the death certificate, and then tell them to pound sand.
Question: What is a financial obligation to renting a home? I'm ready to rent a home, but I'm still new to this. The application to renting the home ask for a "financial obligation". What does that mean?
Answer: What bills do you have?
List student loan payments, credit card payments, etc.
They are trying to make sure you can afford the rent comfortably.
Question: Do you feel an obligation to spread your religious belief on others? Spreading the Word?
Do you feel you have an obligation to spread your religious belief system to others, or do you think religion is a private matter that everyone needs to decide for themselves?
Why or Why not?
Answer: Belief is a very private matter and can only come from within. Anything else is a violation of that person's freewill.
Question: How does becoming a flight surgeon effect service obligation time in the Navy? I am a USNA grad and going into medical school this year. I am trying to get more information about becoming a flight surgeon and want to know how it effects my service obligation. I know that my USNA time make me owe 5 years and my HPSP time I will owe an additional 4. Residency won't count, but does the training I receive to become a flight surgeon add to my service obligation? Thanks for your help.
Answer: I doubt seriously that anybody here can answer that question. I would strongly suggest you contact the Naval Medical Center Portsmouth,VA and see if they can route you to the proper contact.
Question: Do Canadian Employers have any obligation to provide safety training for offshore work in other countries? Hello, do Canadian employers who are sending their employees to work in various parts of the world have any obligation to provide safety training for offshore oil and gas work? Most companies require training such as BOSIET, HUET? However, there is no local government requirement for this training when working in various parts of the world.
Thanks
Answer: You answered your own question. Canadian law cannot apply to foreign soil. The bigger question is why would you work for a company that didn't provide safety training to maximize their employees efforts and boost their bottom line by doing so. An employer would be foolish not to.
Question: Does the family doctor in Canada have an obligation to inform the patients of their Positive HIV test results? In Canada, does the family doctor have an obligation to inform the patients of their HIV test results if the patients' test results are positive?
Answer: I would assume they have to, but the question is, why wouldn't they....they would have to have express written from the patient to perform the test in the first place (the laws are much stricter than any other lab tests). Therefore, if the patient requested the test (which they would have to), how or why would the physician NOT give them the results? Follow me?
Question: Who's obligation is that to care for the well being of livestock animals? Is that non-vegetarians' paramount obligation to care for the well being of livestock animals? If that is not happening, it should regard as collapse of today's society.
If they claim that livestock is created for non-vegetarians, why should the vegetarians desire for love, mercy and compassion for them?
If they feel they have rights to impose cruelty to animals as much as they can, but that is nothing to do with you. Why should you desire for love, mercy and compassion to these animals?
Please give your explanation logically.
Answer: Well ultimately the farmer but,
[] It's the consumer who decides which farmer. For example if you buy animal produce from the UK you are buying animal products with the highest level of animal welfare standards in the world. Unfortunately the same can not be said about imported animal products and that why buying British is paramount because as described in the answer above we all have more power and ability to make changes for the better.
[] It's the supermarkets and processors job to make sure that the farmer gets a fair price to improve welfare standards.
"Is that non-vegetarians' paramount obligation to care for the well being of livestock animals? If that is not happening, it should regard as collapse of today's society."
Animal welfare standards are always on the increase which shows the compassion of today's society. Unfortunately due to the internet the image of which has never been different. But, a lot of people taken in by these videos fail to realise that they are closer to a farm than the source of the video they have seen (most of which are not UK). All I say is why not go for a walk than base views on the internet.
"If they claim that livestock is created for non-vegetarians, why should the vegetarians desire for love, mercy and compassion for them?"
By eating the animals they are able to make sure that millions of animals live and if that's in the UK then that's a very good life. We live within a capitalist market, yes it's not perfect but, it does have good aspects. One good aspect is that it's able to provide for millions of animals and that's great. When I'm in the countryside I would rather see it full of animals any day.
"If they feel they have rights to impose cruelty to animals as much as they can, but that is nothing to do with you. Why should you desire for love, mercy and compassion to these animals?"
No one has the right to impose cruelty upon animals.
Question: What is the name of medical Obligation that a medical institute must provide medical attention to anyone? What is the name of medical Obligation that a medical institute must provide medical attention to anyone who seeks it.
for example: if a homeless person comes to a hospital, it is the obligation of the staff to provide him/her medical attention.
Answer: EMTALA, but I think it only applies to hospitals:
"The federal Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act, commonly referred to as "EMTALA," was enacted by Congress in response to a concern over "patient dumping" by hospitals refusing treatment of individuals who could not afford to pay for medical services. EMTALA imposes a duty on the hospital and its physicians to provide medical screening examinations and medical stabilization of all individuals seeking emergency care, regardless of the individual’s ability to pay. Under EMTALA, a patient cannot directly sue a physician for not complying with EMTALA’s requirements, but physicians may be subject to civil monetary penalties and may be subject to exclusion from participation in the Medicare and Medicaid programs for gross and flagrant or repeated violations of EMTALA."

