Question: What tribe of American Indians were the worst hunters? I have it on good authority that the Nez Perce tribe were the worst hunters, what say you?
Answer: digger indians...as far as I know they mostly ate roots and snakes at least according to Jedidiah Smith he thought they were bad hunters ..
Disclaimer: Even the Sioux or Dakota as Francis Parkman referred to them had elements to their tribe that were bad hunters (ie) one group goes to follow the buffalo the other group is lazy and decides they will go later but when they do they cant find any and end up starving eating ground up wild cherries and animal fat for food.......so it all depends..also Parkman said when they couldn't find the buffalo (the susuccessful indians ) One of the old chieftains picks up a large black prairie cricket and asked it where the buffalo were....the cricket sticks out it's leg and the chief puts it down and says we go this way.......Parkman when they find the buffalo doesnt know what to think but cant imagine it was anything other than coincidence
Question: An extinct tribe that killed babies because not enough resources. Can anybody name it? I remember a true story from high school sociology that talked about a certain tribe and how they need to kill off babies (male or female I do not remember) because of scarce resources. Eventually christian missionaries showed up to the scene and told them that killing babies was wrong, which led the tribe to extinction (because they did not have enough resources to support all of the extra population).
Does this sound familiar to anybody? Anybody know the name of the tribe or have a link to some information? I would love to have this for a upcoming discussion. Thanks!
Answer: I can not remember for the life of me, I do remember going over this too.

Question: What is the easiest native American tribe to get a long with? A tribe that you dont hear preaching all the time, complaining about this and that. A tribe that whenever you visit them or see them they always seem genuine. My personal guess would be the Inuit but i could be wrong.
Answer: Go to the Pine Ridge, Cheyenne River or San Carlos reservations and you'll see that some tribes have A LOT to complain about. Conditions in those places is appalling.
-Unemployment around 50-75%
-Youth sucide rates 3-5 times the nation average
-Mentall illness, drug addiction and alcoholism rampant
-Average yearly income 1/2 the national average.
If this were happening in Chicago, Detroit or Los Angeles there would be rallies with celebrities, members of congress, the president and first lady, and ethnic associations like NAACP and La Raza. BUT, because it happens on Native lands...most people never hear about it. And when they do, they dismiss it as "preaching" and "whining."
That being said, most natives are just trying to make their way in life...just like you.
Question: What native american tribe is the biggest in California? I am adopted and my birthmom said that I am part native american - but she said i am from the biggest (most popular) tribe. She didn't say which one since i am part - 5% but still it is really cool.
Answer: I would be very careful in accepting what is said, without it being clarified by actual records.
For one thing.. NO ONE is 5% anything. The math does not work that way in genealogy. You are 50% of each parent. 25% of each grandparent. 12.5 % of each gr grandparent. 6.25% of any gr gr grandparent.
it works like that simply because all ancestry is in factors of 1/2 from each parent but each parent is then defined by 1/2 of THEIR parents (and on back).
Using the figure you gave, is a big indicator that this is info "passed down" but not verified by any records. Not saying you don't have NA background.. but genealogists know how critical it is that anything is documented. You would need the name of the exact ancestor, and a record to connect him/her to a specific tribe.

Question: How do I get the Tribe Chieftain to get a Didgeridoo in Spore? One of the tribe members already has a Didgeridoo, but every time I go to the Brown Village, they say I need the Chieftain to come with to conduct the band, so I get him, and they're both there, but he doesn't have an instrument, so I bring him back, and he refuses and holds up his staff. I have gone through this like 10 times. Help?
Answer: The Cheiftan can't hold anything but his staff. It is ok that he won't have an instrument, he will conduct the rest of the "band"
Question: Which Native American tribe should I pick when it comes to their relationship with the white settlers? The topic that I've chosen in history is about how the white settlers affected the native Americans' life negatively. What tribe should I pick in this case?
Answer: try the comanche, or the sioux
Question: How was the Lakota tribe affected by the encroachment of white settlers? How did the white settlers affect their lifestyle, culture, demographics etc. and also who were some famous Lakota tribe members? This is for a research paper, and I am supposed to answer a bunch of questions about the Lakota tribe in my paper. These two questions are the only two out of seven questions that I could not find so any help would be greatly appreciated.
Answer: Hugely and negatively, I suggest lots of research on this one. Europeans slaughtering their food, the buffalo,
cutting down their trees and forests,
the gun affecting hunting methods,
the re-introduction of the horse affecting distances travelled/hunting etc,
the introduction of the pig encouraging pastoralism,
the mining and forced removal of lands,
decimation of holy grounds,
being pushed out,
being forced to adopt Christianity
being forced to be like the whiteman in language, dress, actions, etc
forced boarding schools,
the diseases,
the neagtive effects of forced poverty and from the introduction of drugs and alcohol, etc.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lakota_peop… has a list of famous tribal members and general info.

