Medical Assistance Only
Form of public assistance administered by a State’s IV-A program, which provides benefits to recipients only in the form of medical, rather than financial, assistance.
Question: If a person lives with me that receives public assistance, foodstamps and medical care would I be able to claim If a person lives with me that receives public assistance, foodstamps and medical care only would I be able to claim them on federal income tax return as a dependant? They do not receive any cash I let them live with me rent free.
Answer: As long as they don't claim themselves. Your best bet is to have someone do your taxes and ask them. There are a lot of services out there at tax time and they don't cost that much. Make sure they stand by whatever they tell you so that, if you do claim them and get a red flag you aren't the one to "blame". Pretty sure if they don't claim themselves and no one else does, you can. Again be sure to check with a professional.
Question: Can a degree in Medical assistance lead to a job in dental assistance? I was wondering because the school my friend chose only has a 12 month diploma program for Dental assisting and she wants an Associate degree. Not a diploma. So i was thinking if she takes the medical assisting program that it would give her the degree she wants plus it could possibly lead to a job in dental assisting. Does that make sense? Plus it could give her more options because of the wide variety of medical things she'll be studying where as dental assisting is just one thing.
Answer: Its her dental assisting education that will get her a job dental assisting. The medical assisting will not matter at all.; there is really nothing (except front office skills) that you learn in MA school that transfers over to dental assisting. If she doesn't know what she wants to do; it is a rather time consuming & expensive way to go (going through both programs); but possible
Question: Where can my fiancee get financial assistance for medical bills? This past weekend, the daughter of my fiancee fell very ill and has been hospitalized. When she is released from the hospital in about three days, we expect the bills to exceed $10,000.00. My fiancee has no medical insurance (she can't afford it), and doesn't make much money to begin with.
Are there any charitable organizations, or government agencies that she can go to for financial assistance? I fear the wieght of the medical debt will be crushing to her, and I can only help so much myself. We currently live in Chicago.
Answer: The hospital itself should have a financial assistance form that she could fill out.
She will probably have to wait until the actual bill is received and then take the bill to the hospital billing office and ask them for the forms. Fill them out and turn them in. But, you could stop in the office and ask about it beforehand to find out for sure.
Also, she could try applying for Medicaid. They usually cover bills back 3 months from the date of application. She may be elgible for some sort of medical even if not the 100% medical.
To apply for that she needs to go to the Department of Human Services office.
Good Luck!
Hope the daughter has a quick recovery!

Question: Where would I find scholarships/tuition assistance/replacement programs for Medical School? For example, I know that there is a program that pays most if not all of a person's medical school tuition if they agree to practice in an underpriveliged area for a few years after medical school. I am very interested in that. There are also other programs that I have only heard about, that will offer grants, loans, and other assistance to medical students.
One of my professors told me that there are numerous tuition assistance and scholarship programs available for med students that no one ever hears about. I'm sure she's right. Although, details tend to be sketchy, and I hear that these programs don't exactly advertise much or get the word out. You have to find them on your own.
Any information would be much appreciated. Thank you!
Answer: National Health Service Corps is what you heard about; however, they've had trouble with funding in recent years so investigate them fully.
Also check with your school's FA and admissions offices as well as your undergrad premed adviser.
Question: Help for Medical Assistance of Mental Health? I'm from Rajasthan, India, having only child of 6 years. He is mentally retarded since birth. I consulted all the doctors/specialist of Metal Health, not only in my area of Rajsthan, but in capital of India, Delhi. But unfortunately I could not find the right doctor who can help me on this issue. If someone help me or refer me to the right doctor who can cure my child, I would be really thankful to the concern.
Answer: Mental retardation is generally not a treatable condition. It simply means that on a standardized test of intelligence and adaptive functioning your son is in the lowest 2 percentile. Unless there is a medical cause associated with this performance it is generally not treatable. Your child can be helped to adapt better, but that would be an educational issue and a rehabilitation issue, not a medical or mental health treatment issue. It may be helpful for you to have someone to talk with about your feelings about your son, however. I wish you and your son all the best.