Question: What is my obligation to deliver W-2's when the former employee has moved? I have 2 former employees who have apparently moved since they were in my employ at the beginning of 2007. Their W2's were returned by USPS marked "Attempted Not Known" and "No Such Number" (I have previously mailed to the latter address).
What is my obligation at this point to hunt these people down and deliver the W2's and can you point me to the documentation on this?
Thanks.
Answer: You attempted to deliver to the last know address. Keep the unopened (returned) envelopes (and contents if you opened them) in their personnel files. If they contact you send out another copy to their new addresses.
Question: what is the service obligation for the student loan repayment program in the army? I would like to use the new GI bill once i get out of the army but I have used the student loan program. Does it take all 4 years to meet that obligation or is it only the 3 years that they paid it in?
Answer: If you are currently in the military, wouldn't you qualify for the Post 9-11 benefits and the Yellow Ribbon program?
You are better off contacting your VA person to find out the particulars. Stick it out as long as possible because if you do get the 9-11 benefits your school is pretty much paid for. I understand they will give you a living allowance as well. Get some more details. That 4th year could make the difference between 60% of benefits and 100% benefits.
Question: What is the ethical obligation in this matter? Suppose you are a member of a team working on a computer-controlled crash avoidance system for automobiles. You think the system has a flaw that could endanger people. The project manager does not seem concerned and expects to announce completion of the project soon. Do you have an ethical obligation to do something?
Please help with any thoughts that you have on this scenario, thank you.
Answer: I think you have an ethical obligation to say something due to the fact that the problem could cause bodily injury. I would write up a concise memo explaining what you think the problem is and why (supporting your theory with facts, math, etc.) and submit it to the project manager and at least one other person if that's possible (a departmental manager perhaps). Make SURE you keep a copy. The powers that be may not do anything but you'll sleep better knowing you did the right thing. A memo or something in a file will come back to bite someone in the backside if there is indeed a fatal flaw in the system that isn't addressed.
Question: What is the service obligation incurred after completing SF training? After completing the Q course, how many years of service is incurred as an obligation? And also how many months do you have to have left in your original enlistment to be able to attend SFAS?
Answer: As far as I know, it doesn't change. However, if you are looking to apply...don't be too hopeful. Technically, you can apply to groups like Rangers, SF, and Delta Force, etc. However, accaptence is usually those who were invited...consider them an invitation only. If you are invited, or begin the Q course, this should all be answered for you. I will try and find out for u soon, we have some SF soldiers here.
Question: Can anyone explain in simple terms how a synthetic collateralized debt obligation works? Can anyone explain in simple terms how a synthetic collateralized debt obligation works? I get the basics but I'm having a hard time seeing how the whole thing works start to finish.
Answer: Collateralized debt obligations (CDOs) are a type of structured asset-backed security (ABS) whose value and payments are derived from a portfolio of fixed-income underlying assets. CDOs securities are split into different risk classes, or tranches, whereby "senior" tranches are considered the safest securities. Interest and principal payments are made in order of seniority, so that junior tranches offer higher coupon payments (and interest rates) or lower prices to compensate for additional default risk.
A few academics, analysts and investors such as Warren Buffett and the IMF's former chief economist Raghuram Rajan warned that CDOs, other ABSs and other derivatives spread risk and uncertainty about the value of the underlying assets more widely, rather than reduce risk through diversification. Following the onset of the 2007-2008 credit crunch, this view has gained substantial credibility. Credit rating agencies failed to adequately account for large risks (like a nationwide collapse of housing values) when rating CDOs and other ABSs.
Many CDOs are valued on a mark to market basis and thus have experienced substantial write-downs on the balance sheet as their market value has collapsed.

What Does Synthetic Collateralized Debt Obligation Mean?
A form of collateralized debt obligation (CDO) that invests in credit default swaps (CDSs) or other non-cash assets to gain exposure to a portfolio of fixed income assets. Synthetic CDOs are typically divided into credit tranches based on the level of credit risk assumed. Initial investments into the CDO are made by the lower tranches, while the senior tranches may not have to make an initial investment.
All tranches will receive periodic payments based on the cash flows from the credit default swaps. If a credit event occurs in the fixed income portfolio, the synthetic CDO and its investors become responsible for the losses, starting from the lowest rated tranches and working its way up.
Investopedia Says
Investopedia explains Synthetic Collateralized Debt Obligation
Synthetic CDOs are a modern advance in structured finance that can offer extremely high yields to investors. However, investors can be on the hook for much more than their initial investments if several credit events occur in the reference portfolio.
Synthetic CDOs were first created in the late 1990s as a way for large holders of commercial loans to protect their balance sheets without actually selling the loans and potentially harming client relationships. They have become increasingly popular because they tend to have shorter life spans than cash flow CDOs and there is no extended ramp-up period for earnings investment. Synthetic CDOs are also highly customizable between the underwriter and investors.

Synthetic CDO. A collateralized debt obligation (CDO) which, instead of being backed by assets such as bonds and loans like a standard CDO, it is backed by credit derivatives. These assets could include options and forward contracts.