Question: What tribe of Israel do the Falashas who are a tribe of black Jews are they from? I heard they claim to be descendants of a tribe of Israel. which tribe is it?
Answer: Beta Israel (the polite term for Falasha) traditions claim that the Ethiopian Jews are descended from the lineage of Moses himself, some of whose children and relatives are said to have separated from the other Children of Israel after the Exodus and gone southwards, or, alternatively or together with this, that they are descended from the tribe of Dan, which fled southwards down the Arabian coastal lands from Judaea at the time of the breakup of the united Kingdom of Israel into two kingdoms in the 10th century BCE (precipitated by the oppressive demands of Rehoboam, King Solomon's heir), or at the time of the destruction of the northern Kingdom of Israel in the 8th century BCE. (first link)
--------
The Falasha call themselves House of Israel (Beta Israel) and claim descent from Menilek I, traditionally the son of the Queen of Sheba (Makeda) and King Solomon. (second link)
Question: What is a good movie that depicts a tribe of native people? I need to watch a movie that focuses on one tribe and how they operate. Any suggestion?
Answer: Hi Chick,
One of my personal favorites is "Dances with Wolves." To check out many other choices click on the link below. Regards.
PS: Of course any theatrical film, or documentary for that matter, will constitute a "depiction" with a slant, intended or otherwise, by the film maker. Then again that's also true of films focusing on white, middle-class mid-westerners. Indeed, all art presents a point of view that isn't precisely representative of the whole of a culture. That's called "artistic license." If all you want is factual precision I recommend anthropological monographs and analysis. For film depictions, which is after all what you asked about, forget about political correctness and take a look at the site I linked for some excellent choices.
Question: What was the tribe of Argentine people who lived naked in the snow? I read about a tribe of people who lived on the east coast of Argentina (I think) The area had the same weather as Boston. They lived without clothes or shelter. I think they ate mostly fish. Then they had some contact with the Christians, who clothed them and taught them to build shelters. They then got sick and got all kinds of skin diseases. They isolated themselves but went back and forth between the new and old ways with varying success. At the height of this culture there were about 40,000 of these unique people. I can't find the reference to them.
Answer: You should be sure of the area, otherwise you could be leading fellow users on a wild-goose chase. It's possible that some parts of Argentina are/were very cold , considering the close land relation to Antarctica.
You might be thinking of west Argentina, where the Andes are. This website here is full of early Andean civilizations. So if you start here you might find your answer. Good Luck

Question: Why have a tribe of orcs decided to establish a migratory camp in my front yard? A tribe of about 14 orcs have established what I hope is a temporary camp in my front yard. They are armed with spears and slings and such. Everytime I try to go out to get my mail the orcs attack me and I am forced to run back into the house screaming like a little girl in a high pitched tone. It isn't fair. Why did they choose my front yard? There's lots of houses around here. I feel scared.
Answer: If your house didn't have that tower with a giant eye on top, you wouldn't have this problem...
Question: How do I enroll in my federally recognized native tribe? I'm pretty new to this and have been talking with my brother and would like to know how to enroll in my tribe and be federally recognized. I'm not completely sure but I know im at least a 16th cherokee if not more. I would also like to say as a side note to any native americans reading this that I mean no offense; I'm not trying to reap any benefits that I hear are little to none anyway. My grandmother just passed and I'm digging deeper about my roots. Thanks for your help guys.
Answer: bring documents, birth records, death records, marriage certificates, whatever you have showing you are related to an enrolled member of the cherokee tribal enrollment office and then they will look things over and decide if you meet the requirements. make sure you know which cherokee nation..eastern band in north carolina, or the cherokee nation or keetowah cherokee in oklahoma. those 3 are the only real cherokee nations.
Question: What is the difference between an ethnic minority, a tribe and an indigenous people? What is the difference between an ethnic minority, a tribe and an indigenous people?
Answer: A tribe is a small group of people, generally related at a kinship level that work together for the whole. Leadership is often based on the rule of the elders. A tribe is often part of a group of indigenous people who were the original inhabitants of a land and if that group of people is less in numbers than a group of who migrated from elsewhere and are racially different they become a ethnic minoritiy.
Hence, you can have a tribe of Australian aboriginies who are the indigenous people of Australia however they are an ethnic minority when compared to white Australians whose forefathers migrated from Europe.

Question: What's the difference between the games My Tribe and Virtual Villagers? I enjoy playing around on online flash game sites, and have seen a lot of ads for these two games. From the ads, they look very similar, so I am just wondering what the difference is between the game My Tribe, and the game Virtual Villagers. In your opinion, which is better?
Answer: My tribe has much cleaner graphics that are a little more cartoon looking, and the islands as well.
As far as game play the My tribe actually allows you to leave the island/ new challenges and truly customise your tribespeople.
I've played both and love My Tribe.
Question: What native american tribe should I use for my book? I'm considering the tribes: Lakato or Cheyenne. Were either or these tribes allies of the white settlers? Or were they enemies? Were they enemies or allies of each other? What were some of their traditions? Language? What about the attitude of each tribe compared to the other? Was one harsher? Please add any additional information! Thank you so much!
I spelled lakota wrong... I know I was rushing!
Answer: You need to do in-depth studying of each tribe, which will involve reading lots of books on them, making trips to their reservations, etc. A few random pieces of info posted on here is not significant enough to create a historically accurate story for your book. Even if your book is fictional, it should be historically accurate regarding real people or places you include. To obtain that accuracy requires months of reading and studying everything you can find on the subject. A good book is not accomplished without prior intensive research.