Question: I applied for medical assistance health insurance roughly 2-3 weeks ago. i called about the status on my app..? I called about the status on my medical assistance application today. they informed me that it takes 10 weeks.. does anyone know why it takes that long? also im pregnant and have been turned down through a different county due to the fact i didnt hand in all the proofs i need. is it right to turn down someone who is expecting? to make things more stressfull im 34 weeks pregnant and expecting my girl to to come in the second week of july.. what am i going to do? you would think they would speed up the process for pregnant women... also my work doesnt offer me medical because im only part time..
Answer: Because it's government workers! You can't expect the same level of service you get from the private sector.
Yes, they can turn down someone pregnant, if you didn't follow the "rules" - provide all the proofs they ask for.
Um, you've been pregnant for 34 weeks. You've had, what, over six months to work on this.
You're going to birth a baby, and worry about how to pay for it afterwards. Sorry. Women have been giving birth for thousands of years, without any insurance. Heck, there are 27 countries in the world, who do birth BETTER than the USA - and they don't use hospitals, for the most part. Hospital births have really only been popular the past 70 years or so.
Question: Federal medical assistance and marriage? I'm currently recieving medical insurance from welfare. I'm a teen with low income. will my eligibility chnge if I get married? My partner has low income as well, we are from PA. When I ask at the office they have the same excuse for everything- gotta put it in the computer and see. Since Im very I'll most of the time Im afraid to lose my only source of support, Im just afraid to risk it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Answer: http://www.dpw.state.pa.us/servicesprogr…
They do know. And all state websites list the maximum allowable income you can have to qualify for individual programs. If the above link doesn't help then double what you have now or increase the amount to almost double. Applying for assistance as a non-married couple living together would be your best bet. You can keep things separate and not lose what you receive now.

Question: how does the bill effect the unemployed that cant get medical insurance let alone barley afford to eat? are they going to fined for not having insurance and will they be rejected when they have to go to the emergency room because the emergency room is the only way a person unemployed can get medical assistance?
Answer: Once it passes, they'll be fined if they don't carry health insurance.
The ER is NOT the only way an unemployed person can get medical assistance, btw. They can go to an urgent care center or doctor, for a fraction of the cost.

Question: Medical question: Only answer if you have medical experience please? I had a ct of the abdomen & pelvis, and here it what it mainly showed:
fatty liver
liver lesion
adrenal adenoma 1.4 x 2.0 cm
swollen lymph node in peri-rectal area
Which would you consider the most serious, and what do you think the next plan of care would be?
Thank you for your assistance
Robin
Answer: Sounds like Cushings syndrome.
Do you take meds for asthma?..or arthritis? hormones?
I would look into the meds you currently take first and take that to your MD, to see if there is other options. As meds can affect what is there.
I would not take any of these more serious than the other either. Was there a biopsy done on the lesion? That can mean a couple different things. But with the swollen lymph node present as well these are all issues that can not be answered by the CT alone.
For the guy above...CT= computed tomography. (basically an x-ray) I wish you luck finding this.
Was a lab tech assistant for 3 yrs...in pathology dept (i am not an md or nurse but familiar with these tests and the biopsy procedures as well as diagnosis)
Question: Medical Assistance when there is a bankruptcy filing underway? I'm looking for answers from those within the legal/medical community.
My husband owned a business for several years. When he became seriously ill, the company took on significant debt. Eventually, he regained much of his health, but his company still went out of business. He met with several financial advisors and lawyers, and they came to the conclusion that filing for bankruptcy was the only thing he could do.
He has another job now, which is a Godsend, though it pays him half what he made when he owned his company. The unfortunate thing is, it offers no health insurance. Neither does my job. I applied for a state run health assistance program, but realized that to finish the application you need a copy of your most recent taxes. Because my husband is still in the filing process, we didn't file 2008 taxes.
He's not dying anymore, but his immune system is still recovering from his illness and he gets sick a lot. Our medical bills are threatening to drown us in debt, and I am wondering if there is any program that offers help for people in our situation?
Answer: Nobody is going to do anything until you file the missing tax return.
Question: What medical assistance program might i qualify for? Im turning 21 years old in 11 days and i need some kind of financial assistance program i might qualify for to help pay some medical expenses. I really need to get two cat scan exams done and my appointment is coming up real soon. Its very expensive and unfortunatley i am not financially stable. i cant save up that amount of money in so little time with a part time temp job. Answer: what state do u live in ?
Question: how can i get medical assistance for my daughter, thru the state, without reporting my b/f income? my daughter came to live with us, last year, and i was pregnant, so i was able to get medical assistance for myself, and her, with out reporting my b/f income becuz he's usually only home on the weekends, as he on the road during the week. well after i had baby, i had to start reporting my b/f income, and it disqualified myself and my daughter. our son is still eligible tho. but my daughter isn't. what can i do? she's only 11yrs old,
my b/f is not her father, i'm not trying nor do i want to, fraud ne one, i'm an honest person. BUT what i was sayin b 4 is that when i was PG, the state KNEW my b/f was in the household but i just didnt need to report his income UNTIL after the baby was born THEN, i was told i needed to, but then his income put us over the limit. i didnt intentionally not report his income, my case worker had me fill out some form stating that he was in the household but his income was nt needed. if i got a job, it would only be minimum wage, and i'd also have to find daycare, and pay for two kids, so i dont see the point in me getting a job. why pay someone else to watch my kids when i can do it. i was just wondering since he's not her father, do i really need to use his income for her to be eligable or not. her real dad terminated his parental rights last summer so child support isnt an option either.
Answer: is your daughter his child.if not that really should not matter how much he makes..you can also try hospitals and see if they have a sliding fee scale for low income family's, try children and family services and see if you can get low cost ins there and sometime the schools have a low cost ins programs
Question: Having a problem with medical assistance/claims getting paid? I am currently on medical assistance for my pregnancy and have an on-going battle with medical assistance and the insurance provider paying some claims. I talked to the doctor's office and they said to call my case worker...which I did and didn't get very far. (She is a total b*tch every time I talk to her, which is not often and it really upsets me, anyways...) After denying she ever talked to me about this before and claiming she never received any fax from me, she pulls me up on the computer and realized I did in fact fax her a letter proving end of coverage from my employer so she says there's nothing else she can do...she did her part so now she's not involved. She suggested I call the welfare help-line but it's closed until tomorrow morning so I'm SOL right now. I was told they (the insurance company) only have 6 months from the date of service to get claims paid and I'm finding out months after service they aren't paid yet, which is shortening my time line on trying to get this done. I am due in 2 weeks and know after having a baby this is is the last thing I want to worry about, even though if I don't I will get stuck with the bills. This is happening with every single doctor, hospital affiliate and pharmacy I go to so who knows how many bills I will get in the future. How can I get this resolved in a timely matter?
I know this isn't exactly a pregnancy question, but it wouldn't work anywhere else and figured maybe someone else has been in my situation?
Answer: I used to work in the benefits field, so trust me, you're not the only one who is going through this...I would say the only thing you can do is call that line tomorrow morning as soon as they open. Be EXTREMELY nice to the person who answers the phone as they have the power to help you or not. Trust me I know that can be hard but do your best. Also, relax. No matter what happens, you're still going to have your baby and you're going to get care, they can't deny you that. You say you faxed the HIPAA letter to the case worker, did she pass it on? Is it at all possible to get a different case worker to look at your issue? These are just ideas. Dealing with medical bills is seriously about the most stressful thing ever so I know it's tough to keep perspective, but do your best. Good luck! And congratulations on the baby!
